Here's an interview that BGI did with Justin. It might not be a popular opinion, but I like him as a utility DB and he's obviously a fit off the field. With that said, I agree with the staff wanting to get eyes on him in person prior to an offer.

Ideally, I would like our Secondary class to be: Allen, Griffith, Gervin, Birdsong, Newsome, and another Safety if possible. Need to replenish the cupboards.

Yea, I'd be really happy with that outcome. Let's say Jevon Holland is that other S, and I think you are pretty set.

Tough call because the staff was shooting for at least 2 tackle only prospects. I would think NPF is all tackle and from what I've seen, the other three seem like tackle options.

Think Dirksen will end up inside at guard.

Have you examined the film and determined whom you prefer?

Newsome, he's from Chicagoland. Yes, I'm a homer.

He's also a know quantity. This is one of those scenarios where the offer list can really mean something. Getting the 14 P5 offers out of Illinois vs 0 P5 offers while playing in Georgia says something to me that the coaches are leaning toward Newsome.

Also, While Birdsong's film shows him playing a fine traditional centerfield FS, Newsome is much more flexible in alignment variations and after watching A LOT of 7v7 film already this season, I can tell you Newsome can line up at CB and get it done.

With the current roster and with Allen coming in, I'd rather have a flexible DB in Newsome.

And he's from Chicagola... did I already mention that?

When looking at the OP, do we believe Micah Jones to be so good he is taking 2 scholarships?

Since we never use all the scholarships we have available that might not be a bad idea. Give out two, and he can bring a sibling or a friend.

12 commits thus far and with Spencer Perry leaving, where does that leave the Irish as far as number of remaining commits they can fit in, taking into account potential 5th yr players returning? Would it be 7 or 8 more at most??

It doesn't change the projection appreciably: 18-22 is what most are saying. 22 would result in very small number of 5th years.

mom was an msu grad, dantonio and his dad were roommates when at akron

I didn't know they were roommates. OK, that makes it better but come on Panda, If you are Sr., don't you want junior to play with you? Although.... Sr. might not see himself there for the next 5 seasons.?

I don't know, I just would do anything to coach my kid. Plus, Minnesota should be the next Michigan St if Fleck's as good as he has the world thinking he is.

Minnesota could achieve more than MSU unless Fleck bails on Minny after 1 year like Lou Holtz. He could get that offense up and running and run the West.

but he won't actually coach his son anyways so he could potentially also know that Fleck might not be there that long if there is some movement regarding coaches

Totally get it.

When I say coach, I just mean be around him on a daily basis and get to see his development... and have him home for dinner whenever. It would just be tough situation for me is all I'm saying.

Maybe the kid didn't want to play in the same program where Dad works? An independent sort?

You're right. A lot of different reasons are possible but I go back to... it would crush me as a Dad not to be a part of my kids football career especially when it's on the sorta-same level... in the same conference to boot.

Not sure where to put this but...Vancouver (Kevin Sinclair) was hired (I assume) by II as Jake Brown left to write articles about beer and food at the SBT

Wow. That's Vancouver? How's he going to do that job from Vancouver? Travel covering recruiting has got to be a bitch. To say nothing of getting sourced-up in the program.

He's been writing more recruit interviews than all 5 paid sites combined from his bunker in the arctic circle. All he needs is Twitter, Instagram and a cell phone. Though I'm sure he will offer to cover The Opening LA, SF, Honolulu and Cabo Regionals because he's a team player.
