Buchner 1.5, maybe 1.0b
? - He is nothing like Buchner.

14 TDs to 6 Interceptions.
1600 passing yards and only 140 rushing yards.

Not sure what you are saying here.

Now, I don't want him to be the next QB at ND, but he was having a good season.

It was moreso referencing his injury prone nature.

This is a latest top CFB QB list - Brady Cook is #26 on the list. I wonder if TJ Finley will be a graduate after finishing the last year with Texas State. He enrolled January '20 so would have enough time if he was focused on school AND he's #16 on the list! Would love to have him and his OC join The Irish!

Give me another 1 year rental. MF knows the potential in this team. Angelli is not a playoff power 5 starter and will hold the team back. Then we have a true QB competition in 2025 with Minchey and Carr. (Will gladly eat crow if Angelli proves me wrong)

So MF doesn't take a proven journeyman QB transfer, and Angeli and Minchey are not good and we win only 8 or 9 games in 2024???

MF will be taking a transfer QB.

I think it's inevitable they'll look. It just depends "who" they can snag. You're going to see them side step this QU until they get serious interest back and that will take a while. Saying they're going to the portal then finding no one better than Minchey is a lose all around.

Sampson proposed Will Howard from K State. How would we feel?
Haven't watched him enough to feel anything specifically but that's the sort of guy we should be targeting. Multi-year P5 starter with one year left on the clock. If, say, Minchey gradually overtakes him, that's great. But you'd go into the season with a QB who's been around the block a few times, which is huge.

I can see how this makes sense. Sampson makes a good case for it.

It has to be somebody that is going to get all the reps and needs another year of college ball. Howard checks those boxes. He's splitting time right now with Avery Johnson.

Sampson pointed out that Klein is Howard's OC, and with that, the ND offense should be a good fit for him.

Interesting name. He is from PA originally. Currently losing snaps to Avery Johnson.

Maybe he comes to ND and eventually starts losing snaps to Kenny Minchey... which in my opinion is the strongest reason for a transfer QB. Increases competition and if the QB's on the current roster are good enough to win 10+ games, they should be good enough to win the competition.

If you want someone just to compete and bring experience but not be a clear favorite to start, that would be a will howard type. He's going to be splitting time or losing out to Johnson. My point, he's not good enough to be the every game starter at K State. This would be an experience/depth move, not a needle mover.

Pratt/Leonard are the two that would be clear starter next year.

Wasn't the story that Klein didn't mesh with the QB room when they considered him in the offseason?

If we do get a transfer QB, won’t Angeli leave?
If not Minchey as well. Seems like next year is his window to earn the starting roll before Carr and Knight arrive. Take away that window and he might look for opportunities elsewhere.

I think we should roll with Minchey, personally. The talent is there, and the schedule is fairly forgiving next year. Texas A&M is struggling, FSU graduates like EVERYBODY, and USC will be losing Williams and maybe their HC. Our legit hardest game may be Louisville and we get them at home in week 5 after playing Miami (OH). At some point, we need to start internally developing QBs (and I have a lot more faith in us doing so with Gino at QB Coach than Rees) or we're going to be hurting in the recruitment arena.

Texas A/M's "best recruting class in history" turn Juniors next year. That's pay day, I'm not discounting them as much as others. I think that will be an imcredibly tough game.

Sure, and I guess I don't mean to say that Texas A&M is bad. They've got a ton of talent, absolutely. But they have a lot of issues going on behind the scenes that really are hampering that talent from doing anything. Texas A&M is one of the princes of doing less with more, in my opinion.

Post COVID year (which was admittedly a very good 9-1 for them, but that whole year was funky), they've gone 8-4, 5-7, and now are currently 4-3. Their offense looks worse than ours and I would be surprised if they don't have at least another 3 losses left, considering they play SCar, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and LSU still. (With one body bag game before LSU)

Despite A&M's close losses to good teams, they are still 15 in FPI. Weigman looked very good to start the year, and as mentioned above, the greatest recruiting class of all time will be juniors. Even with Jimbo's incompetence, they should be a top 10 team, if not a CFP contender.

Not an environment you want Angeli / Minchey getting their first start in

I agree with you about A&M IF there isn't serious attrition in the portal this year for them. They lost 31 this past year including a few of the headliners from that 2022 class and only replaced them with 13 players via transfer (only a few proving to be impact transfers).
