Isn't it implied that our penchant for 12 personnel is based on the lack of skill at the WR position? With last year's haul and POTENTIALLY this year's haul, stands to reason it would behoove the staff to put more skill on the field rather than less, no?

Id like to have the abilities to take advantage of what defenses are showing us rather than have them decide how to match up. Listening to Saban talk about how he handled NDS jumbo package basically came off like … we put in guys that could match up and those aren’t always the guys to play every down or in every game. Basically if the game is calling for a vertical open air attack you need the guys on your roster to do so and if it’s a ground and pound in a hurricane you need those guys too

I wasn't implying it was a bad thing. We just have a lot of elite talent at TE, so deciding who sits and who plays as the 4th potential receiver might be tough. First world problems!

Agreed. Need to be able to do both. Want/need balance.

Sorry. I didn’t mean to imply anything negative. I agreed with you. Just expounding on the way the elites have rosters built.

Rees knows his speed is fine for slot where it's more about your ability to get separation with your cuts and avoiding traffic.

Agreed. Speed isn't the end all, be all at WR.

Look at Adams in Green Bay; he's hardly the fastest WR in the league, but his insane release, crisp route running and ability to set up the DB to gain separation is what makes him the cream of the crop.

Not comparing Williams to Adams by any means but just an example. His offer list says plenty about his abilities and potential.

doesnt hurt to have a HOF QB be able to hit you in stride in a spot no one else can get the ball but you.

That certainly doesn't hurt, but I think they compliment each other well. I don't think Rodgers makes Adams who he is; there's a lot of give and take there.

I certainly think Rodgers has a large influence on the rise of Tonyan at TE, as well as Lazard and Valdes-Scantling. But Adams is an All-Pro anywhere he goes.

As a Bears fan, I hope we see just how good those guys are without Rodgers this season.

Meanwhile, I hope we see Mooney, Kmet and Robinson take off with somewhat decent QB play. I'd say we're about a few decades overdue for some.

opponent might want to cover that fade route lol

I assume the highlights are in chronological order and I noticed this as well. Then a couple/ few highlights later, playing against different teams, and he's going against zone or off man coverages. Someone did their scouting reports. He just torched that kid in the beginning.

Pete Sampson just dropped an article on CJ. Notably, Sampson only writes prospect articles on ND commitments, so I think this pretty much confirms what we've all been thinking - this one is locked up.

Article mostly focuses on CJ's strength training and prep with a nice quote at the end from CJ's trainer about what a good fit ND would be for him. Definitely sounds like CJ is going to come in ready to be an immediate contributor. Strong TJ Jones vibes here, probably with a slightly higher ceiling.

We could do a lot worse than another TJ Jones.

Definitely. I certainly meant that as a compliment. TJ came in ready to play, produced as a freshman and sophomore, and became the go-to receiver as a junior and senior. From a production standpoint he's probably #2 of Kelly recruited receivers after Fuller.

I see similarities in the readiness to contribute year one, the short area quickness, and slot ability. Williams has more length and strength so my guess is he can be a bit more dynamic in usage and more of a red zone threat.
