That would have been nice this year. I think we're going straight from Ian to Tyler.
rewind and read it again... I'm referring to the other PJ...

Sorry, I'm slow this afternoon. Thought you were talking about five star Phil. Who's the other PJ?

If he EE's... might as well. Young 5*'s need snaps or they face possibly wilting on the vine. BK may have already wasted a good portion of PJ's ceiling Even if PJ's two steps ahead of Tyler in '21, he may as well take a step back and develop the next guy for a run.
Makes me sick to type that.
I had sky high hopes for PJ when he committed. Never thought Book would start one game either when he signed... ooooops. Makes me tear up when I think about it.
Indeed. I'm not ready to quit on Phil just yet, but I've given up on predicting what our future/young QBs will and will not do.
For all we know it'll be Brendon Clark who takes Notre Dame to the Promised Land.
Yup, it's like a spin on the wheel of fortune.
I haven't totally given up on PJ either, but if Book does come back, I think he might bolt.
Clark in his limited time didn't look bad that's for sure.
I can't help but be stoked about Buchner though.
If my heart gets broken, so be it. Better to hope I guess.
There is always hope. And also the reality that the three best QBs of the Brian Kelly era - Rees, Kizer, Book - were really never seen as QB1 material. Until they were. But, then, we've never had that QB who could win it all So... Buchner!
Will be interesting to see what Phil does, assuming Book comes back. I hope he doesn't transfer, because he's one injury away from being the guy. And I'd certainly hope he could win the job in '21. He's got the raw talent, and three years in the program to refine it.
Until there's reason to believe otherwise I'll tell myself Phil's sticking because he seems like an RKG. But if he thinks he can get a waiver and go play somewhere sooner, I wouldn't really blame him.
Ranked 42 in the new Rivals top 100, 8th overall QB and classified as a Pro QB
fvcking comical
I mean it was a +23 gain for Buchner. Can’t be too upset about that.

They’ve actually only updated the overall ranking. New position rankings come out Thursday.

I honestly do not see a better QB in the 2021 class. Buch is a ridiculous talent
Think it is hard to gauge just exactly how good he is with the competition he faces
Any summer camp plans for him? Would love for him to show the scouts how much better he is than everyone else.
McCarthy is still ahead of him.

Tyler Buchner is fun to watch. He's a great HS QB, no doubt the first QB anyone would pick for their HS team. No doubt he'd be doing much the same at any school in the country including up the road in the Trinity League. Statistically, he had the same season Kyler Murray had during his Sr. year. (Yes, Murray was playing a big boy, TX schedule.) Only DJ Ukulele at SJ Bosco equals him for the best high school football prospect in the country... regardless of class.
BUT
I've learned something in the past 2 years via our friend Kedon Slovis and his nextdoor neighbor, Spencer Rattler.
It's easy to get blown away by a guy who seems to do anything & everything when the ball is in his hands... and scoring lots of TD's. They're the guys who would be the best RB, WR, CB or safety if he wasn't the QB. Physically, they are seemingly from another planet.
It's just as easy to not get fired up (as much in this case) for a kid who doesn't run much, doesn't scramble like Fran Tarkington, and doesn't hit a 60 yard bomb every other down. Instead, they take two step drops and scan the field and the ball is out. From sideline to sideline, they either hit guys right in the numbers of perfectly lead them when called for and it doesn't matter if it's a 5 yard cross or a 30 yard out, they make all the throws. They are Brady Boring.
That's Rattler and Slovis for you. I will give Rattler credit, I saw him make a lot of excellent "boring" throws that you have to make in college but there was still a lot of Point Guard in his game. Creating on the move, trusting his line and letting a handful of DI WR/TE's do their thing.
Slovis on the other hand is boring like Brady. Stand in the pocket and pick apart 6A AZ defenses with zero talent around him. Kind of ashamed I didn't see THIS coming. As I've mentioned, my kid went to school with Kedon so I saw him play when I wasn't working another game, which often was Pinnacle w/ Rattler & Baker. I thought he was good enough for ND to take a look at but in a Drew Pyne, Ian Book, Tommy Rees sorta way. Get them on the roster, hand them a clipboard and have them ready to manage if things start tearing/breaking on QB1 & QB2.
So before you fall in love with a QB who's a walking Nintendo character where it's run, bomb, run, bomb, watch a full game and see what he's doing when not in highlight mode. Watch what he's doing when the DB's are better than his receivers, watch what he does when he doesn't have a future NFL LT and 4 DI linemen in front of him. Watch what the 35-40% of incompletions look like.
A lot can be learned from nolights and lowlights... Ask Kevin Pyne.
.
1 - Not sure how old you are, but I can take a guess based on your "Nintendo" reference hahhahaah ;-)
2 - I refuse to listen to your clearly reasonable and logical thoughts. I AM ALLLLLL IN ON TYLER AND NO ONE CAN TALK ME OUT OF IT lolol
So old he knew how nasty John Tewkbury was in RBI and also knew to sub in Jeffrey Leonard when he was the Giants.
