Tobias is a strange case of extremes.
Dude deserves credit for staying committed to ND in the first place, imo, and also deserves some credit for never turning himself into an off-field distraction despite the constant conversation surrounding his usage as a frosh, his mistakes on the field as a frosh, his (non?)-development as a sophomore, his seeming lack of effort, still finding ways to make a big splash play here and there, etc.
But he also does NOT get props for his play or development. Sure, maybe we can blame some of that on Stucky and Parker for poor coaching, development, gameplanning, involvement, etc., but Tobias bears some of the responsibility, too. There should be a natural progression for a dude in year two just from being around tbh, regardless of outside influences, but there didn't seem to be a whole lot of that.
Last, the lack of effort in certain situations just looked bad. So I get why there is some animosity or harsh criticism. Guy didn't fight back for the ball and didn't seem willing to deal with physical DB play when the ball was in the air. Never treated it like it should be HIS ball to go up and get. Just seemed to hope it was falling to him.
He's got the natural talent. Hopefully he develops a more competitive mentality at his next stop... unless it's a future ND opponent.
