Angeli showed himself to be a great game manager and QB. He's not going to stretch the field like Carr and Minchey did, but he was smart and was great at moving the pocket as well as a few scrambles. He was very safe.

Carr looked to have the best arm and made some great passes. He's absolutely the future, he was impressive as an early enrollee.

Minchey had a couple really great drives, especially the one in the 2nd half where he made a couple longer throws to score. His 1st half wasn't very good other than one nice scoring drive. He struggled the most I felt, although the Gold team didn't have as many weapons as Blue did (Love, Greathouse, Raridon, Aneyas, etc). Minchey had a bad pick as well as a fumble. Payne had a couple fumbles too. I still think Love is our best back right now, but it makes sense that he's such a weapon we're getting him reps in the Slot. Minchey showed that he has wheels today. He wasn't bad, but he was probably the most inconsistent of the three. He seemed to stretch the field more than Angeli though.

If I had a depth chart based on today I'd put them Angeli 1st, Carr 2nd or even 1b, Minchey 3rd.

CJ Carr: What they promised us Crist, Kiel, Wimbush, Jurkovec and Buchner would become.

Which leads us to today's Million Dollar Question: Who replaces CJ... Hart or Grubbs?

I’ve got:
1) Carr
2a) Minchey
2b) Angeli

Michey’s got some underrated elusiveness. I felt like Angeli looked like the same dude he’s always been—which isn’t bad, but also isn’t that good. I also think Minchey still has a ton of upside whereas Angeli is what he is.

He was safe and managed the game very well I thought. He was comfortable in the pocket and had a good command of the offense. He didn't make a bunch of bad decisions, but he also hit a lot of check downs. Carr and Minchey stretched the field more I thought. That said, If I'm Denbrock and Leonard goes down or is struggling...I'm putting Carr in because he has a great arm and is probably the more dangerous QB. He's also clearly the future imo. If Angeli goes in I feel like we get a lot of what we've seen in previous years: defenses crowding the box and forcing you to throw further than 10 yards.

Angeli had the most stats today, so he's certainly no slouch. He moved the pocket well, he scrambled around a bit, he made great decisions. He's a very solid QB, but not a superstar. Carr was dynamic though. He was making some great passes on the move, he dropped a couple dimes further down the field, and he had some wheels. Super impressive for an early enrollee. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch.

Minchey did show his wheels a bit today, and a couple really nice passes in the 2nd half, but he also made some critical mistakes: the INT and the fumble. I don't think he's a bad QB at all, he put together two excellent drives, but he was definitely the most inconsistent. To be fair, Minchey didn't have nearly as many weapons as Angeli did to work with. Still, I'd put Angeli above Minchey for sure.

100%.

They're gonna lose 2 of Angeli, Minchey and Duece... maybe all 3.

Give CJ the rock and build for a title run with him, KVA and Young leading the team in 2026.

And nail down Hart and Rivers asap cuz one of them has to lead the 2028 National Champs.

I think Freeman might have brought in Leonard just to save us from how toxic all message boards and podcasts would have been about the QB battle between Carr, Minchey, and Angeli.

And then didnt let CJ look too good so we don’t scare Deuce off

Hey who was the centre that was making life difficult? I hope that was some freshman.

Okay, he is a freshman or at least 2 removed from starter so no worries. He has a bit of work to do.

Post-spring thoughts/hot takes?

The last college football games Angeli and Minchey play will be for other teams. Same goes for Deuce IF he signs... unless he switches to WR like McCulley from IU.

Sam Pendleton won't stick at center.

I was a little hesitant to be excited about Carr, solely due to the bad luck at QB over the past 5 years.

But holy crap he is a superstar in the making

Watching replay now in 2nd quarter. Still concerned about rolling Tosh Baker out as starting tackle. He got beat bad by Kobi Onyiuke who looked very quick coming off the edge. Carr looks like he can sling it downfield the few throws I've seen.

Just watched the spring game and here are some overreactions:

QB rankings:

1. Carr - he had 3-4 dropped balls, including the 4th down to go tie it up. KK dropped a 35-50 yard dime piece. Carr takes shots and reads defenses better than anyone else on the roster as an EE freshman. His upside is enormous. He made one very bad decision that could've been an INT. He had one errant pass that floated on him. Without the drops, his stat line would've been 18/19-23, 210+ yds and most likely another TD. His throws have touch, they have timing and he immediately sees the correct read most of the time.

2. Minchey - he made a couple bad decisions and he's also show touch and he takes shots. He's more likely to cost you a game if he takes too many chances but he can also win you a lot of games if he continues developing. Has big upside but appears more raw than Carr.

3. Angeli - he did some good things and took what the defense gave him. His one long throw really skewed his stats on a CB falldown which diminishes the throw but he took it. He also threw some odd passes and seemed more comfortable taking the checkdown. 1 or 2 of his passes that kept drives alive wouldn't resulted in him getting blown up but the defense was pulling up. I think he takes too long on some throws and that can be catastrophic in big games. I've been an Angeli fan but getting to see all 3 QBs rotating made it obvious that Angeli isn't capable of the same throws of the 2 QBs above.

The strongest move Freeman & Co could make would be naming Carr the backup. The time is now to get this guy seasoned. It'd be great if he got game reps in blowouts while you bring him along. We can't waste time with a talent like this. The 2nd best move would be elevating Minchey to back-up and Carr to 3rd but I don't know how you justify it.

I hate it, but I have a fear that Minchey will want a higher position on the depth chart and may look for greener pastures. If that happens, I think we'll get tired of seeing his stat lines on the ticker while watching ND games. Angeli is the safety pick and since ND isn't trying to win 4th place, it'd be best for ND's future if Carr & Minchey were moved ahead. This pains me, I really wanted Angeli to surprise everyone but Carr has waaaaaaayyyyyyy outplayed what I expected as EE freshman.

Of course, I've seen one practice (and the least important practice since it was the B&G game) but taking what we saw and combining it with what the beat has said, I think it's at least a fair appraisal.

2 cents, grain of salt, opinions are like assh....
