With the 29th pick of the draft the Green Bay Packers select CB Gareon Conley, Ohio State.

While Conley is not a blazer or a pure man to man coverage guy he is a corner who is good but not great at pretty much everything a corner in the NFL can be asked to do. Packers cornerbacks group has shaky in the past few years due to inexperience and the inability to hold onto expensive veterans. Conley will add some stability to the group bringing good size and great length. He has the profile of a future number 1 corner but as a rookie he will likely be a number 2 and feature on special teams.

With the 30th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Tim Williams, OLB, Alabama.

For the fourth time in five seasons, the Steelers draft a linebacker in the first round of the draft. The Steelers allowed disappointing 2013 first-round selection Jarvis Jones to leave after four seasons with the team. He is a great fit for Pittsburgh's need to get another high end pash rusher and will have a great role model in James Harrison to learn from. The plan will be to give him reps early on in passing situations where he can do what he does best, get to the quarterback and cause turnovers. Williams brings with him a few character concerns as well, but the Steelers believe they can surround him with the right people to be successful in the NFL.

Some expected the Steelers to pursue more help in the defensive backfield, but with the Steelers in a "win now" mode, they decided to take a dynamic pash rusher would immediately help bring home a 7th Super Bowl trophy to the Steel City.

NorthDakota wants a ring before Ben retires. Timmy gonna give us some sacks.

So do I. I just like TJ Watt and Takk McKinley much more than Tim Williams. Pass rushers are deep and talented this draft. We could probably get a corner or safety in round 1 and still get a good pass rusher in round 2 (Ryan Anderson, Carl Lawson, Tyus Bowser, Tarell Basham, Jordan Willis, and Derek Rivers)

Williams also as admitted to having drug issues in college. I doubt the Steelers FO want another Martavis Bryant scenario again.

Second thoughts

Second thoughts

With Round 1 almost over, does anyone have second thoughts and may have chosen differently? Who would you have chosen?

-fuck the Steelers and their bullshit fans...

feel pretty good about it all.

If I knew APac would trade his 12th overall for a half eaten Snickers and a can of Pepsi, I would have traded down.

#12 (Trubisky to the Jets) and #13 (Kizer to the Cardinals) seemed like reaches. How far down would you have gone and who would you have targeted with that and the 33nd pick?

IMO, KC had bigger needs - QB - Alex Smith is on his last year. OLB - Dee Ford is on the last year of his first contract and Tamba Hali is ready to retire.

I don't like taking a RB in Round 1, but I should have thought a little bit more about McCaffrey at #23.

I would have targeted a safety or a corner. Grabbed Watson if he was still there.

I highly disagree on need. They will re sign Alex and Dee Ford. To each their own though.

With the 30th pick in the 2017 NFL draft the Atlanta 28-3 Falcons select
159890_LW_UWvsASU_05-640x485.jpg

Kevin King CB Washington

Quietly Washington has been putting in some legit talent in the NFL. Their DB coach is one of the top DB coaches in the country and someone I hope BK would offer a million a year to coach the corners here because he's that flipping good at what he does. Coach Quinn loves big corners in his defense and the Falcons have a glaring need at that position. They just locked up Desmond Trufant who is one of the 5 best at his position in the NFL and one of the more underrated players in the NFL. Pairing Trufant with King would give the Falcons some real ball hawks and playmakers at this position. King looks like a long safety with his 6'3 frame but could be a long lock down corner for the next 8 years with Trufant. Kid can also run as he ran in the 4.4's at the combine. Kid is shooting up draft boards and will give the Falcons some much needed help on the outside. I love this pick for Atlanta and hence why I made it.

With the 25th pick in the 2017 IE NFL Mock Draft, the Houston Texans select Chidobe Awuzie CB Colorado. Calabrese's People will soon provide the profile, but this player was on top of his board prior to taking a few days off. Sherm Sticky and the Seattle Seahawks are now on the clock.

With the 26th pick in 2017 NFL Draft the Seattle Seahawks select Garett Bolles OT/OG from Utah.

Came down the Bolles and Kevin King of Washington. But the need on the oline out weighed drafting a corner.

Will have full writeup tomorrow.

Update will happen later today as well.

Let's see these write ups fellas!

Don't think Jets could turn down a great offer for #6. Jets could use a safety like hooker at #6 though if they choose to keep.

If I knew APac would trade his 12th overall for a half eaten Snickers and a can of Pepsi, I would have traded down.

The Saints are in desperate need of secondary help. Their passing defense gave up 273 yds per game (most in the NFL), 4380 yards in the season (most in the NFL). Defense surrendered 454 points in the season (most in the NFL), averaging 28.4 points per game (6th most in the NFL). Their opponents first down percentage was 39.5 (third highest in the NFL). Pro Football Forecast ranked them as the 29th best pass defense in the NFL. The defense had only 30 sacks on the season (6th worst in the NFL) which gave the opposing QBs time to pick apart the secondary. Injuries plagued the cornerbacks. Of the four Cornerbacks on the initial Saints fall roster, all missed varying amounts of time due to injury and eventually were placed on Injured Reserve and, cumulatively, played thirty games.

The Saints need an experienced island CB who has the potential for immediate starting, provides excellent cover, is athletic enough to play press and man, while versatile enough to play against slot receivers. The Saints play against such divisional WRs like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Kelvin Benjamin.

Having addressed the need for an Edge rusher with their first pick, which should improve their sack rate and pressures on the QB, the Saints turn to their need to improve their secondary and choose Tre'Davious White, CB from LSU.

TreDaviousWhite_2015_0.jpg

White is that experienced island corner, who has played right and left cornerback with slot reps. He started forty-seven of his forty-nine games with LSU, is comfortable in press and off coverage as well as man and zone. Some analysts say that he may be the most technically sound corner in this draft. PFF grades him as the second best CB in the draft after Lattimore. He can challenge for slot right away for the Saints or opposite Delvin Breaux as the other CB. White also will contribute as an experienced punt returner with three touchdowns in his career. The Saints could work out a deal for either Malcolm Butler or Richard Sherman as White refines his skills for the NFL. That may change this pick.

White was chosen to the first team SEC and first team All-American and was the best CB at the Senior Bowl.

On to Round 2.....The New York Jets are up?

With the 33rd pick of the 2017 IE Mock Draft the New York Jets select Obi Melifonwu, S, UConn (BOBBY D in the house)
AR-160809760.jpg&maxh=400&maxw=667

Obi is a combine freak. Has the size (6'4" 220) and speed for the size (4.53 40). Obi impressed the Jets brass with his performance at the Senior Bowl where he showed ability to play deep middle free safety as well as ability to cover WR's 1 on 1.

With his size he also can come down and play in the box.

Melifonwu totaled 118 tackles with three passes broken up and four interceptions in 2016. As a junior in 2015, he had 88 tackles with two interceptions and five passes broken up.

Safety was the biggest need for the Jets entering the draft and Obi provides position flexibility and the ability to step in and play significant minutes year 1.
