Kevin Sinclair is openly bashing the kid's talent in the 247 thread, which is certainly telling.

Yeah when you visit a school who ND is fairly big rivals with and they just don't like each other, you are spitting in ND's face. I would honestly pull his scholarship. ND isn't desperate and doesn't need him. They will definitely be able to replace him.

This feels like an inherent risk with IMG kids. They are already, essentially, professional football players in high school. Why wouldn’t they treat recruiting as free agency and play the field as long as possible?

Since Crippen is seen more as C prospect, I wonder if this opens the door for C prospect James Brockermeyer to get an offer?

It is possible that ND has been cold on him and he has picked up on that. We are supposed to be in the hunt for some excellent OLmen in 21.

You don’t visit an ND rival as a solid commit, that’s it. Kick rocks. We need dudes that want ND.

Normally the post visit quotes from recruits are meaningless yawners. This one I'm looking forward to. Can't wait for the spin.

According to Mike Frank at ISD, ND knew about this. Not sure if it's a mutual thing, but at least communication is still there and he informed them he was going.

It's always possible he just went with a friend who Michigan is recruiting and wanted a free college game but I doubt it

Coach Hairball probably promised a backyard BBQ with a sleepover.

Welcome to recruiting, I agree with all that visiting a rival isn't cool.

Look at the last few classes with how ND has loaded up on the o-line. If we lose him, then we lose him. ND recruits the o-line just fine.

I'm conflicted because I don't know how to evaluate OL very well. Will he end up being a top 20 player in the OL class?

There are no guarantees so I really liked these early commits.

His problem when it comes to ND is: With Tosh Baker having one of the OT spots locked up, that starts forcing other guys like Blake Fisher or Landon Tengwall inside (worked for Q) While I think Crippen is a top tier OG/C prospect, I can name 10 OT's I'd rather have in a class of 4 knowing I can move Tengwall and/or Fisher inside.

I get the principle and the action being messed up but honestly it happens at all of the top recruiting schools in the country and while it does show a lack of commitment I do hope the coaching staff convinces him to stay in the class. If ND wants to be recruiting at the level of a Clemson, Alabama, and LSU then they’re gonna have to fend off some pesky schools when they come calling. Alabama probably has had half of their commits visit other schools and I think that would be a dangerous precedent to have at ND but I’d coax Crippen to stay in the class and then if you were to get 5 OL committed or 6 that are better than him then tell him, sorry you weren’t 100% committed. That’s what Bama does every cycle. It’s kind of brutal but it’s the best way to recruit over a kid. I’d bet Bama likes Caden Clark as a TE prospect but if they were to get Darnell Washington (5* TE) then maybe they’d tell the kid, sorry buddy but you were flirting with other schools for 6 months and we recruited over you. It’s a sleazy thing to do but it’s a thing that the top schools do often. At Clemson they do a decent job of avoiding that but it’s still a tough situation. Hopefully they can nip it in the bud and keep Crippen as an OC prospect cause they need 4-5 guys in the 2021 class on OLine!

I could see Crippen possibly being scared off of ND do to the fact that elsewhere he will have an easier chance of getting PT as I don't see him as anything other than a Center at ND. Patterson has 4 years of eligibility and they have 2019 stud recruit Zeke Correll ready to take over for him

Mike Singer still gathering specifics but he does not think Crippen will end up at ND.

What's to gather? This is done minus the carefully worded tweet.

"After some reflection, I've realized I don't have what it takes to succeed at the incomparable Notre Dame so I'm opening my recruitment back up. Any bottom-dwellers and/or those who can't win their conference are under consideration. The skunkbears lead because they are a rare combination of both. Coaches who make excuses are also desirable. I wanna thank god, my family and myself"

I think y'all should chill. I'm not plugged in on this one or anything, but a lot of you are throwing shade in any direction you can because the kid visited another school.

We have had commits do it before and decommit, and we have had commits do it before and stay committed.

Speculating his ongoing recruitment is one thing, but questioning his ability or character seems awfully short sighted. (And even if you're right, doesn't make it right.)

What good is a fan message board if you can't throw shade at players who appear to have one foot out the door? If he stays with ND, then I'll post a new quote about how he "decided to tough it out at the best university in the world and is excited to play for a natty or 3".

Maybe he should've visited UM on 10/26.

I know the majority has ND losing against Michigan, I don't and I still think Ohio State beats Michigan.

I hope we pull the offer bc it’s his 4th visit. I’m fine if a recruit wants to take a visit to make sure of his decision...but he knows what scUM has to offer after three visits. This is just a slap in the face to ND and he is not worth the time. OL recruiting is not an issue for ND and there are plenty to take his place who want to be at ND.

Who was the last committed player who visited another school with his family and still signed with ND? Has a Junior commit ever done it?

This. Especially a MB that has no personal ties to the program. IE is the perfect forum to test rumors and air grievances in recruiting, coaching, scheduling, etc.

More this. I'm with Dad on this one. I'd love to see ND back channel the following to Mike Frank: ND has cut Crippen loose. . . letting ISD break the story before Crippen releases the inevitable. . . "After much thought and prayer. . . " spiel.
