SEC schools will schedule FCS opponents only because all they need to do is win the conference. Conference bids are mathematically more likely than at large bids so the teams will go all in on conference games and nothing else.

Why would that lead to more FCS games? Right now FCS games are important because going undefeated or 1 loss is very important. If conference auto bids are in play, that doesn't matter. Strength of schedule becomes important if you come in 2nd, and scheduling Michigan or Oklahoma during the year doesn't affect avenue 1 for getting in.

There is a reason the SEC teams put a weak game just before rivalry week. Playing bad teams is an easy win plus it helps you win other games.

Also, also, football injuries are a year long battle of attrition and keeping your starters off the field helps them avoid both serious injuries and the minor injuries which have degrading effects on performance.
