Anyone have thoughts on the Bears OL pick? They clearly valued him over other prospects at the position who graded out higher. Is this just "same old Bears" or is there reason to be happy with this pick?

Steelers taking a legacy player to begin round 2??

Would make a lot of sense. Kinda hope they trade back with a QB needy team, but I’d be happy with JPJ.

I’m really happy with the Broderick Jones picks and surprises they still have a chance to get Porter Jr at 32.

Is Pittsburgh so sold on Pickett they won't take a flyer on Levis?

Consensus best RT in the draft. He’s been hyped ever since he locked down Will Anderson this past season. An absolutely massive human being.

The GM and Assistant GM were lieutenants that helped build the two teams that were just in the Super Bowl. Their first draft a year ago yielded more rookie snaps played than any team in the NFL. I don't think it's the same old Bears just yet, but time will tell. The previous front offices have nothing to do with these guys. They hired their own coaches, they have found a QB (they did not draft) and they're trying to build something the right way (they were young, competitive, but kept losing in 2022).

They already have their LOT and last night they got their ROT who is a massive human that got his game together last year in Heupel's crazy spread offense. Watch his snaps against Alabama. He was a five star recruit who played LOT, ROT and ROG in the SEC. He's strong and sturdy. Get in the phone booth with him and you're toast. This is not a player who has peaked, which many college players do.

Jalen Carter didn't pass the test for them so they're going with another OL asset to protect THE asset that is QB1 Justin Fields. Is there reason to be happy? Yes. Obviously, nothing is 100% sure, but if he stays healthy and puts in the work he should be fine.

What the Bears do the rest of the weekend is going to be key. More vital than last night in a lot of ways.

It's almost time for the Niners to shine, gotta stay up late to enjoy this draft but the rings are worth it.

You can make the argument that tonight is more important for the Bears with 53, 61, and 64. If only the Bears could have held on to their original 2nd rounder in the Claypool trade.

Poles may yet make more moves before this year's draft is over. Who knows.

I'm telling you, nothing gives me more hope that the two dudes running this thing helped build the Chiefs and Eagles to what they are right now. That's huge. Ryan Pace worked his way up the ladder with New Orleans, but everything going on there had way more to do with Payton and Brees above all the other things that franchise was doing, positive or negative. I know Pace and I like him, but Nagy and Trubisky ended up ruining him. Keep in mind how Watson ended up and that other teams passed on Mahomes as well. It just did not work out for him and that was the epicenter of how his tenure ended.

No one will ever be worse than Mark Hatley.

I like the NW kid but a versatile guard is much less of a need than locking down their other tackle spot (for the Bears).

Bears have picks 53, 61 and 64 - must really like that late second round talent stack out there. Another nice stack of four picks b/w 103 and 148 for some 4th/5th round love. I like it, plenty of picks so you can take some shots at higher ceilings with question marks while also taking best available types that inevitably fall in the second round. Plenty of capital to move up if they see something juicy too.

100% on Cunningham and Poles. It's almost that we have 2 GMs in the front office considering Cunningham will be leading a club in 1-2 years. Wouldn't be surprised if we trade up today for an interior guy.

Interesting to hear your take on Pace... I've heard conflicting stories about him

A couple days ago I was listening to some pre-draft coverage stuff on ESPN and heard something uber interesting regarding Wright. In games against Bama, UGA, and LSU he didn't give up a single pressure.

They need a DT. Passing Carter doesn't change that.

He worked his way up the Saints organization and interviewed well with the Bears.

The Bears probably do what they can to get their best remaining 3 tech since the Bears beat won't shut up about how the 3 is the engine of Eberflus' defense.

I’m pretty confident Pittsburgh trades out of 32, which makes JPJ to Pitt unlikely. But trading back is the smart move.

Picking an OT is the most professional, adult move they could have done, and have done in awhile.

I REALLY wanted Carter at 9, and initially thought they pussed out and traded the pick to save face because the Bears seem to never reach for anyone with character issues, but today I’m ok with it.

Correct. An ROT. They have the LOT already. I like this guy at OT versus Skoronski.

You think they trade up to try and get Benton?
Maybe. He's pretty versatile and could play multiple spots in multiple schemes.

The kid from Florida and kid from Baylor are really big space eaters but they are not as skilled as Carter.

I agree and I do hope they do move back a few picks and grab some middle round picks to fill in the 160ish pick gap they have between their third rounder and seventh round picks.

I’m not sold on Joey Porter Jr. Seems like a lot of people think he may be a walking pass interference machine in the NFL since his change of direction seems to be below average and he’s grabby. He also only had 1 int his whole college career. I’m not sold on him at all and think a lot of Pittsburgh fans are blinded by his name.

I’m fine with them moving down, getting a mid round pick and then grabbing a guy like Benton from Wisconsin on the D line and a CB like Brents or Stevenson.

Mayer to the Colts at the 4th pick of the 2nd would be HUGE. TE is a need…

If you look at commonalities between Peyton and Luck, they both had all-pro TEs to begin their careers. Not to mention how Steichen utilized TEs in Philly.
I would love to see it, but WR and CB are bigger needs. If Reich were still HC, I could see it, because he relied on a good blocking TE and it was obvious what Jack Doyle brought to the table after he retired.
