i dont think anyone here doesnt think there were assurances from Dante/Family. There clearly is or we wouldnt be in our current situation.Don’t believe Rees / Freeman are dumb enough to not have back-up options unless they’ve received some assurances from Dante. I mean we’ve shut down QB recruiting outside of him.
As Lax mentioned earlier in the thread, the most likely scenario is that Dante wants to go to ND but wants to get a NIL package at market value. If ND didn’t think they could be competitive here with A&M, LSU, etc, they’d have started to explore other options. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
Not sure if I agree with the strategy but all
Is forgiven if they end up with Dante.
I think the concern from my end in no particular order: 1. Unnecessary stopping of recruitment of others (if youre looking were looking). 2. quality/availability of any back-up options 3. Sometimes being competitive in an offer isnt enough.
I like to think of it as buying a house in current market. I can come in with a "competitive" offer at market or slightly above even. All it takes is for one buyer to come in and offer a couple grand over mine and its over, there goes the house.
So, if theres some sort of agreement between ND and Dante that is in the realm of, have fun go look around, tell us your best offer and well match it. I.E. My realtor telling the sellers realtor, hey dont let the buyers accept any offer greater than ours until we have a chance to review and match. Then sure were good.
However, theres been nothing reported on ND and NIL that says that is even remotely likely. 1. it would mean ND is putting together NIL deals for recruits, which, i think someones already publicly said ND believes that is against the rules and wont be doing it. 2. We have been telling recruits that the big money is earned and is for the top 5-10% just like the real world. That sounds like you have to have already played for us, which isnt going to be the case for Dante.
