Echoing what others have said already, Bryant and Fuller are looking real good.

Greg getting his block on as well at 2:27, something the coaches really wanted him to work on last season.

The way you saw those videos; first you would see a rep from scrimmage, then you would see a one on one drill rep. The ones where the defenders (Farley and Redfield got most abused were one on one drills.) In fact did you notice Cole Luke against Corey Robinson in what was undoubtedly a one on one drill? Corey threw him around like a rag doll! What happened when the video of the same two was taken from the scrimmage? Corey slipped, Cole stepped in front, and had a pick. Hell you couldn't even tell who threw that ball. Strong hint, whomever it was, shouldn't have!

You have to at least try to watch them in context.

If a defender has no idea what route a runner is running, because it isn't within the context of an actual play, how good are they going to do unless they impede them at the line. Oh yeah, they can't even disrupt them really, there are no pads yet!

At least Redfield got beat on a nice double-move by Koyack. Farley straight up got dusted and shit on. He's in line to take over the Gary Gray 3.0 spot since Kelly will probably want to start him opposite Keivarae.

There is no way Farley starts at the opposite corner over Cole Luke. Farley will be, at best, in on the nickel package.

I am impressed by Robinson's footwork and overall athleticism in those limited peeks. I hope those qualities translate into some good routes.

Good post. Biggest context for me is that it's about a minute and a half of an entire practice.

We get it:

Farley sucks.

Farley's flat on his ass again.

Yeah, kid might not start again for ND.

He still wears the Gold helmet and sacrifices for the team . . .

I'm all for constructive criticism, but the whining/ridiculing is embarrassing shit.

Totally agree. I've seen worse in other threads, but then again the mods may have cleaned this one already. I'd rather not see that one of our players sucks, I'd rather it just be constructive criticism or nothing else. These guys could have chosen to go to other schools, they chose to play for the Irish. They're doing something probably very few of us could have ever done ourselves. Show the respect.

Another highlight, another Redfield getting burn. At what point to people stop saying "it's just one highlight" and actually become concerned.
Who would expect a sophmore safety would be getting burned by a senior tight end?

All things being equal, Koyack has a heck of a lot more experience than Redfield does and that will definitely show up in one on ones. It really shouldn't go against Redfield that Koyack owned him on tha play, as Koyack did the same to a few starters for other teams last year.

I'm not going to state that Redfield is perfect and has nothing to improve on but to pick out that of all things from the clip is a little ridiculous.

Yes.

I like to look at it differently.

The kid struggled last year - oh yeah, he played the entire season with a bum shoulder.

He is changing positions for the upcoming season and this was his second practice at this new position. Second practice.

He did show a lot of promise in 2012 - hopefully he can heal and learn the new position and contribute in 2014.

Love seeing highlights.

Huermann looks a long ways from being a TE, built like a WR IMO.

Romeo! Kid looks huge, excited to see him a make a big leap this year.

Pachuco, Buster, Bluto and Peoria : my main men!

Nice to see you keep it on the positive end!

YEAH r2Glory is the only one that demonstrates the proper way to highlight the negative. It is good to criticize the medium, the presentation, and the commentators. After all they are all adults, getting paid or college credit, and supposedly at the top of their craft or at least competent professionally.

For those that love to dog the players, where would you rather them make their mistakes?

And what the fuck? Do you really think if someone digs a boat trench, the coaches wouldn't be all over it? Correcting it in a positive, enthusiastic and effort affirming manner?

Purple face is for game day; have you ever seen top end coaches such as these interact with players? (They get results, usually, and hardly ever go for the pound of flesh.)

Two good points, RDU. But it looked to me like Heuerman ran some good routes and has some ball skills, what did you think?

Also, do you think Romeo may have already mostly been there with a more crowded depth chart? I have always thought he was an insane freak of nature!

My incredibly unqualified opinion, yeah Heuerman looked good running routes. I just have serious doubts about blocking ability based solely on his build. As a pure receiver does he stand out? I dunno. Corey Robinson looks more like a TE than him at this point, IMO.

I'm thinking we are all going to wish Romeo had redshirted freshman year. I think he is still growing into his body, which is scary given he looks to have a tremendous combination of power, explosiveness and pure slobberknocking ability. What is he, 18 years old as a rising junior?

i dont think Heuerman will ever line up in-line, he's gonna be more a flex/h-back guy, i am not really concerned if he dosent gain much extra weight as long as he can get seperation and catch the ball and get some YAC.

Dublin, a chara,

Great article, great get, great paint. I don't understand it. In my book you are consistently one of the best posters on the site, therefore, incredibly undervalued. Go raibh maith agat!

Was there any truth to the speculation that Farley was playing with an injured shoulder last year? I've never seen anything on it.

My humble opinions after 90 seconds of practice footage:

  • Greg Bryant is going to explode on the scene. This might be the most complete backfield we've had in some time. With my very biased opinion, I hope we see a split like: 40% GB/40% T. Folston/20% McDaniel. You don't want to exhaust the horses and you don't want them increasing likelihood of injury but that split would allow them significant carries per game to get into the groove and also keep them rested through a difficult season.
  • William Fuller, barring any injuries, should have at least 6 TD catches this year. And I really don't know how you scheme to take away all of the weapons and account for the QB.
  • Farley is still learning but he shouldn't even be slated on the nickel right now. Maybe if we play some dime. With Riggs transferring in, Luke, Russell, Butler and Watkins (who is supposed to have very good training and athletic ability), it's hard for me to believe Farley can crack the starting group, even if we have 3-4 corners on the field at once. I hope he continues to get better because I really like Farley in his interviews. He's a team first guy, I'll keep my fingers crossed that he elevates his game.
  • Ishaq looks better, I hope that trajectory continues. I've been waiting for him to arrive, like every other ND fan. I'm starting to believe his senior year will force it out of him.
  • Corey Robinson, barring any injuries, should have double digit TDs and at least 800 yds receiving. Pair him with DD, or Fuller and whoever wins out at slot and you have a dynamic group of receivers. I'm really excited by what this offense is capable of.
  • Sheldon Day put the work on Christian Lombard
  • Chase Hounshell had a a nice spin move and he looks powerful, I hope he stays healthy
  • Amir Carlisle has so much to prove, I hope he can lock down his mental game because he has the tools
  • Romeo Okwara is looking ready to have a big year for us. We didn't see much linebacker action but our DEs in this new 4-3 should be fun to watch.
  • Rochelle looks like he's ready to contribute. He handily beat Colin McGovern on one highlight
  • Anthony Rabasa beating Ronnie Stanley and getting the touch sack on Golson is a very good sign. Rabasa is the forgotten man in my mind but I hope he can provide quality minutes this year. He just beat one of our best OL in a small practice video.

If all of this comes to fruition, they might us well give ND the crystal football now and save everyone else the headache LOL.

Fuller and Robinson are going to be an unreal 1-2 punch after DD is gone if Fuller sticks as an outside receiver.

Do you roll coverage to the monster or the burner? Pick your poison.
