Hotels are pricing weekend of 20/21st like a football weekend with top choices fully booked. We usually get our lottery info on bowls a week or so before the end of the season and I expect this will be the same. I would be surprised if students get a full allotment which is criminal - keep the dorms open and let the students party like mofos post finals leading up to the playoff game.
The dorms are staying open until Sunday, and the finals schedule was already adjusted.

Conference championships are going away. Auto byes are going away. This year is a case study for both of these things just not working. Nobody in the SEC wants to go to the SEC champ. I doubt OSU or Oregon really want to go the the Big 10 champ either. And nobody from the Big 12 or ACC is top 4 worthy.
Maybe fans but I believe most players are wired differently. I wouldn’t cheer for a team where the players don’t want to win their conference championship. The alpha dogs don’t care what the cost of a loss may mean. They’re there to compete and win.

I would guess "alpha dogs" in the SEC and Big 10 want to win a national championship not a conference championship.

They want to win both.
I can't speak to what the players want, but it sure seems like the playoffs are going to de-emphasize conference championships. I get the auto byes are an incentive now, but my prediction is that will dissolve within 2 years. So by 2026 they will mean even less.

Ohh damn I didn’t realize finals were the week of the playoff game. That should help students stick around for the game. Im hoping to secure a ticket if I can pull it off when they go on sale to the general public

Hate to break it to you but hotels have been doing this for nearly a year. Fortunately I figured it out in January & was able to lock up multiple rooms at Ivy Court for $139/n.

If you're points-savvy, it's still possible to get rooms within a couple miles of campus for <$300/night

I mean, if ur guaranteed a playoff spot and you don’t have to play in ur conference championship, that’s win win right? I mean, PSU has it right, save the wear and tear and still get home field.

ND has it right too if they get home field.

I already told my wife if I can score a ticket I'm just using my cold weather gear and camping out.
Been a little bit since I've done true winter camping but I'll deal.

The more interesting conversation is what if we lose to Army and beat USC.

Would Army be a playoff team? Would we only drop a few spots? Quality loss, baby!
Army plays Navy week 16... which I believe is after the final rankings come out.

Youre nuts if you think they dont want to win conference championships. Any high level competitor wants to win every fucking game, every fucking time. There is no pecking order in the moment of where you’re feet are. Play game, win game. Play game, win game. Rinse repeat. Thats literally all there is. There is no room in the heart and mind for anything else.

I like our chances this year. College football isn't as top heavy this year as it normally is where there are 3 teams who are just so far ahead of the rest of the field. The talent gap from 1-12 is smaller than I can remember it in a long time.

Boys we are winning and MF Natty this year!!!!

Says the guy who's willing to risk his marriage on some college chicks lol
Lol but he's not wrong. I appreciate Te'o's mindset stuff, but thinking about it objectively...
Right now if you are Penn State, Indiana, Georgia, Ole Miss or Tennessee (or us if we were in the B1G/SEC), and you could choose between:

A: Traveling to a neutral site a week after your regular season ends to play a game in which you'd be an underdog, knowing that a loss either costs you first round homefield or knocks you out of the CFP entirely.
or
B: Getting an extra week of rest ahead of what in many cases would be a home playoff game in which you would be favored.

If your aim is to get in the playoffs and win playoff games (which is the main thing these major program coaches will be measured on now), I think a lot of people would choose B.

Colorado also got shelled by Nebraska who looks like they’re going to lost their last six games of the season after starting 5-1
Don't think CU is in the same category as the top echelon teams. The Big 12 is pretty weak this season and have been hurt by teams expected to be good in the conference (Utah, Okie State) being crap.

It's almost like Swarbrick was playing chess with his position for ND in the new CFP format, while everyone else was playing checkers.....

I believe they're a lot better than the paper tiger cougar that BYU was, that's for sure.

Despise how people cite these SOS metrics. Who gives a shit if you beat a bunch of mediocre Big 10 teams if you lose the only game against ranked competition? (Looking at you Texas and PSU).

maybe already asked but if our irish get to host a playoff game would NBC still do the game or would ABC/ESPN actually televise the game since all of the past four teams playoff games were done by them, would be weird seeing a home game not on NBC and some other network

Unfortunately, don’t think ND can get seeded any better than 6 with that logjam of B1G in the top 5.

Really need PSU to drop one of these last two, and maybe hope for a Michigan miracle against OSU
