247 implemented a new feature today where crystal balls are paired with ratings of how confident they are 1-10. Some takeaways:

- The Irish CBs for Spindler seem more confident than the Michigan ones. Trieu's CB for Michigan is only a 1. https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Rocco-Spindler-at-Clarkston-208834/CurrentExpertPredictions/

-Loy's Titus CB is a 7 https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitu...mes-Campbell-232843/CurrentExpertPredictions/

- People are pretty confident about Colzie to UGA https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitu...hens-Academy-213610/CurrentExpertPredictions/

- Wiltfong things Josh Moore to Stanford is a lock https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Josh-Moore-at-Marist-School-231167/CurrentExpertPredictions/

.9817 4* Donovan Edwards
.9777 4* LJ Johnson
.8735 3* Logan Diggs
.8703 3* Alton McCaskill

Loy mentioned these 4 in the video. He thinks ND’s got a shot with Edwards and that they might be outside top 5 but they could be gaining ground as he’s been in Zoom calls with BK, Rees and Taylor. LJ Johnson is definitely gonna be recruited hard but the question is being late to the game. I think for Johnson it’ll be either A&M, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma or Stanford and ND. He’s a high academic kid so we’ll have to see if he’s going for academics or going for football with a side of academics. Loy and Sinclair like Diggs and McCaskill but obviously I’m hoping for one of Edwards or Johnson.

Saw yesterday Gabe Brooks (the Texas/OK regional guy) CB'd Johnson to A&M.

*** Peroni & Wiltfong followed suit. Confidence in the 6-7 range.

I got the feeling he had already told the services so they can produce his commitment stories/videos

Josh Moore committed to play Safety at Stanford

Loy had mentioned he thinks it’s concerning for Michigan that they’ve recruited Edwards for so long and he hasn’t committed. He thinks it’s telling that he’s not committed to Michigan and he wanted to stay in state he would’ve already. Food for thought

https://www.si.com/college/notredame/recruiting/notre-dame-on-the-verge-of-excellent-cornerback-class

1) Close On Spindler — I don’t see a path to an elite class that doesn’t include Spindler, who was once considered a lock to pick Notre Dame. The Irish are still in great position, but there is more closing needed now than there was a month ago, and the staff needs to put the full court press on Spindler to ensure he gets into the class.
2) Recruit Nolan Rucci HARD — Notre Dame trails Clemson, Penn State and Wisconsin for the five-star offensive tackle, and the Irish are finally getting around to putting on the full-court press. If Notre Dame is going to overcome the three programs ahead of it at this time the staff needs to come up with a new strategy with Rucci. That strategy needs to involve Rucci becoming priority number one for not only Quinn, but offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and head coach Brian Kelly as well. Irish Illustrated recently reported that Rucci was on the phone with Kelly recently, and I’m going to avoid going down the path of focusing on why this hasn’t happened sooner. The reality is, at this point what matters is what the staff does moving forward. Kelly, Rees, Quinn, and everyone else affiliated with the program must develop a strategy that does everything it can within the rules to get Rucci into the class. What they have been doing up to this point has them within striking distance, but still trailing other programs. More is needed, and it’s going to be hard to make that happen without Kelly and Rees making Rucci a top - and frequent - priority. Landing Spindler and Rucci won’t be easy, but if the staff adds those two to the class that already has Fisher and Patrick Coogan then Notre Dame is back to being on pace for an elite class. Missing out on either one puts the Irish behind again.
3) Don’t Quit — Notre Dame will need to do something it often doesn’t do, and that is recruit committed players and other prospects they are way behind.
Let’s be honest, if Wyatt Milum or Trey Zuhn committed to Notre Dame, other programs wouldn’t stop recruiting them. Notre Dame missed a golden opportunity in the 2020 class when it failed to stay on Jimmy Christ after he committed to Virginia. Christ ultimately flipped to Penn State. Players like Milum and Zuhn need to remain targets, Milum especially. Not prioritizing Milum more prior to his West Virginia commitment was a mistake in my view. I graded Milum out as an even better prospect than Landon Tengwall, who was part of the staff’s early “dream class,” and prioritizing Tengwall was a double whammy because they not only missed on him (he picked Penn State), the late push on Milum also cost them a chance to land him. Notre Dame needs to not take no for an answer and really grind with a prospect like Milum. The same thing is true when it comes to players like five-star Tommy Brockermeyer and Top 100 standout Tristan Leigh, two elite-level prospects. Notre Dame isn’t even close to being in the ball game with those payers, but they need to have the dog mentality that top recruiting staffs have, and that is never backing down and never backing off. That is something that hurts the Irish staff in many ways, not just offensive line recruiting, and that’s a big issue that will be addressed down the road. But there’s time to fix that, and fixing that will be the difference between Notre Dame having a decent line class or an elite line class. And when you are the University of Notre Dame, two straight line classes that fall short on numbers and/or talent is unacceptable.

Driskell coming in hot.. Short summary of bold “STOP BEING LAZY, OTHER STAFFS AREN’T”

Not sure about the BD hate lately. I think his podcasts have been pretty good, especially with the hire of Vince Dedario (sp).

Driskell is a tool and hard to take serious.

While I think the staff could do more, I'm reluctant to agree with anything in this exact post just based on the source.

This.

And this is just one example of Driskell trying to connect dots that don't exist. They didn't go back after Christ because they were going after interior prospects. Hence they went back after Monheim and Skoronski. So it's lazy that they didn't go after Christ but no credit that they did for the two other guys. Seems like that's convenient to fit a narrative.

It had nothing to do with being lazy. They just wanted a different skillset. This is where he tries to keep making 'points' and he's just wrong. Hard to take guy seriously that can't even comprehend that or chooses not too.

The staff recruits committed players all the time. This notion that they don't because it's not made public or Driskell doesn't know about it, is as stupid as some of his opinions.

He's trying to be controversial for a reason.

I'm gonna kinda side with pump here on one aspect of BD in that his podcasts are more honest than anything else's I've heard + the additions of DeDario and Brian Smith are big time.

Speaking of Smith, he mentioned that he felt it wasn't over with Milum if ND is working vigorously working the back channel. He was surprised at how quickly it went from ND in a great place to him committing to WV.

Now I got to jump on Lucky's side and agree that bitching about Christ is silly. You got a better Christ in Baker and then when Christ went elsewhere, he got the most athletic OT available. Carmody's not 6-7.5 but he's at least 6-5.5 and the best basketball level athlete on the squad, that includes Baker & Kristofic. So just because you missed on Christ, it doesn't mean you missed at the position.

Lastly, in regards to having two down classes... Numbers are good with just 4 in the class if it works out with

Fisher
Coogan
Spindler
Bounds or a Bounds type (Bennett Pitcher / Logan Taylor)

I'd also be working the backdoor with Milum, Eli Sutton (UNC) and Troy Zuhn (A&M) if Fatherlee commits there and takes his LT of the future spot.

BTW... did you guys see Davidkov is up to #56 OA on 247? He owes Quinn a big Thank You for passing on him otherwise he's be #248 right now.

So I was thinking of sort of posting position groups and what they look like for 2021 in recruiting. Thought it would be informative to hear from different people on who ND is in it for and who they are going after and who they'd go after if needing to cast a wider net. QB is done and easy so I'll put RB right behind it.

QB (1)
0.9836 4 CA Tyler Buchner ND
0.9608 4 TX Preston Stone SMU

2021 Roster (3)
RS SO Brendon Clark
RS FR Drew Pyne
FR Tyler Buchner

Amazing. Fantastic. Best QB in the class IMO even though he's #6 in the composite rankings of all QB's. Either way, he's a big time talent and perfect timing for him to come in and compete right away. Gonna be a really interesting competition to watch in summer and fall of 2021 to see who the QB will be.

RB (1)
0.9892 5 TX Camar Wheaton
0.9886 5 VA TreVeyon Henderson OSU
0.9871 4 NC Will Shipley CLEM
0.9818 4 MI Donovan Edwards
0.9779 4 TX LJ Johnson
0.9474 4 GA Lovasea Carroll UGA
0.9297 4 OH Corey Kiner LSU
0.9116 4 CA Prophet Brown
0.8735 3 LA Logan Diggs
0.8703 3 TX Alton McCaskill

2021 Roster (6)
RS SR Jafar Armstrong
RS SR Avery Davis
RS JR Jahmir Smith
RS JR C'Bo Flemister
RS SO Kyren Williams
SO Chris Tyree

So I don't think there's any way Avery Davis is around and I'd probably bet money that either Jafar, Jahmir, CBo or Kyren will be gone as well. Too many upperclassman bodies and I think you could see Jafar go pro like many ND 5th year RB's. For recruiting, Shipley was a big blow, but hopefully ND could come through this with Edwards or Johnson. If not, McCaskill and Diggs are nice pieces. Any shot at Prophet Brown still? Would love to get 3 straight cycles of 4* RB's

Smallish private Catholic school in the Twin Cities, right in my neck of the woods. My uncle played there and once upon a time had a scholarship offer from a one Dan Devine in 1979.

I guess his Dad John Alt, played at Iowa. Kansas City chose him in the first round of the ’84 NFL Draft and he played for the Chiefs until ’96.

Matt Freeman from ISD mentioned that he believes we hold a slight lead for WR target Jayden Thomas but that we most likely can't secure a lead or commitment without a visit.

Not sure he has a profile.

I imagine Abiara is as good as gone but I thought it was still likely they’d take 4 dudes along the DLine anyway. Maybe Bollers is a straight up replacement for Abiara but I thought they’d take two DE’s with Onye being the swing guy who could ultimately end up inside.

I don't think this offer goes out if Abiara was solid. A good but bizarre update over the weekend, from BGI, regarding Abiara. I think it's 3 + 1 if that 1 is a guy they really want. Don't see that at the present.

Top 6 (before ND & PSU offers): Alabama, Cal, Iowa St, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin

He’d been to Nebraska and Wisconsin a ton from his twitter feed it looks like. Good news is he’s been to ND before and he’s not that far away (less than 5 hour drive). Hopefully they can get some traction. He’s got Northwestern and Cal in his top 6 which bodes well for academics.
