How rare is a white, 5 star RB?

McCaffrey wasn't even a 5 star.

We landed two studs from this weekend. Let's hope the excitement of the visit doesn't wear off soon and Shipley gives his commit in the near future.

Well we know know that he really WAS a 5* when he was in HS. The stats, testing and stories pointed to it.

So was he a 4* because he was white?

He said it would be after the season before he starts making decisions and that could lead into early OV season.

He was a 4 star because he was a 4 star. If we're going to assign new rankings based on our opinions, I wouldn't have asked the question because it'd be a never ending back and forth.

So is Shipley literally the first white 5-star RB, per recruiting rankings?

So...We're probably taking 2 rbs in '21? Seems tough to convince someone to be third fiddle to tyree and shipley. Tirek murphy sounds nice right now...

Edit:not actually complaining about rb recruiting as possibly bringing in back to back five stars is absolutely fantastic, im just still confused as to why we passed on murphy

Has ND done that in the last 25 years? We've had some good RB but when is the last time, if ever, we brought in 5 stars in consecutive classes?

First thing my brain jumped to was james aldridge and jonas gray, but it turns out they weren't even in consecutive classes. Going off of the composite, Aldridge was a 5 star back, and we followed that up by bringing in top 100 Robert Hughes and fringe 100 armando allen, followed by top 100 gray. Best kelly has done was the Bryant+folston class, which was followed by a zero running back class, followed by Adams and Dex.

Racial stereotypes aside, shipley mentions how coach taylor has been pitching the mccaffrey/love tandem to him and tyree. I like the sound of that.

Also just took Williams in ‘19. Taking Murphy in ‘20, along with Tyree, would’ve spaced things out nicely. Alas...

Was at OSU this past weekend. OSU believes they are in good position with Clemson.

Don't know why we would be after this past weekend.

Yeah man, neither do I. A team can't run the ball, why come, you know? It's not like we didn't make magic with less talented backs, have an RB working Heisman Campaign last year, get a RB less talented drafted and placed on the Packers. Pshhh..

Got our ass kicked by Michigan. Who cares about 30 wins in 3 years anyway. (shrug)

Fine line between optimism and delusion.

ND has had a kick ass running game basically twice in Kelly’s tenure,. 2015 and 2017 up until the Miami game.

I might be mistaken but Ohio State has had a good to great running game going back to Tressel.

The new running back coach might make a difference but based on history, film and results it’s a much harder sell.

BK has recruited 2 RBs that have been drafted, Prosise (who changed positions), and Williams. He's in his 10th years as coach.

Yet we've made the NC or Playoff twice. Weird. Sounds like all the more reason to come to ND. Jonas got good time with NE, Adams started at Philly. I guess I am missing the point. Better coach, better recruits, same system. What am I not understanding?

I can't recall Dabo ever having a RB he recruited while he was HC drafted outside of Wayne Gallman and he's been at Clemson longer than Kelly at ND.

Yet he seems to have zero problem landing talent like Travis Etienne, Demarcus Bowman and Chez Melusi.

Can’t argue with the delusional. 10 years of facts just makes them dig in all the harder. I do think Taylor looks like a good hire as RB coach and is a good recruiter, and we have the talent on OL, but Kelly’s running scheme has been ineffective against good defenses. Even in 2015, against Clemson, the RB was constantly tackled in the backfield. This isn’t going to change under Kelly, although that doesn’t mean the RBs can’t put up good numbers against weaker competition and make it to the NFL.

Can you blame him for wanting to go to Ohio State where they got a QB that actually knows how to run an offense and move the ball down the field.

???? Book would no longer be at ND when he is a freshman, and Fields will most likely not be at ohio st. either

BK has QB issues with every QB.

If I were 5 star offensive talent, I would continue to avoid ND.

The issue isn't the scheme so much as it's having a QB who doesn't make the defense respect the intermediate-to-deep ball. As such, they will park the bus in the box. You don't think that's going to hinder the running game?
