Did they pull him or did LSU drop him?

I've heard conflicting things...

Probably depends on who you ask. Gee didn't want/like some of the drama coming out of Baton Rouge..... according to him.

LSU fans saying he couldn't beat out the competition so he walked.......I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle 🤣🤣🤣🤣

From over in the Who's Next 2021 thread:

ISD has a nice update after talking to a beat writer that covers LSU. The beat writer is adamant that he is not being "processed out" of the recruiting class. There was talk of him starting at linebacker and that was the start of him looking around.

Great offer list, great film, and great get. Really digging pushing the scholarship numbers too. Georgia is such a hotbed for talent. I’m glad to be doing so well there recently.

This class is truly amazing. Seems we got at least 10 quality starters.

I don’t know where Gee ends up on our defense but I bet he is a 3 year starter somewhere.

imo the DE haul was a huge swing and a miss.

That’s hard to get to for me. To me, a huge swing and miss would mean that we either got nobody or the guys we got will provide no valuable production. And I don’t see either.

As a grade, I’d give it a C+. We got 3 players, all with some good tangible traits for Elston to work with. I don’t see anyway that at least one of them doesn’t turn into a starter level player during their careers. One of these players will have an Ade like career. Marinate for 2-3 and play for 2.

I made the point the other day that the ratings agencies don't rate ATH's or DB's for these 5 DB systems accurately.

Then, today, I read Barton's comments on Gee and it solidified that. He said he was not an elite athlete but a good one for a S. Which is true, because he probably won't be a S but a Rover.

Then you read Prister's and O'Malley's comments and you see things like "Three star? No way." Or, "exceptionally fast Rover or a Big S." And that's the point. Gee's rating is based on being a big S, not a very athletic hybrid defender. The 247 gang have him rated as the 7th best player in the class behind Rubio (high praise) and think it's crazy he's a 3 star.

That’s the sad thing. People think we aren’t getting the athletes we need to win a championship because he isn’t rated a 5*. Coaches know more about recruits than analysts by a country mile.

I’m sure these analysts talk to coaches. Our 5* players have been way more productive than our 3* players so I’d say there’s a little something to it.

To be clear, we're not getting the QB play to win.

The story has now made it's rounds, that Gee and his family actually re-initiated the contact with ND. They hadn't been in contact for months but when Gee decided to take a step back from his LSU commitment his parents wanted him to check out ND. That's when things got rolling. Joseph picks up the W thanks to Mama and Papa Gee.

Not gonna lie, it made me feel a lot better about the recruitment as well. A lot of times, last second recruitments, like this seemed to be, can cause buyers remorse. Doesn't seem that this will be the case here as it wasn't the staff hard selling him on ND but his family making an educated decision to pick this recruitment back up.

Rovers seem to grow on trees. I don't know why he'd go to Rover since we always have plenty of athletes for that position.

If he can't play safety, neither can Justin Walters because Gee is noticeably faster, at least in their film. I'll predict he sticks at safety. Losing Hamilton, a long range safety will be hard to do and I think Gee can be a poor man's Hamilton.

Q&A with Incoming Notre Dame Safety Khari Gee (247sports.com) Premium

Good read here from Sinclair at II. Interview Khari and his trainer Ed Miller who also trained JD Bertrand, Kyle Hamilton, and KJ Wallace to name a few. A couple interesting takeaways from not only this article but other things that have been going on in recruiting.

1. ND won this recruitment because of how well they had done in GA recently, more specifically Atlanta. When he decommitted they picked ND more so than Joseph recruiting him too ND. I think that distinction is important because it shows that the staff prioritizing this area is working. It's working for them when they don't even know it, lol. Being in the playoffs probably didn't hurt either.
2. For those that have been reading a lot of the 2023 recruiting interviews you'll know this but Coach O'Leary is a hit with these young men. Huge hit. The combinations of Freeman/O'Leary and Freeman/Mickens seems locked and loaded.

As far as Khari goes, I'd put him in the group that may not play a lot of snaps this year but this class has a few guys that should be on takeover watch as Sophomores. He's one of them for me. This was a great late cycle addition.

There is a reason O’Leary’s daily posts read as follows:

- Miami
- Tampa Bay
- Tampa Bay
- Orlando
- Kentucky
- Tennessee

Indiana native but what amounts of his background before here is Georgia and Florida and you don’t sent anyone that’s not one of your top recruiters into Florida

Easy come, easy go? Still hurts to lose a 4- star talent at a position of need. Wonder if NIL is involved.

Why would NIL be involved?

I see a tweener who could be lost postion wise, main recruiter left, was a late stage commit, from further away and didn’t play FR year.
