I don't like it, for week 1.
And there just seems to be an "off" vibe with the whole QB thing. Even Marcus didn't really convince me yesterday that Carr is the better option other than gut feel.

We have a good team, but I think there's still time needed to gel. And Miami is of course a hard place to play for us, against the Hurricanes.

We are so back; For the uninitiated, I'll be tracking the correct predictions on a weekly basis and will provide standings updates each week.

Our returning co-champs are @tko and @Pops Freshenmeyer with six points apiece in 2024.

Good luck and Go Irish! Beat convicts!

Same. I’m always leery in Holtzian fashion but agree it doesn’t feel right specifically w/ the QB. I think it‘s just too many unknowns more than anything. It’s one thing to ask a first time starting QB (RS Frosh no less) to ease into the season w/ a cupcake but to play a top 10 team on the road in stadium where history tells us will be extremely hostile is a lot to ask.

What do the rest of y’all see that convinces you ND rolls? Not saying they can’t but so many questions for both teams.

Irish 27-23

Notre Dame rushes 35 times for 225 yards and the OL keeps their young QB clean, Carr goes 15-24 for 175 yds with one TD and no picks. It's a consistent stat line the Irish will get used to seeing until mid-Oct when Carr settles in and throws for his first game over 275 yds and four TDs against NC State (3 passing/one rushing).

The dude shuts down media access and actively runs misinformation campaigns, I would not expect him to give a straight answer around how they evaluate QBs and each player’s strengths and weaknesses akin to giving film on each ahead of the game. He gives zero Fs about anyone outside that locker room, I think he’s earned some trust to make the right call.

Barring TO's (for us), Irish should control the game with their running and controlled pass game and our elite Defense kicking ass. Irish by 10.

At the matchup level, I think ND matches up great with Miami. ND should be able to establish the run against a weak interior DL. Their secondary is bound to be better than last year, but it's all transfers and that takes time to gel so Carr will be able to throw when needed. Defensively, ND's secondary will shut down Miami's average at best receiving corps. Beck is good, but we've seen he's turnover prone. The only way ND struggles if Miami can consistently run the ball. Also, for all the talk of this being a "hornet's nest", this will be the weakest environment that ND will open with out of this, TAMU, and OSU.

Also, what are all these questions ND has outside of QB? The DC? Maybe the interior DL? I don't really see a ton of questions.

A few other posters have mentioned that Miami might not be that deep past first string. I think it a great point if true. ND is pretty deep at most positions except tight end, I think. As the game goes on ND can rotate without much of a drop off. Can Miami say the same?

Hope you’re right.

As to the other questions?I meant for both sides BTW.

There’s questions as to which Carson Beck shows up w/ seemingly zero “in between” opinions which leads me to believe he’ll play solid…not great/not shitty…if I had to bet

Questions on the new revamped Miami secondary. They were all proven talents at the highest level of CFB before transferring so question is can they instantly gel and prevent the ND pass game to hurt them or will they need more time? They’re certainly better than what UM had last year but that’s a low bar. Will UM’s pass rushers make life easier for the new secondary? Another question

Miami doesn’t possess a RB w/ the highlight reels like Love or Price so they’re not getting much attention. But the Miami OL is argubly the best ND will face which means even above avg RB can gash a defense if the DL can’t hold up & the LB can’t be in position to make a stop. Luckily, we haven’t seen too many unheralded RB have a career day vs ND in the MF tenure (unless I’m forgetting someone) but it’s still a question going into this year.

Will the ND OL continue to build on last season? ND couldn’t really lean on the run in the games that mattered most in the CFP but they won 2/3 of those vs UGA/PSU/OSU. Not saying Miami will be able to bottle up Love & Price the way those 3 defenses did but it’s a fair question to have going into the game.

Has Miami’s interior DL been described as “weak”? If so, I missed that so apologies for my ignorance. If that’s the case & ND can exploit that by the OL bullying them, then it should be an enjoyable evening.

What I’ve seen on X & message boards, for the most part; is each fan base predicting their team blowing out the other. Nothing wrong with that but I think it supports my claim that there’s too many questions on each side to make an educated pick so fans are going w/ their guts or their hearts or both...which is 100% fine. One thing for sure, we should have fewer questions regarding both these teams after Sunday evening.

Not that this should come as a shock to anyone, but this game will largely depend on Carr’s ability to take care of the football and get the ball to his skill players. I have confidence that Denbrock won’t put Carr in a compromised position. I expect them to lean on what’s proven, which would be the OL and running game.

I expect the defense to be aggressive up front. They have the horses in the secondary to man up across the board. Pressure Beck and force him to hurry a decision.

I think it’ll play out similarly to A&M, but I think the offense will be a little more aggressive.

Notre Dame: 28
Miami: 17

For folks worrying about their OLine vs our DLine: Freeman dropped a hint in the (last?) press conference, that our DLine is as good or better than he's seen yet. AND, we apparently go three deep at all four positions, AND young Hinish is better than old Hinish, and then there's Onye, and and and ---> that means WATCH THE GAME AS IT WEARS ON. If our OLine is as good as it should be, then the O, if not turning it over, should wear on the opponent equally as the D does. I'm expecting a first half War (due to their excitement), but a second half beating them gradually down. JUST DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING EASY (and unearned.)

If they're good, then we win close (barring stupidity.) If they're overrated, then the second half is a real beatdown.

And another way it can go is: our OLine keeps everything clean and the short passes not only work but EVERYTHING works, AND our DLine rushes their QBs brains out, and the best DBackfield in the nation intercepts pass after pass. THEN, maybe we DO win in a rout.
... KoolAid not THAT green yet.

My bigger worry during the regular season is injuries...if we can escape without any major injuries we make the CFP.

I hate that this is on a Sunday. My game day ritual is to start my morning with eggs, bacon and a 20 oz Yeti filled with an old fashion. I don’t think God will be too happy if I’m sipping that during church.
