Interesting...

the only choices are Jamir and Daelin. Selfishly, if they could pull it off, it would be nice to have Daelin back next year.

The news on Jamir has been going around for awhile. Makes sense. Give some leadership beyond Ade and Justin A coming back for 2020.

In seeing recent pictures/videos of Hunter Spears, he carries 295 really well. I sure hope he bounces back from his injury because I think he was on his way to really coming into his own.

Also, Kyren at 5'9 209 now.

Interesting...

Makes so much sense, as he's still the 3rd SDE I think. I believe that I even asked if he'd be a sophomore redshirt back in 2017

It was odd when Moala and Allen were brought up, Kelly kind of acted like they'd get a chance but wasn't sold on either.

Is Allen going to potentially drop to LB? Or are they already so sold on Hamilton?

I mean Allen was a highly coveted recruit, hopefully this spring/summer will shed more light.

thought this was interesting

Shayne Simon is up to 230 pounds so I would think he’ll be competing more at Buck than Rover, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough. They’re going to keep Derrik Allen at safety (he’s up to 220) based on what Kelly said today. Him and Paul Moala should see a ton of reps there with Griffith moving to corner.

and

- The most interesting weight gains/losses on the roster for me:

Darnell Ewell from 330 to 340. That can’t be good with a move back to defensive tackle. Right now he is on the Pete Mokwuah track unless he shocks the world this spring.

Cole Mabry only up to 273 from 270. That is majorly concerning to me for a guy who came in undersized. That first redshirt season and the winter are usually the time when a player like him puts on a lot of weight.

Braden Lenzy from 170 to 184. That’s more of an example of what I’m referring to when it comes to taking advantage of that redshirt season.

Ade Ogundeji from 255 to 250. Any thought of him getting regular reps at 3-tech went down the drain. It will have to be 3rd down situations only if they use him inside as a pass rusher.

Isaiah Robertson down from 215 to 202 and sticking at wide receiver. No one is mentioning him as a guy who can push at the position right now, but this might mean he’s putting in the work to get his weight down to get quicker. We’ll see if it pays off.

Anyone have a link to all of the heights and weights as reported today?

I agree, I got that same sense too. Hopefully they prove themselves.

Absolutely loved what he did as well. I would not be surprised to see Allen nip at his heels though.

Allen might grow into being a LB, might even do it by June... but if not, I'd like to see him as the "run support" nickel to Crawford's "coverage" nickel when he's not playing/spelling the safeties.

If not, maybe that's how they get Hamilton involved.

with derrick allen up to 220 lbs. I wouldn't mind him moving to rover and get the process in motion. seems like just a matter of time until he eventually move there.

yup on all accounts

He's taller than every safety we have (execpt Hamilton coming in), so not all that concerned so long as he's not losing speed. But if he is, then yes, move him now.

So, is Simon for sure not going to happen at Rover?

Thought that was a "perfect" position for him coming out of HS.

Word is that Jimmy Lake told Allen that he was definitely a linebacker at the next level.

nah, nothing for sure. i think they'll leave him there this year as behind Elliot/Gilman, you only have Studstill, Moala, and Allen behind the 2 starters (not counting Hamilton or Ajavon as they are not on campus yet) with Houston moving.

LB is gonna be crazy and fun to watch unfold, I think. A lot of young guys with plus athleticism, but kind of between positions in terms of their frames and physical projections.

I have faith that Lea is gonna figure out the starters, and also the best rotation and packages to use to supplement them, but I do not envy him lol. It's a clusterfuck.

BUCK: No starter, but a veteran set to get a tryout, and athletic youngsters that could win the job over him
MIKE: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ROVER: The best prospect might be too big. The other best prospect has been hurt. The OTHER best prospect isn't even playing the position yet.

My biggest question is if Lea is willing to play an undersized MIKE, and to sacrifice some strength at the point of attack in exchange for athleticism. I guess it depends on how the 'true' MIKE's on the roster develop, and also how they feel about the interior DL.

Based on that, and the returning experience at safety, I am betting the two best run defending linebackers will be the starters at Mike and Buck.

This is why Jack Lamb getting hurt and missing seemingly a whole year of S&C was huge. Taking a whole year to get physically ready for playing inside would've been great, but EVERYBODY has said that he's very small atm. It's too bad, because he could've made some noise. Hopefully Baeur and Jonathon Jones can handle Mike. I'm not as worried about Buck, because I think somebody pans out between JGH, Simon, or whomever is leftover from the Mike battle.

Curious where you saw/read/heard this? Honestly wondering because Sinclair posted that Lamb really came on strong in the second half of the season on scout team. Strong enough that they expect him to be a part of the competition at ILB. As long as he's healthy, I'd assume he get to 235 pretty easily by next fall.

Thought ISD was saying it and I know that one of the Tims from II (the Elder I believe) said that he met Lamb at the Cotton Bowl practices and that he was small.

Or was that another player they were talking abotu?

I guess I don't know. Small seems a little exaggerated as he was 226 last year and Bauer now is only 230. So, that's not really a significant difference. It might look a lot different as Lamb is taller and longer. Either way, Lamb has been healthy for a little while now and from the Cotton Bowl, he'll have 8 months of training to get that weight/muscle up before the season. Here's to hoping he can.

Ha, that certainly reads as such. I'll edit it, but what I meant to say was he had 8 more months since Tim saw him at the Cotton Bowl. So 8 months from then to completion of Fall camp.

The biggest thing worrying me about this version of ND football is the same as everyone else's --- linebacker. BUT, our coaching genius IS a linebackers coach, so I have the faith that he not only gets it right but gets it really right.
