FYI Denson and Lyght were at his game Friday night--247

“I’ve talked with [head] coach Brian Kelly, he’s messaged me on Twitter a lot. I’ve talked to [running backs] coach Autry Denson a lot. I’ve talked to [defensive backs] coach Todd Lyght. I’ve been talking to them frequently.

“I love their tradition. Notre Dame football is huge. That’s big for me. They’ve come on to me and believed in me enough to offer me, so I want to see what they have to offer. It’s a trip I definitely want to take.”--247

Troy Pride, the 2nd-ranked cornerback in South Carolina, is firmly committed to Virginia Tech, but will likely take some official visits

Troy Pride committed to Virginia Tech nearly eight months ago and while his commitment to the Hokies is strong, he will likely take some official visits.

“I’m still very much committed to Virginia Tech,” Troy Pride Jr. said. “But at the same time, it’s a huge decision in my life, so I want evaluate it and make sure I make the right decision.”

Besides Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Tennessee have continued to recruit him. The South Carolina cornerback will actually take an official to one of the schools this weekend.

“I’ve planned my first official visit to Notre Dame on Oct. 17,” said the 5-foot-11, 166-pound Pride Jr. “I’m just going in with an open mind and looking forward to seeing what the school has to offer. I want to learn more about not only the football program, but the academics and campus life.

“I have a pretty good relationship with the staff. I talk to (running backs) coach (Autry) Denson and (defensive backs) coach (Todd) Lyght a lot. I can definitely tell that they care about me.”

Along with officials to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, Pride Jr. said he could possibly take visits to North Carolina and Tennessee.

Despite taking visits, he reiterated his commitment to Virginia Tech remains strong.

“They were the first school to offer, so they were the first school to believe in me,” Pride Jr said. “I really like the coaching staff and (defensive backs) coach (Torian) Gray has recruited me hard.

“I also like the family atmosphere they have up there and how they’re always working to get better. They’re still building and definitely on the rise.”

Does anyone have a read on whether he'd be a take at this point?

Irish247 is making it sound like we are going to use this weekend to see how much of a shot we have with Hamlin before going on other CB's. It sounds like we try to impress the hell out of both of them and if by Sunday we don't have a good feeling on Hamlin we can start to push for Pride. Not saying that results in a commitment but thats what I've gathered.

per tv--ND feels he is one of the best pure cover corners...he knows he won't likely have a spot should he wait past this weekend..they're cautiously optimistic for the flip but VT feels he won't

Man, after reading this his family and Troy himself seem to fit NDs style.

Scout: he and his family loved ND. Going to step back and take it all in. Wants to sit back and analyze things before making a decision. May let things play out a little longer to settle in. Anna thinks it's a toss up

My feeling...if Loy is putting a CB for Hamlin and Long to schools that are NOT ND after the USC game it's because he heard some really good news on this kid.

That's just my opinion after drinking my Expedition Stout though.

kid was interviewed by andrew ivins on BGI podcast on friday gone by and he's very impressive. Kid gets recruiting and is a very good speaker. He would definitely fit in at ND

Sounds like we did a really good job with him and his family on the visit. One of their big questions, which I take as a positive, was does he have a spot. Coach Kelly assured him that they do not give out offers unless they are committable. He called the visit "phenomenal". Says for now he's committed to VT but sounds very torn at the present.

IMO, if we push for him, we'll get the flip. I also think we should do that ASAP.

I do as well because Hamlin is going to Pitt. Pride would be the best DB in this class IMO.

Told 247 he'll be shutting everything down in December. It sounds like this is a flip for the good guys. We did an exceptional job here and he really seems to get what ND is about.

Told 247 that this is the month that he'll be deciding and shutting it down. It sounds like this is a flip for the good guys. I'd be surprised if by the end of the month he isn't ND. We did an exceptional job here and he really seems to get what ND is about.

I thought he said december?

Loy's CB for Hamlin to Pitt definitely set off alarms that Pride was a flip. I could be reaching, but that's how I interpreted it.

Virginia Tech in a battle to keep CB commit

Virginia Tech commit Troy Pride Jr. (Greer, SC/Greer) has been committed to the Hokies since February, but that hasn't stopped the 247Sports four star cornerback from looking at all of his options. Throughout numerous unofficial visits and one official visit so far, an official visit to Notre Dame, Pride remains committed to Virginia Tech.

"I still feel like they're my number one choice but I feel like Notre Dame is making a good push," Pride told VTScoop.com about the Hokies. "I think they're both different but have their own good things.

"I am continuing to pray [on my decision] and allow God to lead me."

Pride is mainly focused on Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Tennessee, though many see this becoming a battle of the Hokies and the Irish and Pride see's a lot of promise with his future in both programs.

Virginia Tech: "Coach Gray and his coaching, the defensive schemes and overall defense and a nice campus."

Notre Dame: "A good coaching staff, the value of a degree and they are on the national stage."

Despite taking a handful of visits after making his verbal commitment early in the cycle, Pride has continued a close relationship with Virginia Tech's defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.

"I talk to him at least twice a week and we're pretty solid and honest with each other. We have good conversations," Pride said.

What do they typically talk about?

"The fact that he believed in me first and started this entire process and his coaching style."

Pride plans to schedule official visits to Virginia Tech and possibly Tennessee before finalizing his college pledge. He hopes to finalize his decision by December.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Pride is the 13th best overall player in the state of South Carolina.

Apparently the only thing keeping VT in this recruitment is the DB's coach, Torrian Gray. Per 247 if it wasn't for him he'd already have flipped and if he were to be fired, coaching change perhaps, then that probably locks it up for the good guys.

Sounds like he's very close to coming on over. Hopefully it happens regardless. I think Beamer's retiring after this season.

Defensive coordinator is probably the lead candidate for the job. Would probably keep the DB coach.
