O'Malley posted on the board that he left the team for personal reasons at home. But, he responded "no", when someone asked if it was permanent.

I said this day would come. Al Washington getting credit for Elston's guys. Here it comes.

Man, I don't read that article in that way at all. I read Washington praising the leadership qualities of the older guys in the D-Line room. Did Elston recruit those guys? Sure. Have they developed their leadership qualities post Elston? Yes. But nothing in that article came off as credit being given to Washington for that growth (although it wouldn't be unfair if it were).

Notre Dame’s defensive line has seen a nice stretch of NFL-caliber players come through in recent years, but it’s been a few years since the room has highlighted its chemistry and brotherhood.

No, it’s not saying there were issues or the room wasn’t close in the past as that wouldn’t be accurate. Yet, the 2019 season with Khalid Kareem, Daelin Hayes, Ade Ogundeji, Jamir Jones, Kurt Hinish and Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa was the last year where there was an incredibly close bond one could easily feel.

Enter Al Washington’s 2023 defensive line.
It's not Washington's quotes or the players. It's Matt Freeman's inference with how the article starts.

Elston coined the term "For the Brotherhood". Yet, it's been a few years since the room highlighted it's chemistry and brotherhood. It was plastered all over their room, social media, and embedded in everything they did including recruiting guys for that brotherhood, lol.

Says the guy writing the article. Not anyone actually in the room.

Was that Tyree at the end? Looked like a #2 but hard to tell.

Man.....I'm trying to temper these expectations....

I thought was Tyree at first. At the end of the clip, you see #2 (Tyree) celebrating with him. I believe that was Payne catching a dump off from Hartman.

Big Price fan here but Payne has looked very good in all the clips I’ve seen. Seems like he’s solidly in that #2 spot at the present.

I don’t want to speak out of school, but Payne has been really good.
But everyone wants Price to be that guy & Love is the shiny new toy.
Payne is just the old school college running back. Hits the hole, drives his feet through tacklers, catches the ball, blocks in pass pro. He isn’t fancy, but is very, very effective and reliable.

Payne is Diggs. They’re almost the same running back lol.

Payne might have a little more juice, whereas Diggs had a little more make-you-miss (similar to Kyren).

It’s been a good pipeline.

It was Tyree #2 who caught the pass towards the end.

It remains to be seen. Slot receivers never made a big impact in the Kelly era and Rees continued that tradition last year. With a 2nd year HC and a new OC, the slot receiver might have a bigger role. It doesn’t hurt that Hartman likes throwing him the ball.
Hitting the slot on quick slants is tough when your QB lacks height to see over the line.

Any news about players making a move up thr depth charts
Sounds like Spindler may be ahead of Kristofic now. Schrauth seems to be competing with Wagner for the other guard spot, but I think it'll be Schrauth in the end.

Also sounds like Rubio and Onye are going to be considerably bigger parts of the DT rotation than we may have anticipated.

I think major moves are minimal because this team has such a veteran presence. The following are what I’ve read/heard from podcasts:

-Brenan Vernon sounds to be a pleasant surprise. He’s in great shape. Sounds like he was overweight/out of shape most of last year. I don’t think he was mentally right eeither. The word to describe him seems to be “violent.” There’s a reason he was so highly ranked
-drayk Bowen sounds like he knows the defense and will play in spots
- Rudolph seems to have focused on spindler a lot. This is almost to the chagrin of Prister. He rags on Rocco a lot. I want to see him succeed almost to spite him
- jaden greathouse will be too good to keep off the field. A better tj jones is the word

Haven’t really heard a lot about Harper or Carter. I think those will be ones to check back on after the open practice this week

I remember when Vernon was a big get for ND when he committed. It seems like recruiting sites forgot about him.

Nice story on Vernon and I like the quote by Na Na: Brennan Vernon is one of the most violent freshmen I've ever seen come through here — like, of all time," said Osafo-Mensah:

From a fans perspective & no disrespect to Kristofic, but I want to see Rocco beat him out and get a starting spot.

Schrauth had a really good spring and he went out of the B&G game glad it wasn't serious and nice to see the youngness in he & Wagner competing for a starting spot.

Thank god Rico didn't go to usc.

I saw a story (maybe with 247 Josh Pate) that in order for ND to have a great season that Greathouse & Rico or one of them had to have a breakout season.

I disagree that they need to have a "breakout" season, but get them on the field so they are better for next season & have a bigger role. I think both will see PT. We saw what Greathouse did with Hartman at the B&G game. Our WR's are going to benefit big with having Hartman as our QB this year.

I think the experiment with Wagner at guard recently is just an eye for future potential. There’s no way they are going to start a 288lb guard. He’s at least a year away from a potential starting role.

Agreed. With Thomas/Tyree/Colzie/Merriweather we don't need the freshmen to walk in and start. But we do probably need them to be able to contribute. Fortunately Greathouse and Rico look like they could.
