A thread for anything HS related that you wanna talk about.

I'll start if off:

Went to see 5* Spencer Rattler last night. Pinnacle HS (#4 in AZ) is the next school district north of ours. They played the #3 team in AZ, Gilbert Perry and won 59-33. Rattler was 20-30 for 350 yds and 4 TDs and 50 yds rushing w/ another TD. He looks like Montana last night. I wasn't overly impressed with him before but watching him last night: That's exactly what I'd want an ND QB to play like. Also, the Netflix crew was there filming for their QB1 series.

Of note: Perry's new QB is Chubba Purdy (yes Chubba). He's the younger brother of Iowa St freshman, Brock Purdy who rewrote all of the AZ big school's QB records last season... 4400 yds and 57 TD's. Chubba's 6-3/200 already, Brock is listed at 6-1/200 at ISU. Chubba was 20-35 for almost 300 yds / 3 TD's + another 50 rushing. He looks like a future 4*

Next week it's Desert Mountain with 2019 SC QB commit, Kedon Slovis at Chaparral with the 2020 Ohio State commits, QB Jack Miller and RB Darvon Hubbard. Chaparral moved up to 6A this year and went to perennial power Chandler Hamilton (who is down from the best Steve Belles team when they had Luke Cole) and won 36-33.

#1 Warren beat up on Center Grove last night. Region looks weak, again.

I can't believe I'm saying this but... Watch out for City!

They went to dirty white boy central = Griffith and won 53-0. Next week H-F crosses the border and heads to beautiful Ames Field. If Michigan City stays in that game vs ex-City/Portage coach Craig Buzea and his #14 team in Ill, then watch out. The kids that fill the roster now are the ones that won a couple of Pop Warner NC's in Orlando.

What's up with Roman Purcell?

I see Jeff George's latest son was the starter, did Purcell switch positions, get injured or is he just the back up?

Michael Mayer’s CovCath squad put up their 13th-straight running clock against KY competition last night, the same night 6A powers St. X and Trinity both lost. If ever there was a year for a non-6A team outside of Louisville to challenge the big dogs, this would be the year, and CovCath would be the squad. A shame KY folks won’t be able to find out.

Mayer is probably not gonna have a lot of opportunities to catch the ball this year because they’ve got a QB that can scoot and a senior pass catcher that will eat up the targets, but he’s gonna have plenty of highlights from the defensive side. The kid is lights-out at MLB against the run and has a motor that doesn’t stop. He may have 150+ tackles this year.

My alma mater, which was not great last year and made a coaching change, opened their season with a 41-0 blowout win over a 4A squad that was supposed to be pretty good. They’ve got an Ohio commit playing RB/LB that is gonna be a problem for 2A teams in KY to handle, and it looks like the new coach has the rest of the squad in line to help.

Gonna try to head to Louisville to see my alma mater take on Milton Wright and Christian Academy of Louisville in a few weeks. Should be a good battle.

A couple big games next week in Ohio, Holy Cross school St. Ed’s takes on D1 runner-up Mentor. Don’t know much about St. Ed’s this year but they usually just reload with talent. Then Holy Cross school Archbishop Hoban takes on the Jesuits of St. Ignatius. Hoban is looking to go for a 4-peat State title and is loaded with D1 talent, most noteably Nolan Rumler (4* OL Michigan), Caden Clark (3* TE Alabama commit), and Deamonte Traynum (4* RB/DB/LB uncommitted). It’s going to be a good week.

My boys just unveiled a new multi million dollar field and such, problem is they scheduled the local power house for the opener. Lost 28-0... well done. They only have four home games this season due to an odd rotation but the other three should be winnable, sucks though as I saw last night coming from miles away.

To be fair to Trinity, they lost on the road to public school recruiting champion / 5300 student Carmel. Next week they go to #1 Warren Central. My question is... Who's their AD, Jack Swarbrick Jr.?

So ND is recruiting 6-6.5 TE Seth Figgins out of Westlake HS in CA and he told 247 he's expecting an offer. Any chance ND will bring Mayer in as a TE/DE ATH?

Little Ronnie Powlus and Penn beat Vaporaiso

Sounds like RP3 was gifted the starting job when ND baseball commit Ryan Lynch gave up football to concentrate on his 92 mph lefty heater.

Also of note, starting LT Tate Johnson who's a 3* 6-4/300 OG prospect moved back to GA and is playing at Callaway HS where he'll team up with 4* Auburn commit Keondre Jones. Hard to believe he got no mention from midwest analysts a\nd as soon as he gets to GA, he has FL and Ole Miss offers.

I was at the Orange Lutheran (#2 in Orange County and #26 in Nation by MaxPreps) versus San Juan Hills #18 in Orange County on Friday. Orange Lutheran features 4* QB Ryan Hilinski (South Carolina commit), 4* TE Ethan Rae (USC commit) and 4* WR Kyle Ford (uncommitted, ND offer). San Juan Hills features 4* OL Sean Rhyan (uncommitted, ND offer).

Orange Lutheran won 27-7, but the game was closer than the score indicated. Orange Lutheran kept throwing the ball and punched in a TD with about a minute remaining to impress the pollsters…LOL! Both teams played very sloppy. This looked like the first game of the season. Ryan Hilinski looked incredible throwing the ball in warmups, but really struggled for most of the game. I heard he was really emotional being it his first game since his brother’s passing this summer which might of accounted for his play. With that being said, ND fans think of B. Wimbush as he missed on a lot of simple throws. Ryan just seemed out of sorts and while they threw the ball a lot there were only 2 or 3 throws where we said, “WOW.” They did a lot of dink and dunk type throws as Kyle Ford said they planned away from San Juan Hills 2* 6’ 3” FS Carson Lewis (strange that a team with 4*’s planned against a 2*) . Lewis has been contacted over the last year by ND baseball Coach Aoki. I hope Ryan doesn’t go down to SEC country and become another Cali flameout.

Kyle Ford is a big physical receiver, but lacks the top end speed to stretch the defense. He likes to block and actually had two personal fouls for late hit/blindside blocks. With his size and lack of exceptional speed, will he maybe have to move to TE at the next level? He even commented on the speed and length of Carson Lewis being tough to get around and Lewis runs maybe a 4.7 which should not scare a 4* WR. Ford also had a couple of drops with no one around him.

Ethan Rae is huge, but other than that did not blow any of us away. On one catch, it took 3 defenders to bring him down which I figured would be happening all night, but did not. Orange Lutheran’s other TE Elijan Mojarro (Cal commit) was not a factor. With the amount of throws Hilinski made, I don’t remember him having more than 1-2 catches.

It was tough to judge SJH OL Sean Rhyan as their offense is pathetic so not sure he could make a difference. ND fans would have loved SJH QB play as he fumbled one snap and then tried to throw an end zone fade, but did the Tommy Rees follow through as the ball is flying behind you. With a better offense, Orange Lutheran may have been beaten.

The kid who played the best on Friday was SJH 2* DE Cade Albreight. This kid may start to get some attention throughout the year. He was injured most of last year. I believe he only camped at BYU where he was named Defensive MVP and received an offer which is currently his only one. He had two sacks, 4 QB hurries and drew about five holding penalties which easily could have been ten. The kid was too quick and athletic for the Orange Lutheran OL. I heard he could do a 360 dunk with little effort.

Orange Lutheran plays Corona Centennial next week which could be a blowout if they don’t step it up from week 1 to week 2.

Open for debate.

1. Carmel beat Trinity (Louisville). Trinity is typically one of the better programs in the IN, OH & Ky area.
2. Early reports show Warren may be very, very good this year.
3. CG dealing with HC controversy. Time will tell of they rebound from that.
4. Not sure how good Ben Davis is yet. They rolled over Tech 51-6, but that was expected as Tech is never any good.

It's possible, but his defensive game is a relatively new development. Everyone knew he had potential as a DE just because of his frame, but if the ND coaches view him as a defensive athlete, it's essentially based on a few plays from last year and film from two games this year.

Region = Lake/Porter/LaPorte Counties in Chicagoland, Indiana. Where all the Indiana folks who don'tsound like they're from Kentucky live.

OLu's in trouble. Centennial beat AZ's best big school program Chandler 35-13. '20 WR Gary Bryant had something like 10 rec for 265 yds and 3 TD's.

lol.... I know where the region is. My boys used to go up there and kick some Hobart and Merrilville butt in wrestling.

For some reason I thought Steelhead was referring to the central Indiana region. Should have finished my coffee first.

Thought about going to Birmingham and seeing Bo Nix and Pinson Valley play Hoover. May be tough sledding for Nix and co as I don't think they are in Hoover's league just yet. Settled on seeing Thompson High and Little Tua playing James Clemens in Montgomery.

Tonight's Indiana games:

Warren Central @ Louisville Trinity
Penn @ Merillville
Ben Davis @ Avon

One Indiana name that we should maybe look for is Deontae Craig from the 2020 class; a SDE that plays at Culver Military. 247 has him ranked as the #24 SDE.

So this is why we practice at Culver now!?

City just scored and converted the 2 pt conversion to tie HF late 4th.

Warren Central (IN) beat Trinity (KY) in a thriller.

The Louisville Mafia is not happy with Trinity's late-game offensive playcalling at all... and I have to agree. Very similar to Charlie Weis calling plays against scUM late in the fourth quarter in 2009... just run the ball and make WC use their timeouts and Trinity probably wins.

Instead, you try to win the game with a first down on a pass play, but throw incomplete and stop the clock instead. Whoops.

Across the way in Lexington, Covington Catholic heard my cries from last week and decided to get Mayer involved offensively against Henry Clay. They were force-feeding him the ball tonight, and he pulled down a couple of impressive receptions on jump balls.

This was a big win for WC - they look to be the real deal this year.

On the south side of town....Roncalli starts the season 0-2, fires a counselor for being a Lesbian and the principle is outed for dropping the N-bomb...been a tough few weeks in Rebel country.

Flashes get the job done. Good day to be a Flash.

I thought she hadn’t been fired yet, though it is expected next week.

MIC down this year? Center Grove gets rolled by New Pal, Ben Davis loses to Avon and Lawrence Central loses.

New Pal is pretty good but I was pretty shocked to see them roll CG the way they did.

Mentor (OH) takes down St. Edwards (OH)...42-33 last night. Mentor's sophomore QB ran wild. Next week they take on St. Ignatius and I won't be there because i'll be at the Michigan game, but it will be interesting to see how Tommy Eich (Liam's little bro) does.
