You shouldn't want "everyone back" if you want to upgrade the roster. Most of those guys have stopped improving and should move on to allow the minutes to go to younger players.

Ryan is the only senior who is, in my opinion, a must have for next year. Goodwin is probably still in your top 5. The others are not. I say go with the freshmen (Starling and Luben) and JRK with Wesley and Ryan.

If Atkinson cannot get another year we need a grad transfer big in a big way.

I can't keep up
Do people want Brey?
Or not want Brey?
Lol you guys
Don't want Brey.

But I'm in the group of people who think the program needs to be reset entirely and make the moves necessary to make it a national program. If Villanova, Virginia, and Gonzaga can be national powerhouses....Notre Dame can do more.

When the football team travels to California to end the season in Los Angeles or the Bay Area...why can't the basketball team accompany them to play Stanford or USC/UCLA? If it's good for football recruiting, doesn't the same logic apply for basketball? Notre Dame should be playing more games in New York City and Chicago, too. Or maybe create an arrangement with Georgetown to get annual exposure in DC and play them in Chicago when its Notre Dame's turn to host.

From what everyone says, Brey is not a great recruiter. The program could do more to be in the fight for every qualified kid who goes to a Big East school, at a minimum.

Haven't seen a lot of Texas Tech but they certainly didn't look like a 3 seed last night. While our defense was strong, their offense was a mess.
They are one of the best defensive teams in the entire country. They are #7 overall in scoring defense and ranked 2nd in team defensive efficiency, which helps explain a lot of our struggles offensively yesterday. They have big, athletic forwards that can guard you on the perimeter and make your life tough on the block, which is why Atkinson was basically neutralized last night.

I think they're going to give Duke a good run for their money this week.

Really, really excited about next year's team. Anything worse than a Sweet 16 appearance would be a pretty big disappointment.

Mock draft on ESPN has Wesley going 20th...to Pop and the Spurs
Fanboys post he's not ready-look at the games-he IS not ready.
But if the NBA says he's a first round draft choice, it doesn't matter-he gone.
And the scribes who do these mock draft aren't making it up, they are getting their info from NBA people.

I want Ryan and Goodwin back for the wing depth. Starling, Goodwin/Ryan, Wesley at the 1-2-3 with Goodwin or Ryan first off the bench seems like a great setup. Develop Sanders and JR into the rotation and now we're cooking. I'd gladly take Atkinson back if possible

But, I'm with you (i think) in that I think Hubb should go.

I think Goodwin is a lock to start next year.

I'm sorry but there's just no way anyone who watched him in the past month should think he's an NBA ready prospect.

Suspect jump shot, below average free throw shooter and struggles to finish at the rim, all things he can improve upon before taking his talents to the league.

He is a fantastic athlete and a plus defender, just needs to hone in some of the skills offensively.

800 pound gorilla here - who TF is working the paint next year against to keep UNC under 100 points? Back to the days of double digit OReb for the opposition. I do not have faith in Atkinson's return but even if he does you can't have one PF/C on the roster and thrive in the ACC. Also translates poorly to the more physical play of NCAA tourney.

I just don't see Brey cutting people. Most of these guys should be back next year plus the three they have coming in. I don't anticipate them signing any other recruits this cycle. Like it or not it's what you're going to get come 2022/23.

I'm guessing most college basketball coaches wished big men grew on trees, but they don't, and if they did I'm guessing some Christian groups and politicians would have serious issues with it.

Hopefully Atkinson does get a waiver from the Ivy League but I agree, I wouldn't hold my breath and you can't hold out for hope in planning for 2022-2023. And based on the limited action we've seen from Zona, that's not a viable option. But I do think you can count on Nate coming back.

There's plenty of options in the transfer portal at PF and C, but who knows if they'd be a good fit. Quick glance shows 10 or so 4 star recruits who are looking for a move. Lot of unanswered questions, though, I agree.

I think if Elijah Taylor can get on the floor he could be quite the banger/ rebounder underneath. Lacks ideal height as he's only 6'8 but he always struck me as a physical and athletic prospect.

He can hone his skills in the G league.

there’s a difference between “cutting people “ and asking someone who’s graduated back for a post graduate year.
We have no obligation to bring guys back who aren’t getting better

I generally agree with this. 65% free throw shooter and I’m supposed to think teams will gamble on him in the first round?

Purdue and Gonzaga seem to find those guys all the time.

Agree. Needs to put on some more muscle and strength to be able to finish at the line better.

I liken him to Ivey. He was wise to come back for a year and it's paid big dividends as he's projected to go top 5.

Jaden Ivey is projected as a top 5 pick after an up and down freshman year last year. Could easily see Blake going in the lottery with another year.

Watching Blake’s body language the last couple games, you know HE KNOWS he isn’t ready.

If NBA personnel guys are talking as he's certain to go in the first round, I'm not sure how you pass that up. Some guys will "bet on themselves" and say I'm coming back to try to improve draft position and hone skills. Maybe that happens. On the flip side, maybe they slip to the second round or worse as there is more time to observe the warts.

True.

That said, I wouldn't be bitching about the lack of depth or player rotation next year if that's the hill you choose to die on.

He's an explosive, athletic wing that doesn't have a three point shot. He's Larry Hughes right now at best.

However, if he's projected to go round one between 10-20, it's going to be tempting.

And they're basketball schools.
Because they are not Brey Schools.

Mark Few? Matt Painter?

ND has a successful woman's program.
the head coach is former champion Niele Ivey
Where does her son, Jaden play?
Yep, Purdue and Matt Painter.

that is a rather eloquent statment by Niele and Jaden

Well these mock drafts aren't made out of thin air. They'd developed by writers who get their info from NBA people. They draft potential and use the G league to develop young players. So believe it.

Everyone beyond the top 6-12 guys is a gamble.

I wonder how many different ways the phrase "Jaden Ivey wanted to leave home for college" can be written and still have people trying to pass his decision to go to Purdue off as some sort of indictment of Brey.

You think Niele thinks Brey isn't a good coach? And let's not go nuts on Painter, here. He is a good coach but he's been to 1 E8 and that's it. Now I picked them to win it all this year but let's wait until it happens (or doesn't).
