Word. I always thought getting off topic was the best thing about forums. Thats where the real discussion comes out.

its a mod's just to clean up threads anyways, its up to us clowns to discuss stuff and get sidetracked :)

While the phrase, "for all intents and purposes" is often mistakingly said "for all intensive purposes", it's not necessarily an incorrect phrasing of words.

Let's break it down, shall we?

in·ten·sive
/inˈtensiv/
adjective
adjective: intensive1. concentrated on a single area or subject or into a short time; very thorough or vigorous.
"she undertook an intensive Arabic course"

pur·pose
/ˈpərpəs/
noun
noun: purpose; plural noun: purposes1. the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
"the purpose of the meeting is to appoint a trustee"
synonyms: motive, motivation, grounds, cause, occasion, reason, point, basis, justification More

So if one was speaking about a concentrated effort in creating something, then "for all intensive purposes" would technically not be incorrect.

Don't be a smartass when I'm trying to be a smartass.

Yeah, shame on the mods and some others for trying to keep the Spring Practice Thread about things pertaining to Spring Practice, on a ND message board / forum.

How dare they. Fight the man! Expand our free speech from the Leg Lounge.

I don't think Dub was referring to the mods being too aggressive, I think he was referring to the "how about that X kid" comments that have became cliche' on this board. If someone doesn't like the off-topic convo in a thread, then get it back on topic by posting something regarding the original topic, not just another off topic post wagging your finger at other posters.

You know... be part of the solution, not the problem. At least... that's what I assume he meant.

Ah gotcha. Yeah there are several cliched phrases that I wish we could retire from IE (looking at you 'he gone'). I guess I don't mind the 'how about that X kid', because it makes my life a little easier, but I can definitely see your point how it just adds to the muck.

Convos are always going to branch out and get off topic on a board like this with the personalities we have. I just try to rein them in when in specific recruiting or ND discussion threads. Other threads that are originally non-ND related, have at it.

Spot on man, I know the mods doing great work on here, I'm just ribbing those folks like you said. Its funny when people give out that they see bumped threads with no new info but then they go and bump the same threads with nothing new to add themselves :)

During your reign as a mod, you have been effective in reining in wayward conversations although sometimes raining on someone's parade in the process.

Rein on, your modness!

I would like to see a poll :

What is more important?

a) O-Line lineup

b) Rust-off-Golson

c) Running back depth chart

d) new defensive scheme

Or any others you think are important. "You know, a poll, like we is busy, votin' each others popularity on."

I would go with:

e) MLB/ILB rotation. Even with Tuitt and Nix gone, I think Day, Okwara, Ishaq, Jones and Springmann (and a few of the youngsters) will at the very least do a serviceable job regardless of scheme/strategy and thus will keep the door open for the linebackers to make plays. The question then is, "who will step up at inside backer positions? Who will most often take advantage of the opportunities that the d-line creates?"

That, IMO, is the most important question on the team. Golson will eventually knock the rust off, and we have three+ WRs that can be counted on. And if Bryant can push for PT alongside Cam and Folston, we know we have talent in the backfield. The o-line loses two greats, but there were already three guys waiting in the wings that turned in quality reps, so that unit should be fine.

That leaves the biggest questions at ILB, where we don't know if Moore can be consistent, whether or not Morgan can come in and be a factor quickly enough, if Grace will get healthy, or if Deeb and Randolph are ready for the spotlight.

I'm gonna say, the OL and the DL is going to be paramount..... everything starts up front, and from there to Golson, and the LB's, Jaylon, notwithstanding. Not that the LB spot will be a problem, but it has a ton of questions, and until Grace comes back from injury, they're gonna have questions.

Even if grace comes back 100% I still say we have major questions at ILB. He was a major liability in anything that wasn't a dive play IMO. I'm really hoping deeb/Randolph come to play in the spring. I wouldn't be surprised if deeb became a really good coverage lb. Don't honestly remember Randolph's film, just that he was a consensus 4 star.

Do not disagree with you whatsoever, which is why I said they've got a ton of questions, but, I felt Grace was playing at a much higher level when he got hurt than he was at the beginning of the season......Moore is a thumper, but until he applies himself to all facets of the game, he's gonna be a question mark as well. Randolph and Deeb are the variables, just am not quite sure what we have with the two of them until after the spring!!!!

I actually thought Grace was playing really well his last two games. Especially the ASU game before he got hurt.

I agree with the Deeb part. I really think he is gonna be fun to watch.

I also disagree as NDohio and OCIrish have. Grace was not a liability at ILB. While he was no Manti, he did a pretty good job and held his own before the injury. If anyone was a liability on anything but the dive, it's Carlo. Grace still has room to grow, but I expect he'll be starter in the fall if he comes back 100%. I'm not sure who will play beside him, probably Deeb/Randolph and maybe Morgan gets some reps or spells those guys (Maybe not till mid season).

if the spring game has taught me anything is that that those who light it up go on to have great seasons like tyler stockton and deoin walker

Ha, and CJ Prosise had the only offensive TD in last year's Spring game coming off a pass from Zaire. Of course, Big Lou had the 2 point conversion too, another breakout offensive player

If the spring game has taught me anything, it's that South Bend can be twice as cold in April than a late game in November.

This thread is a cacophony of well meaning fans trying to impress each other with mundane points. (Maybe oppress was the right word.)

There must be a perception that there must be one right answer. And that all of these questions need be asked.

Obviously, all the tape, reports on spring practice, reports beyond the media presentations, eye witness accounts, the spring game, all fit as observables.

And what did Kelly say? Spring like bowl prep is for learning, both for players and coaches.

This year is very interesting with all the position battles shaping up, and the fact that there are a number of players absent, or rusty. Golson needs to acclimate, but with Riggs not yet here, DD out for the spring, and several freshmen coming in that may need to or be able to contribute, what we see this spring may be markedly different than next fall.

And does anyone even believe we get a peak under the hood at BK's offense, or BVG's new defense? That would be a worthy topic of conversation.

Crackin' me up Bogs.

I will update IE with presser info as normal but do we want a separate thread for the presser or just under this???
