Pandfan: Agree 100% [and I don't drink] but there's nothing you can do about it, so consider it all written in italics. That way, even though you secretly know they believe it, you can survive it.

On topic, a bit: Temple is a grinder team, and doesn't score much unless you hand it to them. If we don't, and if we block their linebackers, it could get ugly, because nobody stops Coach's offense short of 30+ this year. But we all know that we're capable of starting slow, or starting fast and then going to sleep, so who the he!l knows?

If your point is that ND appears to be much faster, bigger, and stronger at each position, I agree.

Speed when you have size and strength is a killer.

As far as anyone talking about the Temple versus Penn State game, PSU's offensive line, and their quarterback this year should not even be considered a starting effort at the bottom of the B10GT conference! Really!

Now their offensive line did play better by the OSU game, but at the beginning of the season they may have been the worst D1 offensive line I have ever seen. (I am really being polite, because I believe I could say they may have been the worst D2, D3, or NAIA line I have ever seen as well, without having to rely on hyperbole, too much!)

Think bad. Temple may be good, but decimating Penn State is not a bullet point for that on any resume.

As far as Christian Hackenberg;

CAREER STATS
SEASON CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT RAW QBR ADJ QBR
2015 107 206 1521 51.9 7.38 56 11 2 27 129.6 45.6 45.2
2014 270 484 2977 55.8 6.15 79 12 15 44 109.4 31.8 37.3
2013 231 392 2955 58.9 7.54 68 20 10 21 134.0 56.6 58.3

By comparison, Everett Golson is at # 49, with a rating of 64.9!

Poor Christian!

As far as what OldManMike said, you all should listen. If the ND coaches are really smart, they will force Temple into a choice as to whether they defend against CJ or Will. But It may not be as big as that. It may come down to their size and speed up front precludes them from containing CJ, no matter how many bodies they put in the box. Play action, and draws by ND will kill this team.

As will double tight end sets. They cannot defend that against ND with ND's skill level (in my book.)

As far as Temple's offensive line versus ND, they haven't played against a Day-Tillery-Cage this year. I bet this is a case where our defensive line actually wears out their offensive line. I could be wrong, but I don't believe so.

ND just has so many tools like freakishly long receivers, mobile offensive linemen, a running back that can control a game, and a wide receiver that can outrun any defender he has come up against.

It will be interesting to see how Rhule starts the game with his safety's, where they line up and how they play! If he doesn't keep them back both Will Fuller, Chris Brown, and Tori Hunter Jr., are going to be open streaking to the endzone, all day.

I bet St. Brown and Jones see meaningful action this weekend, too!

I would pull CJ after 100 yards and a touchdown, (or whatever), and focus on Josh and Dexter, (my own personal very strong feeling.) It would be great coming into Stanford with three running backs that you could rotate, that you can actually depend on. From what I have seen Josh is right there, and Dexter only needs the game reps to catch up.

I wouldn't be too concerned what Temple did to Penn State. The transitive property in football rarely plays out. Temple could come out even better than they were there, or they could come out worse. I just watched Rhule's press conference and while he was singing our praises, you can tell he's excited for this game and he'll have his players prepared. They're going to be upset minded, and I expect we're going to see Temple play above their level because of the stage they'll be on and the Gameday excitement. I'm hoping we come out early and smack them in the mouth to take the wind out of their sails, because if we play conservative they could make it a game. I think Temple is going to sell out, and seeing the way we've defended trick plays I expect Rhule will try to exploit that.

Couldn't agree more. I think this is the biggest match-up advantage we have. Would be huge for this DL group to have a big day getting interior pressure on the QB. The resulting confidence could pay dividends when we need it.

Been reading up a lot on Temple and I found some interesting things. The more I read, the less I'm convinced that Temple is a legitimate contender. In fact, I'm convinced (and perhaps I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I don't know) that they're complete frauds, which of course means that they'll beat us and then collapse immediately afterwards because the universe hates ND. A quick look at their season:

Penn State (6-2) - As we all know, this was a 27-10 win. After going into the half down 10-7, Temple scored 20 unanswered points in the second half. The offense played efficiently enough to win and the defense absolutely dominated, holding PSU to 183 total yards and sacking Christian Hackenberg 10 times. Even when removing the sacks, PSU was still held to a modest 139 yards rushing. A genuinely impressive win.

Cincinnati (4-3) - Temple won 34-26. Again, the offense got off to a slow start, with Temple leading 10-6 at the half. Cincinnati outgained Temple by a whopping 261 yards (557 to 296) but turned the ball over 5 times, including twice in the redzone and a third in Temple territory.

UMass (1-6) - Temple needed a last second FG to beat UMass 25-23. UMass, currently the 116th ranked rushing defense in the FBS, surrended 67 yards on 37 carries, a 1.8 yards per carry average.

Tulane (2-5) - Temple dominated 49-10. An impressive performance all around.

Charlotte (2-5) - Temple only led 10-3 at the half, then exploded for 27 points in the second half to win 37-3. Oddly enough, they were outgained 354-322.

Central Florida (0-8) - Temple trailed 16-14 in the 4th quarter before scoring a pair of touchdowns to put the game away. An impressive defensive performance holding UCF to 134 total yards.

East Carolina (4-4) - Trailed 14-10 before scoring the go ahead TD with 3:31 remaining in the game. Blocked a punt and scored quickly to go up 10 for the 24-14 win.

They're 108th in the country in total offense despite only playing one defense (Penn State, 23rd) that is ranked in the Top 50 nationally. The second best defense they've played, Cincinnati, is currently ranked 60th. The third best? Tulane, currently ranked 78th.

That stellar defense, 14th in the country in total D? The offenses they've played:

#7 Cincinnati - As mentioned above, they allowed 557 yards.
#47 East Carolina
#52 UMass
#109 Penn State
#121 Tulane
#127 UCF - Officially the worst offense in the country.
Also Charlotte

Am I drinking the Kool-Aid here? Am I blinded by game week anticipation?

You know he had a stroke right? I mean it could have been crack-induced I guess. That doesn't seem right but I just don't know enough about crack or strokes to dispute it.

He's absolutely right. People rarely talk about college football unless Penn State is good. Talk radio is 70% Eagles, and 10% each Sixers, Flyers, Phillies. Really sucks since i'm like the only one of my friends that actually follows college football like other sports. Everyone cares about the NFL so much more.

Absolutely. Penn St. doesn't even make much noise inside the city limits, and they usually don't even sell out the Linc when playing at Temple. There has been a lot of buzz though about this game. Radio's been hyping it up, SEPTA (The city's train/bus service) has even adjusted its schedule to accommodate the game/gameday. Tickets to the game are harder to get and more expensive than Eagles tickets.

.......

TTown just messaged me castigating me about NO ONE wanting to defend Will and CJ on the field at the same time, as if the idea was absurd. Unless he's talking about a pro team, he must mean Alabama. While that sort of emotional homerism is understandable, I'll bet a bunch of REAL money that if the DCs of the college game were asked if they wanted to defend against Fuller and Prosise [and we could get a straight answer] NONE of them would say that they'd prefer doing that. Although they might say that there are a few other duos they ALSO would prefer not to defend, nobody in their right mind wants to defend both our supermen at the same time. If Saban had a "bowl month" to prepare, he'd come up with a good plan, but he would rather not have to have that level of problem either. This is one of the very few instances of homerism I've seen from TT, but it is what it is.

First off OMM I didn't castigate you. My message to you was simply "No One? Come on OMM." If that's castigating you, then I am guilty as charged. Secondly, if homerism is defined as having confidence in a team's ability to do this or that, then I would think we are both guilty. While I have the utmost respect for both Fuller and Prosise, I also don't fear either from a football standpoint. Both are outstanding players in their own right, but they are only two players that make up an offensive unit. And I somehow don't think Saban fears them either. Maybe we find out later on this year. Until then, it is what it is, as you say.

This is IE... we only distribute vCrack here.

Go to your local Crack-a-Borrow

I'll be here all week with two shows on Saturday. Try the veal, Whiskey recommends it.

.

We got a Cracker Barrel in town, but we ain't got no Golden Coral that ya'll speak so highly of all the time! Here in Toledo we only got a Golden Shower, and that happens every other year about this time.

(Just another chance for corrupt influences, in the guise of politicians and above board community leaders, to piss on the general population in the form of a general and Mayoral election!)

Now that I've got that random gas out of my system!

It's kind of funny looking at the prediction threads on the Temple Scout board vs. the prediction threads on the Notre Dame 247 board. Virtually every Temple fan is predicting a close win for the home team with a relatively low score, while virtually every ND fan is predicting a total blowout wherein ND wins by 3-4 TDs and puts up 50+ points.
