Does anyone know where Elston sees him playing: Nose or 3tech? I think he could play either very well but any word on that?

Could have a Jillery type career where he does both.

---- In other news:

All of the Iowa 247 analysts in existence CB'd him to ND.

I haven't seen it mentioned as he's only just been offered. I'd assume there might be some clarity on that when he visits in June for Camp.

I'm with Crusader on this, in that I think he could play both. But similarly to Lacey, while they can play both, their real value is in being an athletic/disruptive 1T. I also think he's going to be a monster of a human being by the time he's 20-21. He measured in at 6'5.5 288 lbs. in April at an Opening Regional. In time he could probably carry 310-320 and keep his quickness.

Looking forward to see what Elston can do in 2021. Him and Quinn are doing great on the trail.

A wall in the middle with that size. If he can maintain good quickness and leverage, then he's going to be a big asset.

Elite talent in the trenches is what Kelly was missing early on and what made Weis' teams never able to live up to their potential. I'm loving what they are doing along the lines lately.

I agree, he's not Heistand. Heistand would have had this O line class done months ago. But Quinn has showed he can recruit top talent. I still wanna see how he develops them and see if our O line takes the next step forward this year. Moving Elston to the D line was one of the most underrated moves Kelly made.

Elston started as the DL coach under Diaco and that was his position for the first 5 years. Never should've been moved in the first place. Brian "The Stain" Van Gorder, ugh.

I totally forgot about that, he made no impact there because the talent level is nowhere near what it is now and that's a huge credit to Elston and the recruiting he has done.

I find it hard to believe he is still earning a living as a "professional coach".

Well, not sure you are remembering all of his tenure very well.

In 2012 we had the #1 defense in the country through the end of the regular season. A significant part of that was dominant DL play. Our top 3 Dlineman of Tuitt, Shembo, and KLM combined for 25.5 sacks and 32 TFL's. For comparison, Okwara, Kareem, and Tillery (last year) combined for 20.5 sacks and 32.5 TFL's.

In 2013, (with KLM gone and both Tuiit/Nix injured and out of shape) the group took a significant step backwards compared to 2012 but not that much compared to 2018. Tuitt and Shembo (the DE's in that defense) had 13 sacks that season. This compares to Kareem and Okwara's 12.5 sacks last season.

So, there were certainly years where we had comparable performance under Elston's previous tenure and his current tenure. However, the best part of this current tenure is it looks more sustainable as the recruiting has been more consistent.

2012's D-line was pretty legit under Elston. He never should have been moved. But even when he was he coached up a walk-on in Joe Schmidt and made him serviceable before his leg snapped and helped Jaylon become the best LB in college football. Dude's just an outstanding coach but he does belong on the DL.

No, he’s #195 on 247 and unranked on rivals. Rivals hasn’t done their 2021 rankings yet. Personally I think he’s a top 100-150 type talent right now.

Yeah I know he is #195 overall currently: I was more projecting that by this time next year he will be a top 100 recruit. His size and skill set are reminiscent of Dexter Lawrence. And if Rubio turns into half of what Dexter Lawrence became...lookout.

Poor Deano's gonna have to ice his feet tonight.

Another great pick up and a 100% RKG'er. Like Kahuna, he was made in a lab for ND.

I love that the Gug finally gave in and just followed IE to gain a schematic advantage in prospecting & evaluation. BVG still reading NDNation.

Any word on when Kaneyoufeelit's getting paroled? Sure could use a Blue Dino bout now...
