Agree it's probably a combination of different factors as you suggest.

But this premise that it all boils down to him taking upfront money or his parents getting a job--especially as that all remains to be unsubstantiated--is the bad/lazy take here.

Ultimately, it's Freeman and the staffs job to fight through the objections. And if they can't--then it's also their fault for making a tactical error and squandering how many untold hours and $$$ on a kid that was never going to come here. Just like they did Meadows.

It's a results-based business model. And "trying really hard/best" isn't a result.

Produce on the field and on the recruiting trail or move on. The field production currently isn't there and I'm not sure exactly what's been going on over there since mid-June, but the recruiting momentum/production has been Willingham grade.
I have a friend here who is an Auburn grad……also has a substantial practice in NIL contracts so what I conveyed is more than a rumor and is substantiated that’s why I alluded to the fact it was more than rumor. I don’t have specific details but I did get some generalities. The ND staff wanted Deuce to bet on himself to succeed thus achieve his goals. If a player doesn’t want to bet on himself, why would they want to bet on him? Sometimes situations at the beginning develop into something unexpected down the road. Based on my experience, this happens quite often. There is now adversity for the staff, let’s see how they respond to it.

I have no idea if it is even true... but part of the allure of having his parents offered jobs is that presumably it would entail them moving to Auburn as well.

For a kid that transferred from Tennessee back to Mississippi after one game because he was feeling homesick, that has to have significant appeal. We tend to villainize the parents as being all about the bag, but it could also be something as wholesome as wanting to be able to look after their son.

This is my understanding as well.

From Loy:

“.and I've never felt like Deuce lied to me once.

He's been upfront about everything. We have a great relationship. He's also been great about me reporting everything each step of the way.”

So he was more honest with some reporter than the coaches he talked to every day? Screw this kid.

Agree it's "solid" but not on the level Auburn is currently amassing. Plus a vision needs to be created for a recruit--and pulling the #1 WR in last year's class coupled with their outpacing us in this class creates that for him.

We can't just roll out "Hey, we got this walk-on lacrosse player and this other guy that caught 50% of his TDs against Navy you could play with in a few years."

The pitch needs to be much more impactful and much more recent.

Unlike most--you seem to be pretty discerning about ND's talent/recruiting in relation to the power programs, so not sure why you're not picking up on this obvious phenomenon going on with Knight more.

Were ND coaches to have delivered the goods and lived up to their promises, the doors wouldn't be open for schools like Auburn to enter.

To pin it all on Knight merely taking upfront money is lazy and childish and once again ingrained "Freeman can do no wrong" "Its just that pesky NIL" "His uncle is making him do it" "Haha, Auburn hasn't even won a NC since 2013" barfing stream of consciousness copes that has been going on around here since the beginning of August.

Not sure why everyone can't just take a major recruiting loss without feeling the need to whine about the recruit. Instead focus the blame on the coaching staff who's at ultimate fault for the failure.

Also, while Carr is certainly a nice, polished, player--his physical upside is somewhat limited from here. He would be superb distributing the ball to OSU or Texas type WR rooms. But given ND's WR rooms will always be mostly physically challenged compared to the elite programs (especially based upon the early returns on Brown) ND would otherwise need a supremely physically gifted QB like Knight to fill that void were they to go up against an elite defense. Think Vince Young against USC.

Carr will be sufficient to great against 99% of opponents but will never be able to bridge that gap.

To put it succinctly--giving consideration to NDs typical mid to above average WRs--ND has the potential to win a national championship with Knight. But ND cannot win a national championship with Carr.

You know this to be true as well.
"We can't just roll out "Hey, we got this walk-on lacrosse player and this other guy that caught 50% of his TDs against Navy you could play with in a few years."

Are we talking ND Football? I mean that quote speaks volumes! Literally under no circumstances should that be the case at this University. It's as alarming as the WR recruiting currently.

You should know better than taking anything National Bootlicker says without a big grain of salt. He has no program connections so all he can be is a mouthpiece

Certainly, good players both but one only need compare/contrast how respective fans would trumpet the "accomplishment"

OSU fans: Okay, we got Cam Williams. But who's this Gilbert dude? And where's the other two top 100 WRs in the class? And why don't we any verbal from a 5 star yet in the next class

Our fans: OMG OMG OMG!! You guys we got like one top 50 WR recruit for the first time in five years and also like this totally awesome fringe top 150 WR recruit too! We can definitely win a natty now! And also just take the next recruiting cycle off! We've made The Big Time!!

Auburn boosters as a group have decided to go all in on NIL and are willing to spend whatever it takes. The Yella Wood guy is willing to throw the cash around right now. It's like they saw that Buckeye rumor from the other day and saw that as a standard they could attain.

When Loy starts publicly blowing the kid and his family, you know it's over.

Not gonna lie, I wish we did that. Whether it is via recruiting or getting players like Caleb Downs from the portal.

Freeman has had some hits. He’s had some misses. His early classes have been nice, but this one has seen some faltering. I have an odd feeling he’s plotting a quicker exit than a longer stay. The burnout is what they get paid for as coaches, but the world of recruiting is so up and down. There are a lot more chips in on this year than most others. If we have a deep playoff run or more this season, he’ll get more looks from bigger programs. He’s not unintelligent. He has to know that a loss of Deuce is bad. Not the end of the world, but not easily overlooked. Overall, his contingencies have not been nearly as strong this recruiting cycle, which could potentially suggest other underlying factors. The coaching staff being lazy has not been the modus operandi. Why rest on their laurels now?

No clue why he even committed so early in the first place.
Wasn’t the Duece the quarter story? Flip a coin, heads you commit, tails you don’t… and if it lands on tails and you feel bad then that’s where you are supposed to be? I think it was tails and he felt bad… so he committed but realizing now he can flip $100 bills somewhere else apparently and he doesn’t need to care where or how it lands…

We always hit up The Chief in Granger. They used to have a Kilwins at the Eddy St Commons across from campus. Never been to the new spot.
Vanilla Bean over on Gumwood is great. I haven't had anything from the new spot at Eddy St yet but Ive met the owner a few times now. Their son was a walk on for Notre Dame

I grew up in Goshen. Always looked forward to our trips to The Chief. My Dad got me hooked on Black Raspberry and the rest is history. I had no clue that they had a Granger location.

Its on the east side of Granger, so it's technically Elkhart:)
