didn't ryan harris start as a true freshman at 265lbs.

I didn't think Harris started as a true frosh, but sportsreference.com says otherwise. I thought Sam Young in '07 was the first to start as a true frosh in a long ass time. That was a rough start, rough year, but he got pretty good by the end. So did Harris.

If you project Joe Otting's shotput into his senior year, it falls about five-ten feet short of Wagner's. But Otting also throws discus and javelin, and that says something about athleticism, so OK for both Wagner this year and Otting next given their track stuff.

I only threw shot one year during my Sophomore season, but my best was like...36'-38'. This dude nearly doubled that. I'm embarrassed. Can't wait to see him throw some opposing DEs around.

Interesting tidbit on Wagner from Sampson's morning article on the O-line spring battles: Sampson notes Wagner has a crazy high metabolism that prevents him from putting on weight as fast as he'd like. Says Wagner is consuming 8,000 calories a day to put on weight.

I know there's been a lot of discussion about Wagner's lack of weight gain. Sounds like it's more of a challenge for him than most but he's putting in the effort - could just take longer than we hope

Or it's possible he just is never able to put on the weight. NFL OL guys talk all the time about how maintaining weight is miserable and that's why tons of them drop tons of weight right after retirement.

They also mentioned on the pod the other day that he is supposably at 290 right now.

Either way, he could get the 40 year decision out of it.

When I was in college I looked at food and gained weight. Dude is the envy of many, but his circumstances are entirely different.

This is what we all did to put on weight before our senior season in high school. We had PB&J accountability checks via text message lol.

It was peanut butter sandwiches for snacks and before bed, and spaghetti with butter bread as often as possible.

Going from 320 to 240 would also add about 10-15 years to the life expectancy of most 30 year old men.

His hips and shoulders his senior year looked like someone who will never be big enough for OL. He has added muscle and some bulge but his body shape is basketball player or d end. He just isn’t as wide as you typically see. He makes up for it then and now with foot speed and wingspan. But if it can’t happen for him at 290 being a precise technician then its not gonna happen at the level we need

It all sounds horribly unhealthy. Give it a go this season - if no go. He should flip to D.

Same thing. I was skinny as a rail until I hit 30. Then some frickin' internal switch flipped.

If Wagner was good despite weight they would find a role for him in specific packages… if he can’t beat out tosh that’s alarming

As we focus on other OL due to play/age/injury, he's quietly been elite all year.

Isn’t this kind of the theme for great OL though?

Hats off to Amil! Loved listening to him on the ND weekly show too. Seems like an awesome dude.
