The wave is gaining steam
Yes, he's by far getting the most love (see what I did there) of any of the other Heisman contenders. At least from national media people. Mendoza gets some, but it just sort of seems to be by default because he's the QB of an undefeated team. SEC homers are pumping Reed and Pavia. Sayin seems almost forgotten altogether.
I think it's more that they were obviously stat padding. Vandy's QB isn't usually a volume thrower and he's suddenly throwing 39 times up big against a team that's already rolled over? OK.
I think it was sort of brilliant to leave Love with only 8 carries. If he had 20+ carries it wouldve invalidated his whole statline. The obvious statpadding is offputting.
Yeah, some people have tried to accuse Love of stat padding but that doesn't pass the sniff test when he had only 8 carries and was out of the game a few minutes into the 3rd. Meanwhile, Pavia was still throwing late into the 4th.
I just don't see the flash in the Reed/Sayin/Mendoza group of QBs on undefeated teams to merit Heisman. They tried with that Mendoza toe tap TD but IMO that is more on the WR than the QB. WR circus catch usually means they are bailing out their QB, not the other way around.
If they aren't going to move the voting/ceremony to AFTER the playoffs, they kind of need to consider prior year bowl/playoff picture. Love had THE play of the entire season with the goal line miracle run. Add that to the slide show, IMO. If they want to keep playing the best(ish) player on the best team game, include playoffs for prime time impact factor.
Yeah, those QBs seem to be there just because they're QBs of top teams but none of them have any big splash moments. Mendoza sort of had the one you mentioned but that seems completely forgotten now. Meanwhile, I see NFL players doing the J Love celly and NFL media people sharing Love's highlights and stuff.
