How many WRs are they taking this class? Who's at the top of the board with legit interest in ND? Amir Mitchell and Javon McKinley?

RICO DOWDLE

RICO DOWDLE

"It was good," Dowdle said. "I liked the campus, the coaches, the environment and all of the people there. I think they offered, they would be very high [on my list] of schools."

"I think we should know something here in the next couple of weeks," Dowdle's high school coach Shane Laws said. "We were really impressed with all of the people that he met there. I'm not sure what will happen, but I just know that they have a lot of interest in Rico, and that they are still evaluating him with the numbers that they have." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1777646#sthash.gnXB7bKA.dpuf

I know many have complained about the lack of 4 star and 5 star talent with '16 verbal commits (to date). For those in the know, is it due to:

a) the verbals are under rated and after camp season they'll explode upward?

b) the frozen five situation which is pushing away talented kids due to the stringent academics/rules?

c) ND picking up low-hanging fruit and the stars players will come later?

d) other reasons?

On point a.) it's been a long discussed topic in cfb that ND recruits get trended up after after giving verbal to ND... I've heard this discussed many times by many different 'experts' over the years... is there data on this and if there is any truth to that notion at all then why would any of us care if a three star commit moves up to a four???

I have noticed this as well. However, some truly are deserving of moving up to a 4* or 5* after performances at the summer camps. For 2016, I am hoping for more 4*'s than 3*'s in the end. I am not about quantity, we have good depth finally, I want quality.

• Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy Top247 2016 defensive end Daniel Joseph could be a force on the next level as he had strength. He has the athleticism college coaches are looking for and his film is good. Michigan and Penn State are the top two but an offer from Notre Dame could change that. Joseph will be at Irish Invasion on Friday.

So, we're at 85 scholarship players and have, at minimum, fifteen scholarships to give. We have ten verbal commitments.

Attrition - medical, transfer, early entrants - could bring us to twenty for this class?

How would you fill out the rest of the class?

Here's Eric's take prior to the Irish Invasion:

Whats the magic number for scholarships this class?

With no transfers, medical hardships, or early entries to NFL.... 17. (Assuming Prosise, Jarron Jones, and Daly are the only graduate students who come back)

However, we always have attrition following a season, so safe bet would be to take maybe 20.

You have to think At the very least Stanley and Jaylon will leave early. Possibilities of Max, Folston, Jones and Fuller could leave early also.

A little off topic but I am interested in people's views. I never consider a player leaving early if he has been on the team for four years...even if he redshirted one year. Although he could stay an extra year and play, he was here for four years which is what he committed to when he signed. Jaylon leaving after three years is definitely leaving early. What are others thoughts? Do most consider leaving with a year of eligibility left as "leaving early"?

For me, it depends on who the player is. Ronnie Stanley can't benefit much from a 5th year (assuming he doesn't get hurt this year, *knocks on wood*). He will already have his degree and he is a top 5 pick. Staying for a 5h year wouldn't make much sense to me.

If the player can benefit a lot from a 5th year then I think he should stay. But there are some players where it wouldn't make any sense to stay

I think it's useful for conversations within the context of Note Dame football to use the term "leaving early" to mean leaving with eligibility on the table, simply because we approach things from an athletics perspective. That said, I'm thrilled to see guys go get paid as long as they have their degree in hand.

Like everyone else on this board I'd like to see Jaylon stay for as long as he's eligible. But ,thanks to Jaylon, linebacker recruiting was pretty good for 2014 and 2015. With Morgan, Barajas, Bilal, Coney, and others the cupboard won't be bare should Jaylon decide to leave after this season.

He's the type of player I'd like to see return to Notre Dame after his playing days are over. Like Lyght and Denson, he gets Notre Dame. His future success in the NFL and his Notre Dame experience make him an asset that is hard to find.

Sorry if its been posted already, but apparently ND has been keeping in touch quite frequently with Nick Starkel(OKstate QB commit) and Shane Buechele(Texas Qb commit)

It is sort of weird that since he's committed to OK State the only crystal balls he's received have been to ND.
