I wouldn't classify it as a major issue in the race. Anyone who feels strongly one way or the other is already voting party lines. Most so-called "moderates" probably don't care either way.

It's getting a lot of press so it's inevitably going to be a talking point. It's going to be asked about in debates and the media will continue to talk about it. I guess that's what I meant by major issue.

SIAP Transgender rights: Where 2016 candidates stand on bathroom bills

When this is a major issue in our presidential election, you know we have problems.

Here's a relevant snippet from an interview by Reason of Camille Paglia:

There [comes] a time when these fine gradations of gender identity—I'm a male trans doing this, etc.—this is a symbol of decadence, I'm sorry. Sexual Personae talks about this: That was in fact the inspiration for it, was that my overview of history and my noticing that in late phases, you all of a sudden get a proliferation of homosexuality, of sadomasochism, or gendered games, impersonations and masks, and so on. I think we're in a really kind of late phase of culture.

reason: So that the proliferation of cultural identities, the proliferation of all sorts of possibilities is actually a sign that we're...

Paglia: On the verge of collapse? Yes! Western culture is in decline. There's absolutely no doubt about it, in my view, looking at the history of Egypt, of Babylon, of Byzantium, and so on. And so what's happening is everyone's so busy-busy-busy with themselves, with this narcissistic sense of who they are in terms of sexual orientation or gender, and this intense gender consciousness, woman consciousness at the same time, and meanwhile...

reason: Is that also racial or ethnic consciousness as well?

Paglia: Right now, to me, the real obsessions have to do with gender orientation. Although I think there's been this flare-up [regarding race]. I voted for Obama, but I've been disappointed. I think we had hoped that he would inaugurate a period of racial harmony, and I think the situation has actually become even worse over recent years. It seems to be overt inflammatory actions by the administration to pit the races against each other, so I think there's a lot of damage that needs to be healed.

But I think most of the problems as I perceive them in my students and so on, is that there's this new obsession with where you are on this wide gender spectrum. That view of gender seems to me to be unrealistic because it's so divorced from any biological referent. I do believe in biology, and I say in the first paragraph of Sexual Personae that sexuality is an intricate intersection of nature and culture. But what's happened now is that the way the universities are teaching, it's nothing but culture, and nothing's from biology. It's madness! It's a form of madness, because women who want to marry and have children are going to have to encounter their own hormonal realities at a certain point.

reason: Do you see your personal liberation as having helped to grease the skids for decadence, for the collapse of Western civilization?

Paglia: I have, yes.

reason: Do you feel at all ambivalent about that?

Paglia: I've defined myself as a decadent. One of my first influences was Oscar Wilde. I stumbled on a little book called The Epigrams of Oscar Wilde in a secondhand bookstore in Syracuse, New York, when I was like 14, and I was fascinated by his statements. So I am a Wildean, and he identifies himself as a kind of decadent in that period of aestheticism.

reason: And certainly he was toward the end of the great hegemony of England as a world power, at least in a cultural sense.

Paglia: Yes, that's true too, the decline of an empire. Absolutely.

Does this Paglia know the end of Wilde's life?

Trump just suggested Bernie run as an independent. I'm sure he would love that.

I literally don't understand what Trump is saying most of the time and I think I'm a fairly intelligent person.

What's so hard to understand? He uses the best words, he uses yuge beautiful words.

Low key though I love that he actually has the stones to stand up there and take questions cold from the press. Hillary hasn't had a press conference and taken questions in something absurd, like 80+ days.

I must say he is doing a lot better in this Q&A session than he was in the speech portion of the night.

55.4% to 42.9

Bernie took all but 3 towns in RI. In those 3 towns Hillary won Pawtucket by 21 votes, East Greenwich by 27 votes, and Barrington by 92 votes otherwise Bernie had a sweep.

for Clinton with 87% reported she's got about a 7,500 vote lead. Late returns from Bridgeport and Stamford pushed her past Sanders.

Poor Bern...he really had a nice run. I was rooting for him. Now I need to go back to hating him, albeit a little less for opposing ...IT.

MSNBC's Steve Kornacki reports on the results of Tuesday's primaries. Donald Trump swept five Northeastern states, clearing 110 delegates.

Surprises: Cruz failed to crack 10% in a Rhode Island district, the minimum to get any delegates from the proportional system.

Below: Kornacki analyzes the unbound delegate count in Pennsylvania, where Trump has seated another 33 supporters:

Bernie will now be in full mode plan B. Plan A was obviously to win, but if he can't win, his new plan is to keep pushing his grass roots, progressive movement. HRC embodies everything he's fought against. I don't think he's going to just step aside (eventhough he can't win the nomination). Clinton Won Big Tuesday Night. But Sanders Has Won Something Too.

Of course Trump would love Bernie to run as an IND. HRC wouldn't stand a chance at that point and you'd have Ralph Nader all over again. With that said, if Trump gets screwed out of the GOP nomination and he decides to run as an IND, then I absolutely think Bernie should too. A four-person race for POTUS in the general would be amazing.

If by pure gold you mean you want the house to pick the president, then yes pure gold.

I mean pure gold by
1) it would further the publics education about how F'd up the political establishment truly is. Frankly anything that stimulates Americans to learn more about all things government is a good thing, right?
2) of course the entertainment value
3) along with 1, it diminishes the power of both parties and sends a clear message that Americans are fed up with the status quo.

In short, our candidates are crap, and America is divided. If you believe at least one of those statements is true, why do we deserve a "neat and clean" election that puts us right back into the status quo.
