Big man recruiting is one of the few areas that Brey does not do well...

The requirements of the offensive system eliminates a lot of guys right off the bat. I don't think that's ever going to change but it can still work so long as ND can be athletic at forward - which isn't always the case.

Almost wouldn't mind a 8/9 seed - don't think we can string that many good games together so might as well take one good shot at a #1. Nova rematch would be fun.

Another frustrating outing - team has lost confidence big time. Ryan didn't even get on the floor if I am not mistaken. Absolutely getting destroyed on the glass and post defense.

I'd like to see us a #12 seed so we can have one of the annual 12-5 upsets.

For as much praise as we give Brey, he needs to own up to how bad he's screwed up the line-up these last few games, with the culmination being today. You "downshift" against a team with 2 7' footers to start? Some of these line-ups, given game conditions, are just nonsensical to me.

We play perimeter defense well. We don't have to always score 80 to win this year. Quit giving up 20 second chances.

I think he's bought way to far into this concept.

7 blocked shots so far tonight by ND. Irish on an 11-2 run to take the lead.

Geben gets blocked on layups more than anyone I've seen in a while. Go up and hammer it home, big guy.

Not going to win if Crawford hits shots like that in the second half. ND defense is not great.

That was a tough shot at the end, so no fault there. We can put 3 guys on the court that can defend (Rex, TJ, and Steve). Bonzie and Farrell go hard, but give up size and athleticism. VJ is just so bad defensively, and when you're playing small, and your tallest, most athletic guy refuses to participate on the boards (he has zero, I think he had 1 against UNC), then that's a huge issue.

Farrell gets cute again with a pass and air mails it into the 3rd row.

So how mad were you after that, they get a bucket, and we go down nine.

We then hit back to back 3's to cut it to 3.

It's not even game to game with these guys. My emotional swings per 4 minute increment is going to lead me to a breakdown.

F@#$ VJ. Why does he continue to get a pass? He didn't even attempt to box out. And-1 opportunity.

Love the adjustment (not sure if it's by design or was just out of the secondary break those last few possessions) to get Bonzie out of the screen game. Now that he's hit a few jumpers, Collins can't just sag off him.

It happens every game. They turn the ball over once and the next thing you know the opposition puts together a 9-0 run and ND is in a hole.

Good win to stop the bleeding. Shooting 48% from 3 point range, hitting FTs and only 7 TOs will usually get it done. Bonzie with a huge 27 and 16 plus 5 blocked shots.

Colson is so good. Just the fact that he can put up 27 like that vs a team who has 3 7'0ers is unreal. The guy can play.

Edit: not to mention the rebounds he had. 16? I think it was..?

Yeah, he's been a beast all year...both scoring and cleaning up on the boards. I assume he'll be back next year, but has anyone seen his name pop up in any mock drafts? Can't imagine he'd be a first rounder being so undersized for his game...but he's been dominant all year playing against excellent competition, so you never know. Just curious as I haven't really seen this debated anywhere yet.

I am not any more/less concerned after that game last night.

The positives:
- SV hit some shots down the stretch that he had been missing for the last few weeks. That was refreshing and I am happy for him.
- Starting Rex gives us an extra shot in the arm defensively and he was a big reason why ND didn't fall behind more in the first four minutes of the 2nd half.
- Bonzie played very, very well

The negatives:
- Brey has seemed to double down on going small and chucking 3's. Last night, ND shot 3's 46% of the time and that number is over 43% for the last 3 games. It worked last night to get a win, but ND shot 48% and came away with a 7 point win. Yikes.
- Wake Forest attempted eleven more shots than ND, despite having 2 more TO's. Based on WF's averages for the game, that was worth 10 points. If ND shoots 40% from 3 for the game, we might be talking about another loss.
- If you take away the 6 FT attempts in the last 50 seconds of the game (garbage FT's), ND had 15 FT attempts on 59 FG attempts. That is what relying on the 3 pointer will do to you. If that is the recipe for the rest of the year, ND would be in the bottom 5 teams of FT attempts per FG attempt.

Overall it was good to get a little positive feeling back. That said, I do not see a way ND beats either Lville or FSU without shooting ~50% from 3pt range if they play the style they did tonight. I would love the see more of Gibbs and his attacking style on offense and I would love to see Rex drive to score, instead of driving to dish. Nobody is playing help on him anymore since they know he is kicking it out.

One last note - I know this still could be another fun March ride, but I get the feeling that this will be the worst ND team in a five year cycle (last two years, this year, next two years). The future is very bright.

Anyone headed to NC State next week? I got some tickets 11 rows behind the ND bench for my birthday. Just bought a green Onions jersey for the event (and also life).

University of no defense. And no rebounding.

It amazes me that WF can get a tall guy like Collins who is athletic for his height and we can't get a player like that to save our lives(except for Auguste but he was only good the last 2 years). I think one of these years we will get a good center. It's only a matter of time right?...

First half was very ugly for us but the second half was very efficient offensively. I think Gibbs is starting to surpass Farrell as a better PG. Gibbs is awesome at getting to the basket. Farrell seems to drive then either passes it out(which works most of the time) or he ends up just throwing a horrible pass. Too many turnovers by our PG is not good.

Hats off to bonzie. If he wants to play like that the rest of year then I won't be mad that's for sure

This is really the first year in a long time when Brey didn't have a guy underneath that could battle for the tough boards with some size.

We have had Zach, Sherman, Cooley, Nash, Luke etc. The best teams ND has had under Brey have had an extremely athletic big man that can play the screen game. Nobody is going to mistaken ND for UNC, but that doesn't mean ND can't compete. This year has been worse than normal, but with Burns and Mooney coming into play next year, I don't foresee this being as bad next year.

Sherman was not that good. I think this year we were all just banking on geben being that guy that could make the jump like Cooley and Nash did. Not gonna happen. I was really hoping burns and Mooney would be seeing more time. Maybe they will start getting more playing time. Brey did say he wanted to get Mooney into the ga,e more but he obviously hasn't done that
