Far be it from me to tell teams how to recruit especially in modern times with less state loyalty than ever and ease of transportation, communication, etc. but it does strike me as odd to be recruiting the northeast heavily as a southern school with such high end football players readily available in the south.

Its a bit like Scheffler says, a win (in this case landing a good recruit) feels good for about 2 minutes. Then its on to the next.

Generally true, but QBs are the big exception. They linger as a hopeful feeling for years.

There’s a strange paradox in recruiting, fans often undervalue the no-drama, elite prospects who commit early and quietly. Meanwhile, the longer a kid drags things out, the more coveted he becomes. Scarcity creates desire. Mystery creates buzz. It’s why CJ Carr might be better than Dante Moore, but Dante had the spotlight. The chase makes the commitment feel bigger. I like ND kids, and Freeman took the RKG idea and expanded it to include kids that are championship caliber in a hurry.

There are types of dragging it out that gross me out and turn me off to a recruit

I saw someone recently do a 4 hat game thing in the Year of Our Lord 2025 and I physically cringed. You're signing literal contracts and being compensated and you can't even fake a veneer of maturity.

My most old head take is that the more someone is interested in the "process" the more likely they were to bust. Remember this shit?



Same thing with Peyton Bowen a couple years ago... supremely talented prospect but if you are getting hoodwinked and manipulated like that you've got some red flags.

Different circumstances but it's similar to those kids on Last Chance U who would talk about how they're going to make the NFL after being dumped by low level SEC West schools. Brother, you couldn't login to your online basket weaving course and show up late to practices when you're being filmed. You think NFL teams are going to put up with your shit when their rosters are full of athletic freaks like Christian Mccaffrey showing up at 5 AM to study film?

Bowen is easily one of the scummiest flips I can recall.

Dude legit gaslit the coaches and his fellow commits and then did a hat selection announcement while still committed to ND. Seriously, how can that be seen as anything but disrespectful?

I can't say I didn't feel a bit of schadenfreude of him not panning out at OU.
