I had the item below and didn't know where to put it, so I figured I would just start a thread for general college football news as we have breakout for some team and some conferences but not really something that included everyone.

Use it as you see fit (or not).

The item I saw...

CFB schedule facts:

11 B1G teams play at least 10 Power 5 foes, 12 if counting BYU as P5; 3 play 11

9 B12 teams play 10 P5 foes

8 P12 teams play 10/more P5, 10 if counting BYU

5 ACC teams play 10 P5; Notre Dame plays 10 P5

0 SEC teams play 10 P5 games; Arkansas plays 8 P5
— Scott Dochterman (@ScottDochterman) August 20, 2018

this infuriates me, how can the SEC constantly get away with this crap. FCS schools shouldn't count as a win when it comes to the playoff criteria, period.

While almost universally getting praised for playing real schedules...

It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy:

-Average SEC teams get inflated W/L records and over-ranked for beating up on cupcakes

-Top tier SEC then beat the over-ranked, middle of the pack teams, bolstering their SOS

The SEC is no different than any other P5 league; there's one or two good to great teams in each division followed by four or five mediocre to bad teams. They just ride on this SOS myth that their mediocre teams are better than every one else's mediocre teams. Where would that league be if they didn't have the coattails of Bama's historic dynasty to ride on?

The SEC’s depth has weakened considerably the last few years. If power programs like Florida, LSU and A&M don’t improve, it’ll become more and more apparent that it’s Alabama, Georgia and a bunch of dwarfs.

What about Tennessee?

The last couple of years I've heard plenty of media start to take the SEC to tasks for these "brutal" schedules they must endure. Only SEC fans and coaches believe their schedules are more difficult than any others.

Right, it's probably one of the more frustrating things being an ND fan when you have other teams' fans poke fun that we play Navy every year, like they're some joke of an opponent, yet we have B1G teamsplaying Central Michigan, or SEC teams playing The Citadel or some other FCS team. Like that's an even comparison.

I'll trade them schedules any day of the week. But their head coaches, being smarter than the average fan, wouldn't touch it.

JJ Arcega-Whiteside w/ a huge nigt. ND needs to take note of this as the Trees exposed ND last season & did it tonight vs SDSU. Just throw it up & let your WR play power foward & either catch the ball or draw the penalty.

Thought I'd post this here. An interesting little tidbit. Here are the top 6 power five QB's in QBR through 3 weeks of the college football season along with their recruiting rankings.

1) .9843 5* Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama
2) .9855 5* Kyler Murray, Oklahoma
3) .9561 4* Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
4) .9765 4* Will Grier, West Virginia
5) .9553 4* Drew Lock, Missouri
6) .9498 4* Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

Pretty star studded lineup in terms of recruiting rankings. I wonder if the services are getting better at evaluation of QB's, or if its just a coincidence. If there is some correlation, I do hope Phil Jurkovec continues to develop and then maybe we'll see a dynamite QB at ND. That would be truly exciting.

So what's Brandon's excuse since he is a 4*?

It's got more to do with just their ranking. O-line, Coaching

From CBS Sports - "We need 78 of the 128 FBS teams to get to six wins in order to fill all of the bowls. That seems unlikely, but you never know. The number of projected 5-7 teams needed to fill the bowls is down to two this week after a season-high of five last week. Northwestern and Wake Forest are the fill-in teams."

There is no need to have 40 bowl games... It's utter nonsense. Even dropping it down by 10 would do wonders.

The first step to my fix to the cfb mess prior to the playoff was to nix many the bowls... focus on the big dozen or so that are big or historic.

I guess I'm in the minority then; I have no problem with all of the bowls. My family and I (Cousins, Uncles, etc) all throw money into a pool and pick them. Makes each game interesting and I really don't get sick of watching it. Probably because I know that CFB is on the way out once bowl season starts, but I digress...I love 'em.

Also, didn't see a week 8 watch party yet (always appreciate those getting thrown together!!) so I'll drop this here while it's fresh on my mind:

Does anyone know why on God's green Earth pOSU @ Purdon't is a 7:30PM, prime time kickoff, and scUM at (Go) Sparty is on at noon? Utter nonsense, IMO. Would love some insight.

It's on Fox for one, not ABC/ESPN.

The reason Fox slated it there is due to MLB playoff possibilities, I would presume.

Seems like scUM and Sparty always play at noon

Didn't realize it was on FOX. still don't quite understand the timing of OSU/Purdue.

IIRC at least two out of last three have been 3:30. "Trouble with the snap" in 2015 occurred as I was walking into the stadium for the USC showdown, which was a night game, and last year I remember watching at a buddies place and showing up in a torrential down poor, and I showed up a few minutes late a 4 pm ET. It was so dark out you would have thought daylight savings time had already ended.

Your point still stands though; I feel like historically they make it a noon kick, but sparty hasn't been as good as they have been in the past decade, making this typically "regional" rivalry of more national importance. I just don't like noon kicks, and this is the most intriguing bye week match-up given my pure hatred of scUM. I'll live, just wondering if anyone had some insight.

Many of the games that were cancelled for weather-related issues are being played this weekend - some with the same opponents, many with different ones. In general, fans did not get refunds.

Makeups with same opponent
Stanford v Cal
Norfolk St v Liberty

Cancelled, No makeup games for team(s)
UCF v North Carolina (UCF in championship game)
Appalachian St v Southern Mississippi (App St in championship game)
West Virginia

West Virginia, North Carolina and Southern Mississippi will end up playing only eleven games this year.

Makeup Games with Different Opponent

Original game------Makeup Game
Nebraska-Akron --- Nebraska-Bethune Cookman (signed Sept 20)
NC St-W.Virginia --- NC St-East Carolina (signed Oct 2)
S. Carolina-Marshall -- SC-Akron (signed Nov 3)
Va Tech-E. Carolina -- VaTech-Marshall (signed Nov 18)
Iowa St-S.Dakota St -- Iowa St-Drake (signed Nov 26)

Iowa St originally wanted Drake, but could not get approval. They signed Incarnate Word which was voided when Inc. Word went to Playoffs. Drake's game with William Jewell was canceled due to weather.

The Carolinas games were canceled due to the hurricane.
The Midwest games were canceled due to thunderstorms with lightning.
The Bay Area game was canceled due to wildfire smoke.

In general, many of the opponents received the same amount of money for buy-in games. Marshall negotiated for a future home-and-home series. Va Tech will play the twelfth game to become bowl eligible. Makeup games in some cases are having difficulty selling tickets. The Nebraska-Bethune Cookman game was played Oct 27th in what would have been Nebraska's bye week.
