The problem with most coleslaw is that it's just slathered in a mayo-based dressing. It's supposed to add crunch, acid and (maybe) spice to the sandwich. If you need additional savory flavors from your slaw, then your sandwich has bigger problems than the slaw.

Some type of pickled cabbage (like curtido) is almost always better than coleslaw.

If anyone is ever in the Northern Kane County, IL area and likes Mexican food, No Manches has become our favorite spot. It's about a mile from our house. Their margaritas kick ass and the food is fantastic. I've yet to be disappointed with anything on their menu I've tried. They opened up during the pandemic and we found them supporting local businesses during that time.

I make it a point to wear my USMNT shirt whenever I go there to break the owner's balls a bit.
Just moved from St. Charles to River Forest. Miss the horses! Recommend Townhouse on 3rd street for a chill lunch one day—it’s awesome!

Yeah, I like the crunch,… a good pulled pork sandwich is like the only thing I use slaw for at all. My pulled pork would convert y’all

We're up in CL and drive by there every once in a while. Always meant to check it out, but now I definitely will with the recommendation.

So just used pickled red onions, got it.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken.

Their Chicago location is on Fulton Market. It's excellent. Went there a few months ago. First post pandemic venture into the city.
Ummm, that is really a Yankee name for Pollos Hermanos.

OK. The issue of the best Mexican restaurant in South Bend has evidently been decided. Let's hear it for Chipotle.



I was ready to chalk this up as a joke list but Soccer Taco for Tennessee is both true and a deep cut.

South Bend has good Mexican food if you’re okay going to those parts of town. Some of the best tacos I ever had besides in Mexico were there. And you can’t beat dollar tacos at Flamingos if that place is still there.

I also stand by my earlier comment and one up it that Puerto Vallarta Express is the best food (not just Mex) in all of South Bend for lunch.

What moron picked Chipotle?!? There are several other places better than Chipotle. That’s not even a good restaurant.

I respect your earnestness, but it’s a no-go for me on the PV express. They do provide decent sized portions, but their meats are a bit saturated on the grease. Westside Mexican is a notch better than the majority of Mishawaka, but that’s not saying much.

Unfortunately, for most who have lived in SB longer than a month, the food needs a serious upgrade. It’s one of the worst places I’ve ever lived for good food.

Bowl of Pho is good, because it makes one thing really well if you like pho. Otherwise, the city is lacking.

When I fly into Chicago then take the train to Randolph Station to ride into South Bend I always have to get food as sort of my "last meal" before arriving into SB.

Its a pizza and beer town. Barnaby’s on jefferson not mishawaka. Brunos. Starlight if you like sugar pizza
