I don't get why Clemson is still behind MSU. They would destroy them.

Coaches poll is the biggest crock of shit. Some assistant for the coach completes a worksheet based on W/L of the day and it gets compiled. There is rarely any change in the polls unless a team actually loses.

Man i think we shouldve jumped Stanford. If Temple had played the game under the name "Ole Miss" we would be ranked 7/8

I am not so worried about it. In fact it is better for us I think, so that when we beat them it will work out. It would be nice to have one less spot to climb though.

Just happy Temple didn't drop out of AP. Wish Pitt would have won and stayed..

Things that would be nice next week...

@KSU to give Baylor some trouble
Temple to smack @SMU around
ND to handle @Pitt
@IU to give Iowa trouble
Stanford to blast @CO
@Clemson to handle FSU
TCU to falter @OKS. Either outcome helps us, both will have other big games coming up
MSU to struggle at Nebraska
Navy to win @Memphis
Utah to struggle or lose at WA
LSU to win @Bama

Glad that Temple stayed in the top 25. Hopefully they can go undefeated. It would help us a lot and I'm going to be rooting for them just because I respect the heck out of the effort they gave last night.

So from what I've gathered from looking at the polls:

-Need Clemson to win out or lose 2 games.
-Need AAC to give everyone in the conference at least 1 loss.
-Need LSU to win out? (BTW How the heck is Bama #7 with their resume thus far?)
-Need Big12 to beat each other up. I think OK st. could be the season spoiler for TCU/Baylor. If they win out though, that could hurt us. (At least I have them bet in vegas. I bet them in July to win it all at 1:48 odds. I usually take 5-6 underdogs at high odds for the fun. Had Miss st. last year at 1:175! lol.)
-Need to win out and beat stanford. A 14+ win against Pitt or Stanford would be huge.

As much as I hate SC, i think they are a lot better than people think. It's good to see them getting votes (to boost our SOS, Quality wins). If they get matched up against a team like Miami or a 8-4, 7-5 middle of the road team in a bowl game they will win big. Also, how is Navy not ranked? Their only loss is to ND, one of the best offenses in the country... I hope they beat Memphis/Temple and win that conference.

Well I think having our next road game be more a more low key kickoff time at noon (or 9 AM for me) will help out a lot. Virgina was an afternoon kick and our first road game, we also lost our starter, and Clemson is perhaps (should be) the #1 team in the country, and Temple was a GameDay game. Having the primetime kick off with GameDay in the house gave that Temple game a lot of hype and made that game massive and jacked their players up.

Having a more hohum kickoff time might help our guys relax. We're also playing our 4th road game so hopefully that experience will become normalized for the team and we look a bit sharper.

My opinion is only that, but "logic says" that we want every team ahead of us to lose --- simple. Clemson winning out simply means that there's one less seat at the card table. We win all the rest of ours; and look like the team [or one of four of them] with the most "forgivable" loss, and that's when we have a shot.

The Clemson needs to win out scenario isnt what we should be rooting for. If they lose and we win out, the Irish get in period.

If they're 12-1 win a conference title game win, and the head to head tie breaker and we are 11-1,... We get in over them, period,... That's what you're sayin?

If a 12-1 Clemson got left out for 11-1 ND, that would honestly be a travesty. They earned their spot over us on the field, where it should matter the most. The only scenario where this might make a little sense is if they dump a game to a REALLY shitty team (looking at you South Carolina).

Truth...

although a late loss by a top 4 team hurts more in the polls...I don't know how the committee deals with that.

Nope. Not unless they get pummeled by a bad team or Stanford is ranked #1 or #2 when we play them. Even then I'm not sure.

So we want EG to pull out a close one vs. Clemson? Would there be a chance FSU gets in over ND?

FSU could technically still get in, even though they're pretty far down right now. I want to say someone said tOSU was ranked in the mid teens around this time last year and they shot up the polls late as people lost and the Buckeyes provided those big wins. FSU would take the ACC's spot if they won out and clobbered Clemson.

I feel less confidant that Clemson can beat FSU after seeing them struggle last week with NC State, but if they "man up" like they did with us then they should have a fairly clear shot to the playoff after this week since their remaining hurdles would be gone and no one in the Coastal division will seriously challenge them. I still think it's in our best interest for Clemson to win out, because I don't see them losing any games after Florida State. They certainly get in over us with just 1 loss because of our head to head matchup, and the fact they'll likely have a conference championship win.

For those reasons, I think our best shot to get in still lies with beating a likely conference champion in Stanford to take the PAC-12 spot, and beating out hopefully the Big 12 champion (If they have 1 loss) on schedule.

On a completely unrelated note, I'll take Navy (+8) and the points over Memphis.

IF Memphis falls behind, maybe, but I doubt they can keep up with Memphis and considering how quickly the Tigers can score TDs, TOP will not be as paramount for them against Navy.

Memphis will have a harder time against Temple and/or Houston.

New dream scenario, Golson retakes the starting job and FSU pummels GATAs in the last game of the regular season. Florida goes on to curb stomp Alabama in the SECCG, neither Florida nor FSU not Bama make the playoffs, people call for Jimbo's job for not playing Golson against Clemson. Playoff 4 is a Big X rep, big XII, ACC, and here come the Irish.

This is all hinged on a team that scored 9 points against Vandy during their Homecoming, and Golson. I don't like those odds.

ORVs Pitt (last)

ND got jumped by OKS who moved up slots to #5.

Yeah it was likely that OSU jumps ND in some polls

What's amazing is how accurate the BCS rankings were in terms of ND. It was basically a week ahead of the traditional polls. Ppl were miffed how high ND was but this week but the Committee right about putting ND ahead of TCU, MSU and other unbeatens. It will be interesting to see if the BCS jumps OSU or Baylor past ND. It's inevitable that a Big 12 team jumps ND the next couple weeks when ND plays bad teams but ND had a strong showing versus a not-bad Pitt
