This is the type of dude that paired with Tyree, if we can land, proves Taylor's value as a recruiter is no joke.

I'm going with Christian McCaffery as I'm sure that's what Taylor will be selling to him

Read somewhere that he and Buchner are good friends from LAX. At one camp they had a race and Shipley said he just nosed Buchner in the 100.

I guess what I'm saying is, I should be writing this in Buchner's thread. Impressive.

I hope they want to play together. '21 would be off to a better start than '20. And so far, '20 has been great.

Can you imagine what our backfield would be like with he and Chris Tyree if he committed to ND??

If we get styles and Shipley, oh my goodness what a run of offensive commits in the 20 and 21 classes

Yes, CB vs RB

I think he's just saying in terms of biggest want in the class.

For being a major P5 team and making the playoffs last season, Notre Dame’s group of backs is pretty unathletic. No one can run away from a defender. We can thank Denson and his inept recruiting for that. Tyree and Shipley would fix that FAST.

I think you'll find Shipley quicker than fast. His long speed doesn't appear as impressive as you'd think for a guy who's in the 4.4's.

I wouldn't argue that. However, our cornerbacks also lack star power. Pride was pretty unanimously considered the best CB on the team and he's struggled defending the back shoulder throw so far.

Look, I'll take them both and not have a complaint...

This 2021 class is off to a pretty great start. Even with Crippen leaving the class in the near future, this class sits pretty, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

I hate when people make statements about Denson recruiting the RB position. That he was “inept.”

You have to take a step back and look at the whole picture. CJ Holmes, Deon McIntosh and Markese Stepp should all be RB’s on this 2019 Notre Dame team. Add Jahmir Smith and Kyren Williams with those 3 and I think we would all be happy with that RB group. But, I guess to you it is inept recruiting on Denson’s part to have those 5 as the RB unit.

Jafar Armstrong would still be at WR. C’Bo wouldn’t have been recruited and TJJ probably would have transferred out.

It’s not Denson’s fault that two of them made it on campus but fucked up off the field to get dismissed from the school.

It’s not Denson’s ‘a fault that Markese Stepp couldn’t keep his end of the bargain and get the grades he needed to get into Notre Dame.

I guess you consider those three incidents inept recruiting by Denson though right...give me a break.

Players leaving is a part of the game and it happens everywhere. If you don’t want players to get kicked out of school, don’t recruit questionable character. I’m not saying that Denson didn’t recruit the position, I just don’t think he recruited it well. Lance Taylor hasn’t even been here for a full calendar year yet and he’s already gotten a commitment from a 5 star running back that everyone wanted; if Denson was still here, I highly, highly doubt Tyree would be committed. It just seemed like Denson was always recruiting the 5th or 6th option. He could never land the guy that would help this team get over the jump. I loved the way he coached the position and thought the running backs played well, but we guys like Tyree and Shipley to really take the next step.

He was a poor recruiter. Not really all that debatable. All the talking heads acknowledge it and that his methods were a little too reserved to be successful in this day and age. Seemed like a super good dude, one of my favorite players of all time, but was never going recruit at a high level at ND and that hurts more than just the running back room.

While I believe ND is better off with today's staff, Denson did recruit the 3 guys no longer with the team as noted above & he did an excellent job with the guys he inherited on the field. Also, as is often forgotten about when discussing position coaches, he had regional recruiting responsibilities which landed ND Kevin Austin, Troy Pride, Michael Young & Drew White just off the top of my head.
