This was one of my favorite throws all day. Just put it in a perfect spot, long throw, great touch. Gilbert did a great job to beat his guy too.
Why do you think that with deuce as well? If Carr becomes all that he could be gone by deuces jr yearThe last college football games Angeli and Minchey play will be for other teams. Same goes for Deuce IF he signs... unless he switches to WR like McCulley from IU.
Sam Pendleton won't stick at center.
This does feel like the most likely outcome - Angeli as a bridge to Carr at QB2, with Carr likely QB1 next season - but I still hope Minchey sticks at least for this season. He has a lot of upside and if something goes sideways to Carr I think he's a better long-term option than Angeli. I'd love to see what he can do.Sure looks like Angeli is "next man in" which means Minchey probably leaves. IMO as long as Carr sticks around we're going to be fine. Carr is the guy we can't afford to lose. He'll eventually beat Angeli out, maybe even Leonard.
I wouldn't be surprised if Angeli and Carr get a lot of game action this fall as Leonard is going to get hit a lot and his health will have to be "managed" which means reduced snaps. By the season's end we'll know Carr has the job in 2025 and beyond and we won't miss Minchey.
I'm thinking we are 100% good if Leonard is QB1 and Carr is QB2. It's great having 4 QB's and all, but you can't play 4 QB's in a season unless you have awful injury news. If Carr is indeed as special as he looks, then there is no other plan that makes any sense for 25' then Carr starting game 1 next season.Just watched the spring game and here are some overreactions:
QB rankings:
1. Carr - he had 3-4 dropped balls, including the 4th down to go tie it up. KK dropped a 35-50 yard dime piece. Carr takes shots and reads defenses better than anyone else on the roster as an EE freshman. His upside is enormous. He made one very bad decision that could've been an INT. He had one errant pass that floated on him. Without the drops, his stat line would've been 18/19-23, 210+ yds and most likely another TD. His throws have touch, they have timing and he immediately sees the correct read most of the time.
2. Minchey - he made a couple bad decisions and he's also show touch and he takes shots. He's more likely to cost you a game if he takes too many chances but he can also win you a lot of games if he continues developing. Has big upside but appears more raw than Carr.
3. Angeli - he did some good things and took what the defense gave him. His one long throw really skewed his stats on a CB falldown which diminishes the throw but he took it. He also threw some odd passes and seemed more comfortable taking the checkdown. 1 or 2 of his passes that kept drives alive wouldn't resulted in him getting blown up but the defense was pulling up. I think he takes too long on some throws and that can be catastrophic in big games. I've been an Angeli fan but getting to see all 3 QBs rotating made it obvious that Angeli isn't capable of the same throws of the 2 QBs above.
The strongest move Freeman & Co could make would be naming Carr the backup. The time is now to get this guy seasoned. It'd be great if he got game reps in blowouts while you bring him along. We can't waste time with a talent like this. The 2nd best move would be elevating Minchey to back-up and Carr to 3rd but I don't know how you justify it.
I hate it, but I have a fear that Minchey will want a higher position on the depth chart and may look for greener pastures. If that happens, I think we'll get tired of seeing his stat lines on the ticker while watching ND games. Angeli is the safety pick and since ND isn't trying to win 4th place, it'd be best for ND's future if Carr & Minchey were moved ahead. This pains me, I really wanted Angeli to surprise everyone but Carr has waaaaaaayyyyyyy outplayed what I expected as EE freshman.
Of course, I've seen one practice (and the least important practice since it was the B&G game) but taking what we saw and combining it with what the beat has said, I think it's at least a fair appraisal.
2 cents, grain of salt, opinions are like assh....
Chris Terek actually played pretty good at RG in the game.
Slightly taller, heavier and faster versionAlso you can’t tell me that Aeneas Williams isn’t the reincarnation of Kyren. The similarities are just so

I believe he was one of the members of Walk on NationWho was that in coverage?? He moved like molasses

IMO angeli needs to be backup for A&M then Carr becomes number 2 as season progresses getting snaps in prep for 2025This does feel like the most likely outcome - Angeli as a bridge to Carr at QB2, with Carr likely QB1 next season - but I still hope Minchey sticks at least for this season. I hear ya, but reality is if you NEED to go to your third qb to win games the season is probably already overThe big concern I have is say we lose Minchey this spring cuz he has no path to starting. That brings you down to three QBs heading to fall.
Then NEXT spring, you lose Leonard AND Angeli, leaving you Carr as the starter and frosh Duece on the roster.
I’m not sure how you avoid it. Fortunately we’ve been successful in the portal.
Agreed. This year u could probably still win some games with QB3. Versus not even having one is scary.I hear ya, but reality is if you NEED to go to your third qb to win games the season is probably already over

Makes sense, guy couldn't have been any faster than 4.8x in coverage. It was a 30yd TD and he ended up 10 yards behind him, I was like whoooa! No star Mick Brown the walk on from the Hamptons.
Jeter is definitely the top kicker. He left a 53 yarder short, but he was kicking to the north end and had a 25-30mph wind blowing straight at him. In the stadium it didn’t sound like he hit it very well, either.I didn't have time to watch the Spring Game. I also wasn't going to pay for Peacock to watch a Spring Game, but that's a whole different topic. I appreciate all the posters' writeups and breakdowns though. Out of curiosity, can anyone opine on a few of these players' play?
Bowen
Ausberry
Sevillano
How did the kicking game look? Do we have a clear number one at kicker?

Believe Ausberry snaps were at nickel (might be wrong) did look good tho.
Gray is a stud corner. Nuff said.
if ND secondary can stay healthy and if safety opposite X and the nickel settles in will be scary good.
Sevillano tossed center like a rag doll for sack. Impressive what I saw of him
Yep, but I think he probably moved better than most (including myself) expected. He was doing a good job running down and chasing runners around.Absolutely not trying to nitpick, but I've seen this in a couple of places. I don't think he tossed the guy, he just executed a nice swim move, which is still great! Just don't want people to have the expectation that Sevillano is going to be tossing OL around early in his career until we see more.
He DID look like he was moving and holding up well for how big he is, though. If he cuts just a bit of weight and keeps getting stronger, he's got the potential to be a real problem in the middle.

His quickness with that body was a wow for me. I didn't expect that at all. As the S&C team reshapes that body, he is going to be fun to watch.Yeah, I might have exaggerated that a bit when I first mentioned it a page or two back. It was definitely more of a swim, but it was beautiful. He completely beat his guy and then got to Carr quickly, there wasn't really anything CJ could do given how fast Sevillano was in the backfield.
I know I am still on an island here but I don't get the hype over Leonard. I hope I am wrong. Minchey does seem like the odd man out.
Just a tough, gritty, dual-athlete quarterback that can beat you either with his arm or feet. He's very "raw", but I think he'll have a great year if he can stay healthy. I think we'll need someone that's a running threat with this year's line too.I know I am still on an island here but I don't get the hype over Leonard. I hope I am wrong. I don't think you are on an island, I feel there is a few on here that feel that way. Regardless of how good he will actually be we will be in good hands with our backups this year.
Minchey will be very good, clearly he is just not there yet and needs more polishing.
