Any word on how Nana looks?

Very curious how his career developments..."super recruit" turned "three star" tells me he might be hungry to show that he was worth the early high ranking

Not much on his play, pretty limited reps for the young DE's. But, he's put on some decent weight and is lining up at both Drop and SDE, with more reps coming at SDE recently. Expectation is they get him some game action but ultimately a RS.

I read somewhere - Pete Sampson Q&A maybe? - that he’s getting a lot of reps, just not really making a splash. I guess that’s better than not getting the reps. Either way, we seem pretty locked in at safety with Elliott and Gilman. But would be bode well for the future if he and Hamilton can emerge as solid second-stringers by fall.

Hopefully he looks at the way Elliot took a few years but then clicked and uses that as encouragement.

FWIW, II has said that his inaccuracy is much more comparable to Ian Book early than Wimbush.

not sure i ever heard that ian's short/intermediate accuracy was sketchy.
and i've heard PJ is better long than short, which i've never about book lol.

Yeah. "5 star Phil" has a nice ring to it, but I'm starting to think thats all it'll be good for.

i haven't lost faith yet, but he sure doesn't seem to be the can't miss no brainer he was earlier.

I’m beginning to think the ramifications of missing out on Graham Mertz are going to be far worse than we originally thought. If Cade McNamara hadn’t committed, Mertz might be on campus right now.

If Buchner ends up being the real deal, not worried. At worse, we have Book 19-20, and in 21 will have Pyne and Clark with at least a year in school, or straight to the Buchner years.

If Book plays as well or better the next two years, as he did last, I'd be overjoyed. And If Buchner is a truly elite guy, I'm perfectly fine going true frosh. Long time to go before that lol.

So in his 1st spring in the program Phil isn't more accurate than Book... therefore he is Wimbush part 2? Seems legit.

I would just hope that a QB that came in with so much promise could do better than 4/8 in a 7v7 drill. A drill that requires the bare minimum of reading defenses and you know you won’t be getting hit.

I know it’s Spring ball and I know I’m critiquing what an analyst said, but reviews of him haven’t been that crazy for a while no. It doesn’t get much more basic than 7v7, so I’m a little disappointed with that.

I’m just tired of the endless cycle of underachieving Notre Dame quarterbacks with a good one sprinkled in every 5-7 years. I hope Book, Phil, and whoever else stops that trend.

This. And I'd just add his OL consists of 4 guys that should be in HS right now, plus a 275 lb Cole Mabry. I'm sure that group is holding up real well against our backup DL, lol.

Also PJ is going to have some quality fast guys to throw to with his strong arm while Wimbush had big guys with snails pace so his main asset was under utilised.

And depending on who’s charting you trust, ISD had his WR’s/TE’s down for 4-5 drops. That’s a lot when you only have 20-30 7on7 and 11on11 reps for a day.

starting to get a Wimbush vibe from PJ.

Direct quote from Pete Sampson’s Q&A on The Athletic yesterday:

“I just want to make this clear. What Phil Jurkovec is working through mechanically is not in the same ball park as Brandon Wimbush. We're not seeing the same spraying of the ball from Jurkovec.”

Ian Book will be an AA quality QB who cannot be beaten out by a comparative rookie.

Phil Jurkovec will be an AA quality QB in his turn.

IE negativist commentary will be continually world class regardless of year.

So, the media has been to three practices now I believe...?

After the first practice, media feedback was that Phil had the better day of the two.

The second practice was basically a wash between the two with both of them having pretty steady days.

Now after practice three, Phil has an inconsistent day behind an offensive line full of highschool seniors and we're putting him in the Wimbush category and awaiting Bucher?

This statement is what make OMM's statement ring even louder........... funny how the opines of the social media network can make or break a kid in spring practice

Sweet memories of last year's spring practice are all coming back.

I remember the panic from those hearing stories of BW missing the broad side of a short barn, and others saying to take a pill as it doesn't mean anything.

So... Clark starting by week 4?

I'm with you. He's a RS freshman getting the first meaningful practice minutes and he has to throw into tighter windows. That and Pete Sampson's update leaves me resting easy.

I'll let others worry. Phil will hopefully only get backup minutes in the games this fall, giving him another year to continue to develop/tweak his game.

I have far more pressing concerns, like making breakfast.

Heard O'Malley say that TJJ appears to look quicker and more explosive.

Love hearing this from someone other than Kelly. Hoping he can have a Jonas Gray type of years for us.

Wimbush couldn't read a field, a defense, or anticipate open WRs. That coupled with inaccuracy is devastating.

It's way too early to assume PJ can't read all of the above. Most QBs can, or learn to. Wimbush never did.

Some inaccuracy doesn't scare me. Not "getting it" would scare me and it's just way too early to know that.
