USC doesn't make the throw that Watts picked unless we send the house on that play though. He just had to get rid of it.Sending the house and leaving his corners on islands before halftime and when they’re up 14 in the 4th made zero sense.
He did this against Louisville late in the game too. It’s dumb.
Credit to Maiava too, his ball placement was pretty great on some throws where he was getting lit upThe height of the USC receivers was evident on all the jump balls and the QB did a nice job with ball placement. When he was under pressure, then he certainly made mistakes but indeed the rush was not getting home consistently.
Exactly this. The fact that we’re so far down the depth chart and still productive is insane.Sometimes the hero lives long enough to become the villain... lots of guys playing who were considered 3rd string to start the year.
All of their offense was heaving 50/50 balls and they got the ultimate roll where this particular game they caught at 75/25 clip. And still lost and never led. It is what air raid is and that’s what it looks like when it works and they lost. It’s why the Pirate (rip) never sniffed a conference title or playoff. It’s a gimmick offense. It is what you do to make wazu or cowbell competitive like the academies with option and also why leonard Moore looked better than gray because he has more length and hops. It’s a one off that don’t mean shit. And pathetic that a brand like USC thinks they have to run gimmick O to competeWell yeah because he leaves them 1v1 on the outside… USC is the first team to be like “you know, I think our WRs are good enough to come down with at least half of these jump balls.” And Golden kept blitzing and not getting home.
❤️The 85 Bears left their corners on islands all game. That's why you remember Hampton, Dent, McMichael, Perry, Singletary, Marshall, Wilson, and, if a Notre Dame fan, Duerson (and his sidekick Fencik), but you don't remember the corners so much (because they, Richardson, especially, and Frazier had to take the abuse.) Well, they were damm good too --- just like all of our guys. They were just going to get beat some, and there was one game where they got beat several times. (Marino ending the winning streak.) But this was the best defense in NFL history by most assessments. Golden has a system which works almost all the time. It even worked against Northern for that matter. Sometimes it not only works, but it OVERTLY wins you the game.
I'll take our defense over anyone else's. And I bet that in their time, that DBack unit (including Morrison in the surmise) puts 5 or 6 guys into the NFL, maybe more. Corners get beat some. Sometimes the opponent is three-inch-lucky where the ball comes down and grabs the 50/50. And sometimes we go 100 yards with the pick. We need more QB pressure. Our DBacks are just fine. Not everyone's Revis or that egotist Sanders who you just mysteriously could not beat.
Just have to keep outscoring teams, I guess. Burrow is having an unbelievable season.Does anyone else watch the heinous bengals defense every week and think “please stay away”? Sorry if this has been posted during their multiple other heinous weeks.
I can't fully decode this. What do we want to stay away? And why is it related to Golden, other than he was a position coach for them a few years ago? I'm not plugged into the NFL...Does anyone else watch the heinous bengals defense every week and think “please stay away”? Sorry if this has been posted during their multiple other heinous weeks.
No and no.Does anyone else watch the heinous bengals defense every week and think “please stay away”? Sorry if this has been posted during their multiple other heinous weeks.
There has always kinda been an underlying sense here in the Cinci area that once Lou Anaruma moved on from the Bengals that Al would be his replacement.I can't fully decode this. Is he a candidate for a potential vacancy there?
All of this is predicated on Zac Taylor staying. There seems to be potential that he's gone after this season if they don't make the playoffs. There has always kinda been an underlying sense here in the Cinci area that once Lou Anaruma moved on from the Bengals that Al would be his replacement.
The expectation always was that Lou would get a head coach job and that would open the door for Al. I think what the poster is saying is that now the expectation is Lou will be fired if the defense doesn't improve opening the door for Al.
Agree completely. I also think that the farther away we get from the Super Bowl team the more the people in Cinci forget about Al Golden. All of this is predicated on Zac Taylor staying. There seems to be potential that he's gone after this season if they don't make the playoffs.
Not terribly worried about it either way. If Taylor stays, he's going to be on the hot seat. Not exactly a stable situation. If Taylor gets fired, probably a slim chance his replacement hires Al Golden to be DC.
Anarumo is one of the longest tenured NFL DC. He makes about $1.5M a year. It's been three seasons since Golden was the LB coach there.Agree completely. I also think that the farther away we get from the Super Bowl team the more the people in Cinci forget about Al Golden.
Also, if you're Golden, do you want to attach yourself to a head coach who may be in a win or lose your job season? He could very well prefer the job security that he has at Notre Dame.Anarumo is one of the longest tenured NFL DC. He makes about $1.5M a year. Zac Taylor might need a fresh set of eyes and philosophy has his next DC if his job is on the line. He might want to reach a bit further than an apple that was already on the tree.
Nothing against Al Golden and I'm not doing mental gymnastics here convincing myself Golden isn't going to leave, but ZT will have a big sense of urgency and would probably want an NFL guy in there who can turn the ship around.
I have always thought the idea of Al going back to Cinci is far-fetched.Anarumo is one of the longest tenured NFL DC. He makes about $1.5M a year. It's been three seasons since Golden was the LB coach there.

My initial post on this subject was simply to give VPD an answer to what Floribama was insinuating.
I think worrying about assistant coaches leaving in an industry where assistant coaches are prone to leaving isn't a good way to navigate football fandom when things are going well.I have always thought the idea of Al going back to Cinci is far-fetched.
