I wonder what would have happened if Urban had picked us over Florida when we ended up with Weis. Maybe it was just never in the cards because of the "character" guys he wanted to recruit. But it's a pretty interesting thought to me.

I think he would have tried to recruit the same type of players. Most of them would have been weeded out by admissions though.

I remember hearing that rumor a while ago when he left. I'm hoping for something better, like he had a dime a day coke habit that shredded his heart, and was on the lam hiding from Cuban drug lords who he owes millions to.

Sorry guys, I've been at work all day. Here is the true story, but I will setup a little backstory.

My brother is a lifelong Gator fan, and recently had the ability to move to Gainesville for a job. His wife is a surgical nurse at one of the most respected hospitals in Gainesville, and she is highly accomplished at what she does.
Her boss is not only the head of their medical department, he also happens to be on the Board of Directors for the UF Athletics Program.
He also just happened to be one of the first responders to Urbie the night of the supposed "heart attack" incident.
The way he tells the story, is when he and his group responded it was immediately clear that there was no health issues of that nature. Instead, what they found was Urbie and a WHOLE LOT of drugs(cocaine mostly.) Apparently this was a long-term issue that Florida had known of for a while.
Due to this incident, and what had previously happened with Spurrier and Zook, UF did everything they could to save face by allowing Urbie to step down instead of being fired and all of this leaking out. This is also why they went with an incredibly safe hire in Muschump, someone who has never had any kind of disciplinary issues, instead of a really big name that could backfire again.

I know a lot of you won't believe this because it can honestly sound a little far fetched, but my source is very reliable and I personally wouldn't put this out there without being comfortable over it.

If you google "urban meyer cocaine," the only thing that comes up is stuff about players. I have a hard time believing that a true story like this wouldn't have been leaked on the internet prior to 3-4 years after the fact.

Was totally joking when I made that comment about coke. Agree something like that probably would have been leaked by now if true, but hey, anything's possible. Thanks for sharing.

I thought after the supposed hear attack incident (cocaine or not cocaine) didn't Urban come back for another year? If I recall he was set to resign after the 2009 Sugar Bowl but then did a "I changed my mind" and came back for the 2010 season before resigning for good after the Gator Bowl.

Wasn't the whole heart attack incident after the 2009 SEC Championship? If it was cocaine then why did UF let him change his mind? Is there a second heart attack/health incident that I am forgetting?

Kind of weird that someone of the doctor's stature would convey this information to a newly hired nurse.

Well it is illegal to disclose that kind of information unless the nurse was treating the patient. Then of course it is definitely illegal for the nurse to disclose that information to anyone with the exception of another hospital staff member and only if that staff member needed that information to do their job.

I worked as a medical billing assistant for 7 years after I graduated from high school. I quit that job to because I had to do a physical therapy internship. I am in my last semester of PT school and I've done 3 internships so far and started a 4th. So I know a little about HIPPA laws, the disclosure of that information is totally illegal.

I don't buy the "Urban was a coke whore" story. A lot of holes in there.

Buuuuuttttt....it is fun to imagine urbie as this:

th

Him banging the chick (supposedly a coed, or one not far removed from it) and getting busted by his wife and given the ultimatum is the likelier story.

This was my first thought as well.
