They aren't according to ND beat writersF’n recruiting, dude. Hope the coaches are still in contact with Avery Johnson.
Especially given the "settling for low hanging fruit" in the wake of Steve Angelies verbal last Spring. Now some are complaining about going big.You are also probably someone who was excited for Freeman's "recruiting".
This is big boy recruiting now, not Kelly "settling on
Could their handling of QB recruiting also be that Steve Angeli is performing better than expected in the spring?
Why are we freaking out that he is actually taking OVs when he said he is going to take OVs. Shouldn't we view this as "the sooner he takes OVs, the sooner he commits"?
Lunch beers. I just had severalHow else am I supposed to pass time at work then needlessly freak out over a 16 year old? Actually do work? Yeah right.
Silly question coming from a guy that joined IE back in '07.Why are we freaking out that he is actually taking OVs when he said he is going to take OVs. Shouldn't we view this as "the sooner he takes OVs, the sooner he commits"?
Neg recruit ND so a five star lands in conference instead?? Pretty short sighted by BKAnyone else afraid of BK's negative recruiting?
He may not land Dante, but if something he says sticks it could screw things up for ND.
cant speak for everyone, and certainly nto freaking out. I just am laughing at the "better LSU than aTm" comments like he doesnt have other OVs and hasnt talked about them being someone hes interested in visiting. Why are we freaking out that he is actually taking OVs when he said he is going to take OVs. Shouldn't we view this as "the sooner he takes OVs, the sooner he commits"?
I hope everyone spending the big bucks gets burned. So many of these kids are overhyped it's ridiculous.Going to be interesting to read the articles down the road about some of these NIL busts. Paying 17, 18 year olds millions because they have a certain number of stars next to their name.
Could you imagine if we gave Dayne Crist a $2M NIL deal?
Its fascinating because there is no "salary cap". Market value "is what it is" so it will be interesting to see what things look when the dust settles, if it ever does.2 things on that....
1) If you would have told my 2018 self that "ND recruiting" and "financial package" would be used jointly, I would have assumed you would be talking about summer school tuition. CFB is freaking nuts, and not in a good way.
2) What the hell is market value anyway? Is there some super secret spreadsheet that tabulates future football success and imperfect recruiting rankings, along with bragging rights for select boosters? I say that sarcastically, but using terms like that right now is just crazy to me. There is no way to value this other than what someone is willing to pay. This just proves how imbalanced of a country we live in where some rich boosters are now as important, or even more important, than the staff or university. Again, nuts.
Not as much as anyone else's. A smart man would ask "if those TV dinners were so bad why were you there so long". I am sure by now he has heard it all.Anyone else afraid of BK's negative recruiting?

The tried and true 8 Mile rap battle maneuver...I would expect that ND neg recruits (honestly assesses) itself openly to an extent in order to circumvent the efforts of competitors. In other words, we are what we are and have obvious differences/drawbacks when contrasted with other schools. My hope is that the staff is finding ways to promote how our differences make us uniquely powerful while also doing more to bridge the superficials as well. Yes, ND has the career network, history, prestige, academics, but we need Kendrick Lamar to wear the gear (ala Tupac) and that relevant cultural edge. NIL is now a big part of this new era, and ND is gonna have to find ways to flash competitively without losing its character. But anything Kelly has to say, I would think ND is out in front of it, and can retort that the guy who couldn’t cut it in the big games is now gone.
Continue to be perplexed as to why people disagree with this "strategy". Notre Dame feels extremely confident it's top target QB is coming. They sent out 7 offers this cycle, and recruited multiple QBs until they felt great about where they were with their top target. Their confidence is strong enough that even Moore taking visits doesn't change anything. If they're wrong they can attempt to flip a QB they've already offered who's committed elsewhere, or they can send out new QB offers.Don’t believe Rees / Freeman are dumb enough to not have back-up options unless they’ve received some assurances from Dante. I mean we’ve shut down QB recruiting outside of him.
As Lax mentioned earlier in the thread, the most likely scenario is that Dante wants to go to ND but wants to get a NIL package at market value. If ND didn’t think they could be competitive here with A&M, LSU, etc, they’d have started to explore other options. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
Not sure if I agree with the strategy but all
Is forgiven if they end up with Dante.

Not the same situation lol. No one at ND was confident that Shipley was coming. The thinking was that we had a good shot at best. And ND did pretty damn well at RB that cycle even after missing him. Will Shipley has entered the chat
I think you have to shoot for the stars if you want to get the stars.
MF and Rees have put all their eggs in the Dante basket and that's totally fine. He's a heavy ND lean, family isn't made of money so he wants to take his visits (I would too). Have to let him do that. He doesn't want to decommit or entertain other offers after he commits, so he can't commit until he takes those visits. There's no way MF and Rees gave him an ultimatum; they have to have told him to go ahead, we're waiting for you and your spot is here when you're ready to commit. That's why Moore said this past week that he knows though a quarterback impacts his class, the schools he's considering will get their offensive guys regardless. You can bet that came straight from MF's mouth.
We should all take a big, collective chill pill and give him time to finish his officials. Let him live a little. I'm happy that he's trying to get those visits over quick--the faster they're done the faster he commits to us.
Make sure you don't have a backup plan. Show Dante he's our man. If we keep that up there is no way another program is going to catch up and he'll be Irish in the end.
I hope everyone spending the big bucks gets burned. So many of these kids are overhyped it's ridiculous.
I still think many people are too invested in one 16 year old kid that may or may not pan out at the next level. There's a very good chance he doesn't wind up at ND, I think we need to diversify our approach and look at some other talents.
I agree with going all-in on Moore but this does highlight the risks here, because it's so hard for us to play in the transfer market. I'm sure there'll be a few who'd make sense but it's a big ask, unless we change up our undergrad transfer rules considerably in the next 12 months. Maybe we get a 5Y, but who's going to want to do that to sit behind Buchner, who'll probably be a second-year starter by then? And also will Pyne still be here at that point? Doubtful. Eventually the kid's going to want his own team.Yeah go all in and if it doesn’t eventuate get a transfer for 23.
