I expected to lose, I expected to lose by a lot. I didn't expect the worst stat line imagineable.
I can't think of a position where the ND player is even close to competitive with his MU counterpart. Rebuilding NDMBB is a multi-year project. MU is where ND goes with the rosiest of projections at the end of that rebuild.

Damn Marquette is good. Experienced .

On a positive;
This team rebounds and boxes out better than any ND team in years.
If there’s one player to start a rebuild with on the court I’d take Burton.

I don’t think they quite knew what to expect in those first ten minutes. They’ve honestly looked fine since and have demonstrated some great ball movement with only a few sloppy turnovers mixed in.

Outside what’s been mentioned, it’s striking how good their mid range game is even if it’s analytically not the best shot

Well those first 10 minutes were nasty but outside of that I’d say I’m pretty pleased for the most part. Seems like they learned a whole lot from start to finish in some aspects. Competed the whole way. Not easy to do with a young team. That’s culture.

Yea, it's not easy to take positives away from a big loss, but I will say that this team is coached to show hustle that's for sure. Sometimes defense doesn't even look great but the kids move and hustle their asses off which is great to see. You can only hope that as this group gets older and some more help on the bench they can take a big step forward.

Marquette took the foot off our neck towards the end of the first half. They could have beaten us by 50 if they wanted to. Inexperience and lack of continuity were wildly exploited. We could barely get it over half court and couldn't hardly get desperation shots off before the shot clock. I did like seeing Shrewsberry (coach) rotating a lot of players in and was coaching them up as kids came in from the slaughter for a few minutes. Just a haphazard scoobie doo chase scene all night.

Marquette can go deep in the tourney if not the whole way, Shaka will have them better in March than they are in early December which is somewhat frightening. At least we covered the 21 point spread and did not beat the previous worst loss (26) which irritated a few Marquette fans that still think we are some type of rivalry after 120 bouts.

Getting blown off the floor at home by The Citadel, a team with 3 grad students (including old friend Elijah Morgan) and everyone else is a freshman or sophomore. Awesome.

They can give all the effort they want and will still struggle.....They just don't have anyone that can shoot.

Apparently Shrewsberry said in his presser after the game that if the kids don't find a way to play harder, he's going to compliance to find a way for them to transfer.

I know we all expected a rough year. But he isn't taking it lying down and I love it. I don't know when ND will be back to competing for conference championships, but I do fully believe he will get us there consistently. I do not hold 2023/2024 season against him.

Does the Citadel even give basketball scholarships? That’s f’ing embarrassing. Side note: those cadets were always so annoying when I lived in Charleston.

Shrews gave up with 9 mins remaining in the game down 15. Knew something was up. Terrible game of basketball last night by the Irish.

Holy shit. The fellas are up 24 with under six to go in the game. Shrews really lit a fire under their asses with his comments after Citadel. UVA was 10-2. Will be a signature win for this group.

Edit: He also shook the lineup up with Lil Shrews not starting. Good for Big Shrews.

Braeden didn't start against Marist either, and they only won by 4. The difference is they made shots this game.

I don’t think it’s weird to say. I don’t care whether it’s elementary, varsity, collegiate, or you’re Doc Rivers—it’s hard to sit your kid on the bench, especially when they’ve reached the starting lineup. Nothing more than that.

He took him out of the starting lineup after the first 3 games of the season and he made a spot start against Citadel. Him not starting had nothing to do with the teams performance today. Not to mention he’s called him out by name in a press conference I don’t think he has a problem with it.
