O'Malley's comment on Montelus: "John Montelus is officially listed as a DL -- 310 pounds, down from 320 last year and 345 previously"

Our offense is going to be a nightmare for the opposition.

Our defense is going to be a nightmare for our defense.

Well it looks like Morgan is going to be given every opportunity to prove himself. Several rumored changes in fact happening. We've got speed.

Sounds like BK might do a little two QB at times, but not a 50/50 or 60/40 type split. Given results from last year, I really don't see Wimbush unseating DK, but if he happens to bypass DK & MZ I wonder how both will handle it?

Spring practice and this board is getting giggly again.

Said it before, I'll say it again. Brandon Wimbush is a stud and it's going to be hard to bench him...

Think of it as building the offensive confidence during practices. Find the Morgan "Joe not in front of him" interesting. Can't compete or what? Are they afraid to put someone behind him? Makes me think they NEED someone else prepped for that position.

wow are JO and Morgan the only plausible starters getting reps at LB during spring? good for future development i suppose, bad for current.

I am assuming this is leaving out players already involved via EE. I hope so at least.

impressive numbers. now we have to see if he can translate it to the field. we could use another speedster to take the top off.

Hunter faster than expected. Needing/expecting him to play awesome this season.
Interested in how they get Sanders involved in the offense this year.
ESB with a 4.5 flat?!?! Ready to see him be amazing instead of hearing about him be amazing.
Stepherson with a nice time, expect that to keep getting lower with his body gaining strength. I still think he is going to way out perform his rankings.
Boykin with an above average TE time (see below) but not the greatest for WR. Do we know if this move is something staff has discussed?

As I said, I think this is a pre-excuse for when Nyles kicks everybody's ass this fall. And that is the end of it.

I hope you're right. I think Morgan, Coney and Martini will bring a combined speed to the LB's that we haven't seen before.

As of today, those are my 3 horses. We'll have to see how the spring and fall plays out.

was there any other mention of Barajas? Thats damn athletic for a dude 240. His progression could really help our LB core

BK didn't really expand on it but driskell has been saying that his sources have been telling him that both have been two of the more impressive DL during winter conditioning.

Blankenship is up to 278. I've been high on both since they signed. This is only their Junior year so why can't they breakout in their 3rd season. Happens to a lot of prospects.

I really liked Blankenship coming out of HS. Those two alone could do wonders for our DL depth and production if Driskells reports are true.

I've never been anywhere close to high on Blankenship personally. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see him being s productive player. Said that in his thread when he signed.

Does anyone think Kelly is actually giving Brandon a shot at QB? Or is this just him trying to spark some energy for Wimbush?

It would be absolutely nuts if he leaped Malik and Deshone. That log jam...

If you've payed any attention at all to Kelly's history here, you will know he's talking out his ass. Also Kelly speakin on tackling even less then NCAA recommends, so shocking who'd have guessed with all the great tackling going on. Sigh

I really like the position changes that BK made. I also like Big Mike not moving to LT (as of now). I think he should stay as the RT moving forward.

I'll say it now and I promise to stick to my guns but the defense will be dominate this season. A much better group overall (Assuming no freak injuries.)

Dominant defense? You're certainly optimistic, I'm hoping for "solid".

We're going to be playing a lot of guys with little experience. I'm definitely a little worried.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/02/s...moves-to-eliminate-tackling-at-practices.html

The Ivy League has been looking into limiting full contact from practices for a while now and just recently took the big step of completely eliminating it. Aside from reducing the amount of injuries sustained in practice drastically, some of the coaches believe it has actually made their players better.

Mr. Teevens said that contrary to some fears, his players have become better tacklers.

Players still tackle from 500 to 800 times a year, but instead of launching themselves at other players in practice, they focus on how they tackle to avoid head collisions. The number of missed tackles in games has fallen by more than half, he said.

“It hasn’t hurt our level of play,” he said. “It’s actually made us a better team.”

There is zero chance. This is just coach speak. You want him working out hard, staking his claim for the job in '17 and beyond but that's it. It wouldn't be shocking if he doesn't ever beat out MZ and DK or would it? It's certainly possible he might not get the team until his GS year in '19. Now, DK could go to the NFL after the '17 season giving the job to BW for '18 & '19 (or just '18 if he himself can go to the League) What i would watch out for is if he graduates in '17 and has an option for 2 years at another school on a grad transfer. If he thinks he would have to sit until his GS year he might think that being the man at a P5 while getting his MBA from schools like Darden, Fuqua, Kellogg or Haas would be a wiser move. Him getting that internship with KPMG proves that he's on a well thought out path.
