Yeah they did? Michigan was touted from the get go as a NC contender, OSU is OSU, and Wisconsin started top 5.

And people also thought PSU was for real.

The weird thing is, when the SEC beats themselves up everyone moves up in the rankings, and when the Big Ten does it everyone goes down lol

Any conference is the best in any given year. *

That being said, when 1 conference dominates recruiting rankings, the NFL draft, revenue, attendance, salaries, etc., I tend to give the sec the benefit of the doubt.
But who am I to doubt the entire high school football recruiting industry, the list of college football champions over the last 15 years, and 32 NFL GM's?

*Except the big ten

I hope you guys are right about the Bama-LSU game. I think we should win and can even see us torching LSU, but I also have a tendency to be allergic to my crimson colored glasses and worry about all the things that could go wrong. I work diligently to avoid buying into the hype and "we can't be beaten" mentality.

didn't Penn St almost lose to App St. and Wisc lose to BYU? Feel like the SEC did very well out of conference

OSU lost by 30 to Purdue.. If Georgia came out this week and lost by 30, they prob wouldn't stay in the top 15

Just make sure Saban knows your serious concern when your kicker misses a 60 yarder in practice, especially if you need to vent about how your squad is getting soft. Or maybe get angry about how your mascot is a species with severely endangered populations when clearly Alabama isn’t going away anytime soon. Or just gnash some more teeth at the gross realization that Paul Finnebaum is in love with the same team as you. Yuck! I mean, the last line of the national eye chart is like z-m-s-q-b-a-m-a. Life is hard, man, with all these eye-tests.

My LSU friends are not confident in an upset and see a suspect offense, especially after Mississippi State stuffed their running game. Not sure about the two touchdowns spread, but it is in Death Valley...

So true. The SEC has done a great job of selling the talking heads.

almost losses aren't losses. I hate when people bring up almost losses. Penn State also ran the same Pitt team that ND struggled with off the field to the tune of something like 51-6. Penn State is a pretty good team. Not elite, but outside of Bama and Clemson not sure there are elite teams. Penn State is definitely solid top 15-20 for sure. For Wisconsin the loss to BYU is really screwing them over. Had they never lost that game they'd be 6-2 right now ranked somewhere in the top 25.

Georgia lost a game by 20 and only dropped like 3 spots, so, yeah.

great point.

Florida isn't a better team than Penn State, they just aren't. Penn State would beat them on a neutral field. Franks is terrible and Florida is missing 75% of their starting secondary. Yet they are ranked 3 spots higher. UCF is ranked 2 spots higher than Penn State as well and let's be real here- UCF plays nobody and would get spanked on a neutral field by Penn State.

I'm still trying to figure out how A&M, Mississippi State, and Kentucky are rated as high as they are.

The whole premise of the SEC being great seems to hinge on Georgia being a great team.
Even going back to last year they played 2 teams outside of the SEC and were very luck to get past ND when ND were not yet a very good team (I think this ND team would beat that Georgia team handily) and they beat Oklahoma in a shoot out in the play off game.
If Georgia aren't that great then the SEC is just about the level of Big Ten.

But don't we want to shoot the moon and just root for Bama to somehow fall out all together? I want to avoid them in the 1st round, but avoiding them all together - that would be divine.

I truly believe we can beat those cheaters. Grey shirt and all.

Whom also beat us by 1 point and It was because of a terribly officiated game.
Nobody else wants to see things that have happened in our past games as real. FSU wouldn't have 2 titles If people could just get over our religious affiliation.

The BCS system should never have been dropped. There was nothing wrong with that formula, it was what was done with the results that sucked. The BCS deciding the top 4 would have been perfect. Instead we have this eye test garbage that is using subjective rankings to outweigh actual wins and losses.

Everyone keeps saying to relax and it doesn't matter because LSU and Bama play each other yada yada. That's not the point. These rankings show you how the committee feels about ND, and basically all non SEC teams. We now have zero room for error since we are already being put behind a team with a worse record than us, and have to be legitimately concerned about a team we beat jumping us.

^This. If Notre Dame and Michigan have one loss to end the season and Michigan jumps Notre Dame then the system has failed. What is the point in playing a game head to head if winning doesn’t matter. End of story.

rather play bama than Michigan again

Everytime people say they want Bama...

I think our best hope is Bama has a bad night and stumbles against #4, then we have at least a 50/50 shot or better of walking away with everything. Gotta win out though, gotta win out

Honestly if we go 11-1 and our only loss is to Syracuse in a close game I don't see how Notre Dame is left out considering if Syracuse beats us they most likely move up somewhere into the top 12-15 range in the rankings. They currently rank 19th.

so let me get this straight. ND can lose the second to last game to a non top 10 team, likely drop 5-6 spots to 8 or 9, and still jump back into the top 4 by beating a .500 USC team? It would take a LOT of teams losing the last week, and in the CCs.

If ND were in the SEC, maybe... we're not.

If you can't see how we get hopped if we lose to Syracuse, I'm not sure you understand how this system works... ND would have 1 very good win and nothing else.. There will be a lot of teams with one loss making that same argument and probably with better wins

IMO, scUM could easily lose to PSU and OSU to end the season, and even our one very good win, just looks like a decent home win.

It's the annual second bye week.....

Third or fourth for most of them.

Bama has already played LA Lafayette and Arkansas State in addition to their bye week.

LSU has SE Louisiana and Louisiana Tech in their rear view mirror.

UGA playing Austin Peay and Middle Tennessee early make their UMass game look tough

I boldly predict half of the teams will lose the last week and in the CCs.

Yep, the SEC plays a 9 game schedule.
