Sounds like a minor meniscus tear, which usually takes 2 weeks to heal.

I'd estimate that they'll hold him out this week and either hold him out for NC State or at the very least, limit his reps, and then be back for Central Michigan.

Sucks, but I think ND should be able to manage 1-2 games without him.

I asked this elsewhere, but what's the scoop on Tyson Ford? Seems like a great time for him to learn on some snaps. If he sticks around he'd be a big deal next year in the rotation.

It's Hinish the Younger time
From the limited amount we've seen from him he looks to have good bounce and bend. He's just a different player than Kurt. He's going to be smaller but a better athletic profile. Though, I'm sure he's going to be tough as nails and give 100% every snap.

Coach Wash said that near the end of camp he was working as a 5/4i technique which is the Big End position.

One thing that I feel right saying about Rubio. He was limping almost all of his snaps in the 3rd quarter, BUT he sucked it up and played hard right to the end. Really admirable. Tough guy who we'll need against the harder-than-we're-talking-about row of games we will face in the ACC --- we got as bad a draw that we could minus FSU only.

Potentially.

I'm not sold that Pitt is going to be good this year. The fact that they're going to have to rely on Phil Jurkovec at QB is already a red flag for me, but on top of that, they have to replace a lot of talent on defense, especially up front including unanimous All-American Calijah Kancey.

I think Wake is going to be in a major transition and without Hartman, it's going to be a rough one.

Duke had a good first year under Elko, but they also had a ridiculously easy schedule.

I think Louisville isn't going to be as good as the hype they're receiving. Jack Plummer is their starting QB, and he was not impressive last year at Cal and looked downright atrocious against ND, despite ND being a steaming dumpster fire going into that game.

Clemson's a wildcard, because a lot of it depends on how good Klubnik ends up being and if the receiving talent can step up. The defense should be legit even with the losses up front of Bresee and Murphy.

I think Clemson is going to be sneaky good. Like contending good

Agree on Clemson. Everyone seems to think Florida State is back, but they remain the class of that conference.
Unsure on the rest of our ACC slate but the fact is those are all tricky games. They are good enough to knock us off but we get no credit for beating them.
We will need depth, and discipline, both, to make it through.

It sounds like this isn't a permanent departure, but that he'll temporarily step away to deal with his personal stuff, and then possibly return.

I hope he's back for summer workouts, because that would be a substantial loss. Without Rubio, ND is looking fairly light at DT:

Mills (6'5 305)
Cross (6'1 277)
Onye (6'5 286)
Hinish (6'2 270)
Houstan (6'4 284)
Mukam (6'3 281)
Ford (6'4 277)
Vernon (6'5 274)

One guy who is above 290. That's not a lot of size. Now, granted, we're a few weeks removed from the last game of the year and guys tend to lose weight over the course of the season. Cross was 288 before fall camp and is now 277. So I'd imagine all of these guys will end up significantly bigger when fall starts up. That said, still pretty undersized.

Hopefully Rubio is able to resolve his issues, whatever they are.

This a real bummer. Mentally this has got to be tough for Rubio. He works to come back after taking time off and now will have to rehab a foot fracture. Not easy to do for someone over 300 lbs

Good news is that it's still a month away from opening day, and foot fractures generally take 4-6 weeks to rehab.

Provided the fracture isn't severe, he could return in October.

Good thing ND is deep at DT though.

Same as last year. He went down with a sprained knee after the first game. Missed the next four or five games. A fractured ankle isn’t serious and usually has no setbacks with recovery. He should be back to 100% by midpoint in the season.

Does hurt the depth a bit, but besides A&M, there are no big boys on the schedule the first month.

It’s 2nd metatarsal foot fracture. Surgery today. 9 weeks to bye week,

10 weeks - Stanford
11 weeks - @ GT in Falcons stadium
12 weeks - @ NYC vs Navy
13 weeks - 2nd bye
14 weeks - F$U

Walk in a boot until 6-8 weeks. Play a month later ish. 10–12 weeks.

At 300 pounds with lower limb injury history (knee last year). I’d plan on shaking the rust for only a few snaps near the latter of that timeline and hope for “full go” against FSU and play off push.

They say “October” and I hear November….

Good points. Likely not 100% and back in good conditioning until November.
