Interesting.

I agree Wooly. All the retweets are saying "not surprised" but I think there would be more to this interview than just being a smart guy. I think with ND kids there's a trend of confirming their passion for football. Therefore, I think this is sort of a big deal.

I'll pretty much root for any team where an ND guy lands, minus the Steelers.

Just can't do it.

Still bummed out that Tuitt is now a mortal enemy.

As a Steelers fan I hated Eifert going to Bengals and Stanley going to Ratbirds. So I get it.

NFL people are apparently very disappointed in this, because they were hoping to transition him to LB. It'd be hard to do that at 5'10 213 lbs. I heard that he was going to do LB drills too, idk if he's doing any for the DBs.

Peppers is a dynamic athlete with subpar stats for someone so phenomenally talented. He's a fantastic nickel prospect or possibly needs to go to the offensive side. His coverage skills were pretty good from the limited reps I saw his junior year so I'd think any team taking him would want him at the nickel or nickel/LB hybrid.

The big knock on him has been that his coverage wasn't good enough for a top flight S prospect, plus he played more in the box this past year (from everything I've been told, I don't watch Michigan games). So he went out for LB thinking he could transition to WLB in a 4-3 like Mark Barron or Deone Buchannon, though he doesn't have the functional strength or coverage skills of those guys either. He needs to kill the positional drills to save his stock, or accept that he will be drafted much lower than anticipated.

Thanks for the info, sounds like his value would be solely at nickel then no? I mean if he's too small for LB and not good enough at S then I don't know where else he goes unless it's on offense. Or perhaps he's not good enough in coverage to be a nickel?

Bingo. So the consensus I've seen is that his hips are too stiff. Could it be too much weight? Maybe, or maybe he just doesn't have the hips to play in coverage, which is necessary in today's NFL. He'll be on rosters for years, but if he's not with the right coaching or doesn't buy in, then he'll be gone. Unless he really plays his heart out on special teams.

Patrick Chung at the Combine was 5'11" 1/4, 212 lbs, and ran a 4.59. He went 43rd overall, but had worse film than Peppers.

Love Kizer and the Niners do need a mobile QB, but who can read the field and get the ball out quickly. But I think that drafting him at #2 for SF is a mistake.

It will be interesting to see what else is coming out of the combine as it relates to SF.

I think it all depends. I don't blame a team picking on major need in the first although I prefer the best player available approach), and if that is what the niners need, then get your guy. I agree that's high for him, but if you are picking him either way and can't find a trade partner, then you got to do what you got to do.

That would be a great margin slower than Cam and I believe Goff as well.

I think Cam was a 4.6 or 4.5 guy.

I like Kizer but I cannot see him going round 1.

Why would his 40 time affect where he's drafted?

Because he doesn't run a 4.5 forty? Most the quarterbacks in the league don't run that.

Goff also sucks.

Why would his 40 time affect where he's drafted?

Because all good 1st round QB's have 4.4/5 speed. See P. Manning, C. Palmer, E. Manning, P. Rivers, or B. Roethlisberger and many many other slow first round draft picks that have had success in the NFL.

2017 NFL Draft

Goff actually ran a 4.82, so Kizer is one step behind

The reason I bring this up is because the comparison he's brought up against is Cam.

Why does everyone want him to go in the 1st round so badly!?

I just personally don't see it.

I think he has much less potential than Quinn.

Don't be mad I'm just with Farrell. That's all. And yes Goff does suck. But he's faster than Kizer.

Goff is faster by .02. Jeez that's cutting hairs.

I'm still on team Goff. The Rams offense is hot garbage with every rookie qb ever. He needs a bit of time. Young guy. Dudes arm is lit.

Montana was a 4.7 something, which may have been relatively faster in his generation. But Tom Brady? He ran a 5.28 40-yard dash with a 24.5'' vertical leap!

I doubt Kizer even practiced the 40. I believe he was probably faster in high school, guessing he was mid-4.6's. Like Jarious Jackson. Of all Irish QB's since 2000!

2017 DeShone Kizer QB 77in., 230lbs 9 7/8 4.89 Rating 5.88
2010 Round 2 Jimmy Clausen QB 74in., 222lbs., 9.000 30.750 23 Wonderlic DNP DNP DNP DNP DNP DNP n/a
2007 Round 1 Brady Quinn QB 75in., 232lbs., 29 Wonderlic DNP 24 reps X 225! DNP DNP DNP DNP n/a
2000 Round 7 Jarious Jackson QB 73in., 226lbs., 18 Wonderlic 4.68 DNP DNP 109 DNP DNP n/a

Vince Young? 4.58.

Am thinking Steve Young and Cam the only legitimate, top NFL QB's with sub 4.5 speed? Don't know if it helped or if the relied much on it when they got in the league, except to save their own lives.
