Don’t believe Rees / Freeman are dumb enough to not have back-up options unless they’ve received some assurances from Dante. I mean we’ve shut down QB recruiting outside of him.

As Lax mentioned earlier in the thread, the most likely scenario is that Dante wants to go to ND but wants to get a NIL package at market value. If ND didn’t think they could be competitive here with A&M, LSU, etc, they’d have started to explore other options. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

Not sure if I agree with the strategy but all
Is forgiven if they end up with Dante.
i dont think anyone here doesnt think there were assurances from Dante/Family. There clearly is or we wouldnt be in our current situation.

I think the concern from my end in no particular order: 1. Unnecessary stopping of recruitment of others (if youre looking were looking). 2. quality/availability of any back-up options 3. Sometimes being competitive in an offer isnt enough.

I like to think of it as buying a house in current market. I can come in with a "competitive" offer at market or slightly above even. All it takes is for one buyer to come in and offer a couple grand over mine and its over, there goes the house.

So, if theres some sort of agreement between ND and Dante that is in the realm of, have fun go look around, tell us your best offer and well match it. I.E. My realtor telling the sellers realtor, hey dont let the buyers accept any offer greater than ours until we have a chance to review and match. Then sure were good.

However, theres been nothing reported on ND and NIL that says that is even remotely likely. 1. it would mean ND is putting together NIL deals for recruits, which, i think someones already publicly said ND believes that is against the rules and wont be doing it. 2. We have been telling recruits that the big money is earned and is for the top 5-10% just like the real world. That sounds like you have to have already played for us, which isnt going to be the case for Dante.

I think the backup plan thing is a bit overblown and misconstrued. Vizzina was not Moore’s backup plan, he was Plan 1B until they decided to go all in. They didn’t cut their backup plan loose they cut a close to equal recruitment short. Texas doesn’t have a backup plan, Clemson didn’t have a backup plan, Michigan doesn’t have a backup plan. You can disagree with all of them too but it’s a “move” that is common in recruiting, particularly at the QB level and if others are doing it, some (Moore) may question why ND isn’t. You could say well you’re visiting places too. Problem is it’s not a equal give and take. ND has to “give” more than Moore does, he’s the one being courted not us.

Would an occasional Avery Johnson article really change that much knowing their is a backup?

Maybe, but it is still an intriguing recruiting pitch compared to most places.

"Look, we don't have people that can offer you a flat rate for the use of your NIL up-front like other programs might be doing... but we DO know, for a fact, that the most marketable position in the entire country is QB1 at the University of Notre Dame. If you commit to us, we'll prove that to you over the next 8 months when Tyler Buchner blows up and starts signing deals for future marketing opportunities on his way to the college football playoffs. So we're not giving you $8M up front like Tennessee is, and we get why that's noteworthy... but your ROI is going to be wayyyyyyy above that when you start producing on the field at ND."

It's a modified version of 4-for-40, basically.

Sorry if it's been talked about, but where do we sit in his list of visits?

Do we get the "final pitch" ?

Unclear. In his most recent interview, he seemed pretty sure ND would be getting one. If I Had to guess, it'll be June 10th weekend.

Oregon OV the last week of April. Biggest competition IMO, but glad he is getting these OVs out of the way early.
Yep. Sooner the better. So LSU the 22nd. Oregon the 29th? I assume he goes to Michigan at some point. That leaves one other (A&M? Sparty? Ohio State? Miami?) and us?

Miami I'd assume for sure. Don't think UM, OSU, or Sparty get one. If I had to guess the fourth based off what I've seen others say, I think UCLA might have a better shot at one than A&M.

Good. UCLA doesn't really feel like a threat (unless they're getting big into NIL or something?). Neither does Miami, TBH, aside from Gattis being there, though feels like they're throwing money around right now so who knows. Michigan doesn't even get a pity fuck here? Cold.

MSU was always the biggest player if he was staying in Michigan.

Yeah I've read that but never entirely believed it, given the normal order of things. That said, choosing (or even just OV'ing) Little Brother and snubbing Michigan entirely would be an even colder move. I like this kid.

and honestly its more like the "real world" of being a professional anything, especially athlete. I still think its gonna be more on the rare side a HS kid sees it that way.

and then of course theres always the "why not both" camp.

I'm honestly starting to think ND may have an NIL deal set up for Dante tbh. Loy talked about "seeing why ND was confident" and said that was part of why he was confident Dante lands at ND. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but just found it interesting.

Your comment got me thinking. We (fans) of all teams follow their team pretty closely. We all know many of these kids never meet the hype or expectations. I doubt all of the NIL backers follow recruiting enough to know this.
A lot of NIL is based on playing time isnt it?

Fwiw, Sampson on the Irish Illustrated podcast today said that if Moore is not publicly committed to ND by mid June, that'd be the time for ND to start being worried. He and Prister both stressed the word "publicly".

I hope everyone spending the big bucks gets burned. So many of these kids are overhyped it's ridiculous.
I still think many people are too invested in one 16 year old kid that may or may not pan out at the next level. There's a very good chance he doesn't wind up at ND, I think we need to diversify our approach and look at some other talents.
I think people will get burned on the aggressive NIL stuff. All it takes is a couple kids sucking to realize "ohhhhhh this is not worth my money."

I'm guessing some have that language and some don't. Wish I could find one particular article but it basically said the language in the contracts is all over the place. Some money guaranteed, some not. Some have exclusive rights, some don't.

Probably depends who is giving away the cash. Some people piss money so a little guaranteed cash isnt anything. Others might be pissing in the wind however.

Think the only way to continue to have blind trust here is if you think ND and company agreed with him to a NIL deal already. Cause a “I’m coming coach” silent commitment ain’t enough to have extreme confidence here anymore

Honestly this is a good thing. The sooner he gets these visits out of his system the sooner we get an answer and either have a QB or time to find another.
Sure but this is an unofficial.
