Wiltfong thinks that OSU has now taken the lead for Hausmann since we got Alize Jones. They have always led for Austin Mack and therefore quickly became the leader once they offered Robertson. They've also emerged as the team to beat for Eichenberg.

Per TJ, some tight ends to keep an eye on are Luke Farrell and Devin Asiasi

Per Anna at Scout, ND is moving back the Junior Day scheduled for this weekend because of the conflict with the Super Bowl. Going to reschedule.

Loy was asked what 2016 DE's we have the best early shot with. He named Josh King, Kyree Cambell, and Patrick Bethel. Apparently someone inside the Gug told him that Bethel won't be going to Miami.

And they just realized this? What are the odds this isn't a cover for the weather? Feel bad for everyone who made travel plans.

All those that were coming were from the Midwest, and apparently it was the kids who asked to leave early Sunday to get back for it. ND decided to just do it a different weekend so they can have the kids experience a full visit.

Offered FL DB Craig Watts the other day. Per scout Notre Dame, Indiana, and, UNC are recruiting him the hardest. Also Loy put in a CB for ND for him the other day lol.

So by the time summer comes, will Loy assume we are taking 50 players this year?

Bump

Never to early to look ahead!

I like seeing a bunch of 5 stars on the early list. Then again, don't we always start out that way?

What are our positional needs/target #s for 2016?

As of right now, our scholarship numbers are:

Irish Mob (2013) - 22
Golden Army (2014) - 23 (includes MVG)
Shamrock Solders (2015) - 24
Total = 69

Available Spots = 16 or 17 (if you don't think MVG stays on scholarship)

There are only seven 5Y options in 2016 (i.e. 2011 recruiting class): CJ Prosise, Mark Harrell, Jarron Jones, John Turner, KVR, Nicky Baratti, Scott Daly.

Of those seven, I think three are likely to return: Prosise, Jones and Daly. KVR will declare for NFL. There's obviously a ton of time (one year) before these decisions need to be made, and cases can be made for others, but numbers will be extremely tight in 2016.

There's also the possibility of Irish Mob members declaring early for the NFL Draft (e.g. Jaylon, Cole Luke).

So, let's say 17 spots - three 5Y = 14 available scholarships for 2016 class.

We would need a rash of injuries, transfers and early NFL entrees for this class to approach 20 members. It probably will, but until those things happen, and ND continues to not over-sign, the number the staff is working with has to be in the 14-17 range, right? What are the priorities in 2016?

A lot can happen between now and next signing day, as it pertains to transfers, NFL departures, and medicals. Generally, we lose about 2-3 players an off-season. So, assuming 16 is the count right now, and with a few losses, let's say it'll be 20 available. Now, I can see the three 5th years you mentioned coming back in Prosise, Daly and Jarron Jones, assuming he bypasses NFL assuming he has an awesome season. (too many assumptions lol)

So, that'll put the number to 17.

Need wise:

QB: Don't really need one, but it's good to take one every class. This is Golson's last year, and going with 3 scholarship QBs, is fine or somewhat a risk, depending on who you ask. For all extensive purposes, let's say that we'll take one. (1)

RB: We have four, adding one more gives us a solid # (1)

WR: We're losing Brown and Carlisle. Depending on Fuller's season, he could be NFL bound. We have 12 currently, and that's a little rich too begin with. However, I think adding two receivers won't upset the balance. (2)

TE: We have 5, which is perfect. We can pass on one year next year. Especially since our top target, Hausmann, committed to Ohio State last week.

OL: We'll lose four players. Martin & Hegarty are out of eligibility. Harrell I don't see coming back (too early to assume, who knows, he may have a Mike Golic senior season), and Stanley, unless he craps the bed on the field, won't return for another year. Meaning, we'll have 11 scholarship OL. Kelly always talks about depth up front on the OL, and having 15 bodies there is perfect. (It's what we had there this past season) So let's say 4. Two OT's and 2 OG/Cs. (4)

DE: Okwara is out of eligibility. But I don't see it as a big need as it may appear to be. Bo Wallace will most likely grow into that Weakside role, and we'll still have Rochell, Trumbetti, Blankenship, Jhonny Williams, and Jay Hayes. 6 bodies is decent, but adding two more will be wise. (2)

DT: Lose Sheldon and possibly Jarron Jones. We have quite the amount of depth. Matuska, Bonner, Mokwuah, Cage, Tillery, Tiassum, Dew-Treadway and Taylor; 8 guys. I think we should go big or go home. Target the top guys and if you can't get one of them pass on DT. (1)

LB: There's the potential of losing Jaylon. Schmidt & Grace will be gone. John Turner is out of eligibility and I don't currently see a 5th year for him; so meaning we'll could potentially lose 4 LBs. Now, at LB we have plenty of depth. But, if you lose 4, it's best to replace a few. (2)

CB: Russell is back! But, maybe for one year, depending if he goes beast mode or not. Luke really emerged as a sophomore, had his ups and downs a few games, but overall, if he can be consistent he could jump to NFL, but for now, let's say he stays. Farley at Nickel will be out of eligibility, so two guys are gone. We brought in three this year, but we should add at least one. (1)

S: Shumate done. Barring an All-American type season from Redfield, I don't see him bolting to NFL. Baratti has a 5th year, but with all the injuries he's had, who knows if he can stay healthy (tough break, too.) We'll have just Drue Tranquill, Mykelti Williams and Nicco Fertitta. Only 4 scholarship returners. 6 is a comfortable number, but 7 would be ideal. (3)

However, a lot can change with the scholarship numbers and of course, the personnel on the team in the next year. But, for now, this is how I can see the 2016 class playing out.

Good breakdown, Mr. Archer.

I think the number next year will be around 22. The numbers I'd adjust up are corner (I believe we'll target at least 2), DL (I think we target an additional guy to the 3 you listed), longsnapper, OT, and an ATH.

Copied from Canada-my take for the '16 class minimums. Probably very similar but trying to pump up my post count.

QB: Take only the gifted. At best 1.

RB: After 2014 misses, I believe taking 2 is prudent. The way TF is going and with possible injuries in a high contact position.

WR: Position of wealth with current #'s. I believe taking a slot is needed. Overall, take 2 and look for the truly elite.

TE: Only take the best. Maybe 1.

OL: After a smaller '15 class and with losses, it's time to reload to maintain the depth. Take 4-5.

DE: I think the depth is young and good. However, after striking out in years past for elite players the staff should look at adding 2. 1 for need and 1 elite.

DT: With Day being out of eligibility, time to add 1. Make it 2. You can never have enough bigs in the middle.

LB: Good haul for '15, but I would again look to add 3 for depth-at least.

CB: A team can never have enough CB's. Taking 2 every year is a nice concept (harder to make a reality though).

S: After striking out for depth in the '15 class, it's time to reload with 3 more players.

In Tim O'Malley's recent article, Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football, Basketball, and Recruiting Front Page, he mentions that Kelly has "lost *21 players between the beginning of spring practice and conclusion of August camp to either transfer, dismissal, suspension, or medical scholarship alleviation." In five years, he's averaging about four losses an off-season, and we all know a ND off-season is not without it's fair share of "ESPN Drama"

Offered CA TE Devin Asiasi. USC and Michigan appear to be the leaders right now
