Sam Webb is a professional and you can take that as accurate the way he is reporting it. Hard to see him sticking with Notre Dame at this point, would love to be wrong. But he's basically lying to one of the coaching staffs, and you have to think it's Notre Dame.

Agreed

Even if he were to pick ND, these kinds of recruitment's never end up well for ND over the long haul

I have a theory that he’s flipping come signing day in December. Probably some stab that Harbaugh thinks is funny. I’m sure AW’s replacement is on speed dial.

I think Michigan want him as a DB. I can’t see how they would nab him from our D recruiterists if they wanted him.

I don’t think our staff would let that happen. I think they’d cut ties before it got to that. They don’t want another Deontay

They needed to get on another WR or two yesterday. It sounds like they’ve been in contact with some guys but I would think we’d need to get some OV’s lined up.

Hope they win here just like they did with fellow LAers, Jillery & Diggs. Those weren't easy either.

But I'd be knocking on these guys' doors right now:

1600 yds / 18 TD's + 10.5 100m.

1350 yds / 20 TD's

1100 yds / 20 TD's (PWO)

This might be our favorite receiver in the "class" I dont get the Michigan thing. But we do need to find another receiver for the class. I would love a 6'2 speed project similar to walker. We can work with a project with the third player in the class.

Harbaugh probably told him to call after his ND visit, so he would know what he's up against (what was discussed) and could try to counter that asap. Maybe Harbaugh is calling him every day, because he hasn't flipped him and he's going to keep at it until he signs? Just spit ballin' here.

Im of two minds of caring on this.
On one hand what does it say that Harbaugh appears hell bent on getting Walker to flip when he is on paper our 3rd rated WR in this class?
On the other hand maybe Walker is that underrated and our staff did a great job identifying him and he has huge potential and we may be losing a legit future starter?

If I were a recruit and just got home from visiting ND, Jim Harbaugh is the first person I’d call too. Except I’d tell him what a fucking dickhead he is and how Michigan is for assholes. Hell, I’d probably call him everyday and tell him that. And my parents would too.

Post of the decade. Hell, maybe all time. I can't like this enough.

If Walker is possibly flipping, is it possible he wants to play defense and we don't rate him at CB or S more than who we already have? There is only room at ND for him at WR, but perhaps there is room at UM for CB/S?

However, you'd think he would flip already.

Are we sure that ND wouldn't take him on defense as well?

Not at all, I have no inside information. However, unless I'm mistaken, I've read we are recruiting him at WR. UM is recruiting him at DB. If his preference is to play DB, either he isn't sure about playing it at ND or ND isn't wanting him to play there.

There is a chance he just wants to go to UM, but if that were the case, why would he drag out flipping (unless he is trolling a la that recruit from a few years ago.. Braiden McGregor (literally had to look it up)).

Not disagreeing with that but we need plenty more. Plus, Walker is a freak athlete. I’d love to see what Freeman could do with him on defense. This whole time it’s always been his preference was on offense but if that changed I’d be just as happy to accept him as a D ATH. Not that this matters at all, just the importance of landing him.

I think ND has decisions to make at WR at year's end with who they have there currently vs who is still on the board.

Austin, Lenzy, and Davis can all come back after this year right? I don't think any of them currently would get drafted very high if they went the NFL route. Austin has had a good year, but I think he can put up better numbers next year. At last week's game my dad and I stood next to Lenzy's parents during the team walk and he is tricky- he came in as the "speed" guy in the class and with injuries you almost forget about him, he is a guy I could see transferring. You cannot say enough about Davis's character, he is a kid who could've transferred and he stuck it out at ND.

The tandem of Williams and Merriweather will draw conversations of who is the better tandem Colzie/Styles vs Williams/Merriweather. With ND's numbers at WR this year does Jayden Thomas get in at some point? What can he do?

If Walker wants to play defense and ND can make that happen let Freeman share the news with him. Walker is flirting a lot with Michigan and I liked what Weis did in recruiting- if you are looking so are we. ND was in a recruiting battle with Michigan with McGregor and Henning...haven't heard a thing about those 2.

I think it is trending right now that Walker will not be a part of ND's class.

Personally I hope Avery Davis comes back given what he's been through and he's not going to end his career the way he would like. Plus we really don't have a solid 2nd option at Slot yet, unless there's someone in the freshman class incoming (Maybe Walker?) that would work, but they'll be inexperienced all the same so his leadership would be great.

I kind of hope Austin and Lenzy move on. Looking to next year I feel like they're taking reps that Styles and Colzie could and should be taking. Those guys are the future and they're hungry. Maybe CJ Williams can slide in behind Styles as a backup and Tobias Merriweather can roll behind Colzie.

If Austin, Lenzy, and Wilkins all move on and Davis comes back, you would be okay with only 7 scholarship receivers to start the season????? And in this scenario, forget about moving someone over to slot (ex Tyree) or Watts back to receiver. Only a foolish team and poor coaching would allow that level of terrible roster management. Injuries/attrition happen, like this year. From March to November, we've had three receivers leave/transfer, two suffer season ending injuries, and one move positions. It's not likely for that to happen again next season, but it wouldn't be impossible either.

Kelly is a believer in having good depth. He wouldn't do that to his new starting QB for 2022.

As much as I want the young guys to get the playing experience, you don't throw away depth (Lenzy) or starters (Austin). Given the track record of receivers here since Kelly was hired, he's very seldom to rely on freshman unless they absolutely have earned it and are prepared.

I'd keep the senior receivers, welcome them all back. Wilkins, I don't know, he's a humble, hard-working young man and maybe his experience in Rees' system could be valuable again, or bring some special teams experience.

Austin, whom some will say has been majorly disappointing, or perhaps overhyped, is still our leading receiver in yards and touchdowns. And this is first real season going against competition that are not his teammates. He may not turn into a superstar, freak like we hoped, but he will be immensely valuable for next years team.

Austin needs the extra year. He has the athletic tools, but he's up and down and needs to show consistency.

CJ Williams has stated Rees sees him as a slot receiver and is the most college ready WR prospect we'll have landed in a good while. Wouldn't be surprised to see him starting there next year, but Davis coming back wouldn't be a bad thing regardless.

Disagree on Austin. He has made some incredible plays this season, but the concentration drops and getting blanketed in the Cincy game leave a lot of room for improvement. I'd love to see him come back next year and truly dominate. He's seen what that can do for a guy's pro prospects with Claypool and Boykin (and even McKinley to a lesser extent).

Agree 100 percent on Austin. TBH the only way I can see him leaving is if he is flat out tired of the college life and ready to move on. I would think though by then he'll have graduated so it should be a tad easier on him, but he definitely needs another year of seasoning.

I agree. I don't think ND has had a consistent #1 WR this year. If Austin comes back next year I think he could be the #1 WR.

I hope Austin returns. Not a fan of Lenzy. He never was able to become a dependable receiver. Not sure how his injuries hampered his development, but he never seems fully healthy.

Austin has had too many drops and far too inconsistent route running to be anything other than a late round draft pick at this point. He absolutely should come back for another year, but there's no telling if he will. Next year I think there will be a good core with Austin/Colzie/Styles + CJ Williams probably getting some run in the slot. I think Styles might be a guy they flex all over the place if Austin returns.

I think over time the CJ Williams in the slot has somewhat morphed past what I expect. I think he’ll be a WR that can play in the slot, not a slot receiver exclusively. Styles you might consider similar. I honestly could see a carousel of guys appearing in the slot next year between the WR group, TEs and RBs. The only person I’d expect to be exclusively a slot WR would be a transfer or maybe they have like Salerno penciled in there.
