But does Kelly go 8-4?

If the narrative is Freeman is a better recruiter, fine. #9 is still #9. If the narrative is recruiting ratings score is higher, fine. But #9 is still #9. I think the question we need to ask if this recruiting class was the ceiling or the floor or something in between.

I think Freeman was getting the benefit of being a new coach while also being a good recruiter so the 8-4 and awful losses to Marshall and Stanford can be overlooked by some recruits and even some of the board. Eventually Freeman won’t be the shiny new toy. Eventually he will need to win some big games and win 10-11 games. The rich will continue to get richer. The good coaches even at good programs will start to see the $$ and bolt to lesser programs that offer an easier route to top 5 recruiting classes and top 5 programs. The landscape is changing. Just hope ND can keep up.
I think for the most part the team showed improvement as the year progressed. I believe most thought MF got every bit he could from this team. As for me, I think we will see Freeman get better at both a coach and a recruiter. And that only means good things for the Irish.

you know it’s going to peter out and we’re only going to wind up with like 4 inches of snow, right? All the hysteria about “horrible snow storms” is always comical…
I was wondering what’s actually going to hit tonight?
We were suppose to do BJJ promotions tonight but contemplating cancelling if it’s bad out.

Maybe so. But like in sales. You can be the best salesman on the planet with best product but often times it comes down to price.

This could be true if not for the Stanford game.
That was midseason & a tragedy.

How can he get better if the Admin won’t play ball?

Got some fried chicken filets from Costco. Gonna try those out in the air fryer, put some mayo and pickle on top on a toasted bun, and see how they compare to Chick-fil-A.

The Costco organic nuggets are dead-on, so I have high hopes.
Costco has this frozen box of orange chicken that is great. The chicken crisps up perfectly, and the sauce is on the side so you can eat it as regular nuggets. Highly recommended to y'all

True. But hopefully that's an anomaly moving forward. Gotta give MF a little time. I am sure he learned so much of what not to do this season on the field and on the trail.

In the end, the Top 5 each is the last two years hasn’t changed at all. The three most successful teams, someone who decides this is the year in NIL and hope eternal Texas. ND isn’t landing a Top 5 class anytime soon. The question is only if Freeman can keep us in 6 - 10 consistently, which BK couldn’t and MOST teams cannot stay there consistently. Have you heard much about Clemson this year in recruiting? Besides Vizzina and Hanafin overlap? Not really. But there they are at 11 and 10 last year. Their bad years still land them around 10 in recruiting because of Dabo. BKs bad years were much lower. Freeman is closer to Dabo than BK. As it’s been, Clemson has to be the model. Clemson recruits a base roster of talent at a high level, maintains high culture (and as a result retains talent) and the QB gets them in, or in this case keeps them out of the CFP.

Cool Paul Chryst did a tremendous job at Wiscy, still got shit canned. Congrats on that. If you want consistent good season go get him. Besides Saban, there is not a coach that could walk into ND right now and materially change ND. The structural limitations as they currently stand make the Kelly vs Freeman point moot.

Freeman literally curbed a top 5 team at full strength. Kelly legit never stomped a top 5 team. He's already got a better signature win than Kelly, in year 1. The rich under Freeman are literally not getting richer, that's the point I showed above. With a 8-4 season in which he lost his starting QB and brought in a new staff with many having to pick up those recruiting relationships from the prior guy. Also, do not discount the impact of recruits building relationships years in advance. Stuckey is a straight up G, and the rest of his staff are likeable people.

The environment for Freeman was tougher, and yet he still made strides in trying to close that gap.

Sure. But BK also went 8-4 (or worse) numerous times. Including when he was the shiny new toy still trying to prove himself at Notre Dame. And #9 is still better than all but one of his classes and that's despite three Top 20 recruits literally purchased out from under Freeman's nose by other programs that are playing a different game than we are or than BK ever faced here. Who was the last Top 20 recruit BK even got verbally committed? Jaylon Smith?

Ultimately yes, Freeman needs to produce on the field. Of course he does. What he showed this year, without a capable quarterback, suggests to me that he can. And this class is strong enough to help him do it. Is it enough to win a natty? No, probably not. But the floor is still the 9 or 10 wins that BK established, and the ceiling has gotten higher.

Might sound crazy to say but these could both be right. Freeman could turn into a great coach and great recruiter but the team still falter because of the Admin.

Right now I feel like most are prefacing the season outcome and the recruiting outcome with “considering the circumstances”, those circumstances being NIL and him being a new coach. One of those will change over time, the other to be determined but probably not counting on it.

If PB comes to ND, he'll still keep listening to NIL offers on the side and potentially bolt after the first year.

At the end of the day, PB is a safety. In order of position group importance, safety is in a low tier:
  1. Tier 1: OL, QB, DL
  2. Tier 2: CB, WR, LB, TE*
  3. Tier 3: RB, S
  4. Tier 4: All ST
* TE is tier 2 for ND; tier 3 for other teams.

Focus on the kids that want to be here. Build and maintain a culture. Avoid the detractors.

If he bolts, then he bolts. Worth the risk.

The often rumored Oklahoma Meth Collective requires him to tweet that out. Skelly has too many teeth, look for him to knock some out soon.

I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more. If Lincoln Riley couldn't win at OU...BV has zero chance especially now that they're in the SEC. Zero chance...not gonna happen...ever.

If you flip a 6 it becomes a 9. He's just trying to be a little clever with it.
